Display: This screen displays all the informat ion needed to operat e your phone. 2. Navigation keys: In Menu mode, the navigatio n keys work as directional keys to scroll through me nus and lists.

Y our Phone 8 Display Display Layout The internal display has three ma in areas: Area Description Icons Displays various icons that indicat e phone status. T ext and graphics area Displays messages, menus, inst ructions and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialing.
Y our Phone 9 Icons Shows the received signal strength. The more bars, the stronger the signa l. Appears when there i s no network coverage available. Appears when the p hone is accessin g services on an Edg e network. When data is being transferred , this icon animates.
Y our Phone 10 Appears when a push me ssage has been rec eived from the WAP server . Appears after a memory c ard is inserted. Appears when Bluetooth wireless tec hnology is active. When transferring data, thi s icon blinks. Appears when the phone’s profile is set to Silent .
Y our Phone 11 Multitasking M enu The Multitasking k ey on the right side of th e handset opens a n application-switch window tha t allows you to selec t from a group of commonly used ap plications withou t having to exit from a currently active application.
Y our Phone 12 Selecting Functions and Options Soft Keys There are two soft keys, l eft and right (see “Open View of Y our Phone” on page 5). The roles o f the soft keys vary depending on the function you are currently using. Th e icons or labels on th e bottom line of the display just above each key indicate their current role .
Y our Phone 13 End Key The End key is used to turn your phone on and off, disconnect calls, and return to t he standby mode. ♦ Press and hold to turn on your phone. ♦ Briefly press once to disconnect a call . ♦ Press to return to st andby mode from any menu, or to cancel t he last input.
Y our Phone 14 files to and from your PC if y our PC is equipped with a m icroSD card reader or SD card reader and microSD adapter. Note: Before using a microSD card, it must be form atted with the F A T32 file system. Check the documentation that came with the memory card before using it with your phone and, if necessary , format th e card.
Y our Phone 15 The MicroSD icon is displayed on th e main screen to indicate th at a microSD card is inserted in the phon e. Note: If this is the first time that the microS D card is inserted into your ph one, the phone automatically creates a series of folders on it (Images, Videos , Music, Sounds, and Other files).
Y our Phone 16 T o insert a microSD card into a microSD adapter, hold the microSD card with the label side facing up and the gold contacts toward the ad apter . Gently insert the card into the microSD adapter and slide it into the adapter until it is fully inserted.
Getting S tarted 17 Getting Started Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular ne twork, you receive a plug-in USIM (Universal Subscriber Ide ntity Module) card loaded with your sub scription details, such as y our PIN, and optional services you have selecte d.
Getting S tarted 18 2. Lift the battery out of the phone (botto m edge first). Installing the SIM Ca rd Important! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
Getting S tarted 19 Installing the Battery 1. Align the top edge of t he battery un der the tabs at the to p edge of the battery chamber. 2. Press the battery do wn until it is seated in the battery chamber . Make sure that the battery i s properly installed before switching on the phone .
Getting S tarted 20 Charging the Ba ttery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion (li thium ion) battery . Use the travel adapter t o charge the battery , and use only Samsu ng approved batteries and chargers. Note: Fully charge the battery befor e using your phone for the fi rst time.
Getting S tarted 21 3. When the phone is full y charged, the mess age “Battery Full” appea rs on the display o r the bars in the b attery icon stop fla shing. Unplug the adapter from the power outle t. 4. Disconnect the adapter f rom the phone by gent ly pulling the conn ector out of th e jack.
Getting S tarted 22 The default display langua ge setting is Automatic , which i s dependent on the setting in t he SIM provided by yo ur service provider. For further details or to chang e the language, see the Language s ection in “Set Phone” on page 146.
Call Functions 23 Call Functions Making a Call From the Idle screen, e nter the phone nu mber (with area code , if necessary), then pres s the key . Note: When you activate the Auto Redial option, the phone automatical ly redials up to ten times when the call is not answered or someone is already on the phone.
Call Functions 24 Ending a Call When you want to end your call, briefl y press the key . Redialing a R ecent Number All incoming, outgoin g and missed calls are liste d in the Call History menu. If the number or caller is listed in your Contact Li st, the name associ ated with the number also displays.
Call Functions 25 Making a Call from the Contacts List Y ou can store phone numbers that you us e regularly in the SIM card or the phone’s memory . These entrie s are collectively grou ped in Contacts , one of your phone’s main menus . For details on using the Contacts men u, see “Contacts” on pag e 131.
Call Functions 26 2. End the call by pres sing the key . Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Con tact list or menu features. After ending the call, the phone returns to the function screen you were using. Missed Calls Whenever you miss one or more calls, the n umber of calls miss ed is displayed on th e Idle screen.
Call Functions 27 Calling Back a Missed Call T o call back a mi ssed call number: 1. Press the Vie w soft key . 2. Using the Up or Down na vigation key , high light the call you want to return and press the Options soft key . 3. Use the Navigation keys to highlight either V oice Call or Video Call and press the Select soft key or the key .

Options During a Call 29 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of features that you ca n use during a call. In Call Options During a call, press the Options soft key to access the foll owing: ♦ Whisper Mode On/Off: Increases the microphone se nsitivity so that you do not have to spea k loudly to be hea rd by the other part y .
Options During a Call 30 T o put a call on hold : 1. While on a call, pres s the Options soft key . Use the Up and Down navigation keys to scroll to Hold and press th e Select soft key or the key . The call is p laced on hold. 2. Y ou can reactivate th e call by press ing the Resume soft key .
Options During a Call 31 Using the Speakerphone Speakerphone lets s everal persons n ear the phone pa rticipate in a ca ll at the same time by bro adcasting the voi ce or voices of thos e on the other end of the telepho ne line and using the microphone to capture the voi ces of everyone near the ph one.
Options During a Call 32 key . Enter the new n umber and press the Call soft key or the key to dial the se cond call. 3. T o add this person to t he call, press the Options soft key and select the Join option. Press the Sele ct soft key . 4. T o continue adding p eople to the call , repeat steps 2 an d 3 above.
Options During a Call 33 T o end the mult i-party call: When you want to end a multi-party call, pres s the key . Sending a Sequence of DTMF T ones Y ou can choose to send DTM F tones after enteri ng the entire number y ou need to send rather th an as you press the numeric keys.

Call W aiting The Call Waiting feature lets you answer an incomin g call while you have a call in progress, if your network supports this service and you h ave set the Call waiting-Voice Calls option to Activate.
Access Codes 35 Access Codes There are several access codes used by y our phone and its SIM card. These codes help y ou protect the phone against unauthoriz ed use. When requested for any of the codes liste d below , enter the appro priate code (displayed as asterisks) and press th e Select soft key .
Access Codes 36 PUK The 8-digit PUK (PIN Unbloc king Key) is requi red to change a disa bled PIN. The PUK may be supplied with the SIM card. If not, or you hav e lost it, contact your servic e provid er . T o re-enable your PIN: 1. Enter the PUK and p ress the OK soft key .
Access Codes 37 2. Enter a new PIN2 of your choice an d press the OK soft key . 3. When the Confirm New PIN2 message displays, enter the same code again and press t he OK soft key . If you enter an incorre ct PUK2 ten times in successio n, you will not be able to access the func tions requiring t he PIN2.
Video Calling 38 Video Calling Video calling allows you to transmit photos and live video from you r camera phone to another v ideo calling-capab le handset, as well as receive photo s and live video from that ha ndset. Both phones must be located within a 3G Network coverage area.
Video Calling 39 Y our phone switches t o video callin g mode. During the v ideo call, your phone can transm it photos or videos from y our camera and receive photos or videos from the other phone during the co nversation. 4. T o en d your call, briefly press the key or clos e the phone.
Video Calling 40 ♦ Loudspeaker: Switches between Normal speaker volume an d Loudspeaker. The other phone’s sound is not affected. ♦ Outgoing Image: Controls the ima ge or video that i s displayed on the other phone. Y ou can se lect between: • Show Me: Displays your current cam era view (either Internal or External).

Video Calling 42 •Effects: Lets you apply Bl ack and White or Sepia effect to the image. • Video Quality: Allows you to op timize the transmit ted video quality for Normal, Little moveme nt or Lots of moveme nt.
Video Calling 43 • Select My Image: Press the Select so ft key and select either Get From My files or Use Preset Image . • Use Call Fail Options: Select either Off or On . When this opt ion is on, you will be prompted to choos e another connection metho d when a video call connection is no t successful.
Entering T ext 44 Entering T ext This section ex plains the various text input modes avail able for entering characters into your ph one. It also describ es how to use the T9 p redictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes required for en tering text.

Media 64 ♦ Set as : Lets you set the selected ring t une as your Voice Call Ring Tune, Video Call Ring Tune, Caller Ring T une or Alarm T one. ♦ Move: Lets you move the Selected file o r Multiple files to another folder on the phone or in the microSD memo ry card if one is inserted .
Media 65 ♦ Lock/Unlock: Allows you to lock the file so i t can not be deleted . Files must be unlocked b efore they can b e deleted. ♦ Properties: Displays all the p roperties of the c urrently selected file.

Media 74 • Single Shot: allows you to take a single photo and either review the photo after taking it (T ake and Review) or return immediately to the viewfinder to take another (T ake and Return). • Multi-Shot: Allows you to tak e a series of 6, 9 or 1 5 photos in quick succession .

Media 79 Sepia: Displays the pictu re in black and wh ite with a sep ia tint that makes it look li ke an old pict ure. Negative: Changes the im age to a negative i mage display . ♦ Time r : Allows you set the delay before the camera starts a video to Off, 3, 5 or 10 seconds.
Media 80 Options After Recording a Video When you press the Options soft key after saving a video, the followin g options are av ailable: ♦ Play: Plays the video yo u recorded. ♦ Send: Allows you to send the pho to in a picture messa ge or to an online album.

Call History 89 Call History In this menu (Menu 4 ), you can: ♦ View calls you missed, received or dialed ♦ Check your voice mail ♦ Add phone numbers from your call histo ry to Speed Dial ♦ Vi.
Call History 90 details. The num ber is displayed along with the time a nd date when the ca ll was made. Note: Y ou can access the most recent numbers in All Calls by press ing the key in Idle mode. Missed Calls This menu (Menu 4. 2) lets you view a lis t of calls you re ceived but did no t answer .

Call History 92 Using Speed Dial While in Idle mode , you can speed-dia l the numbers assig ned to numeric keys 3 to 9 by p ressing and holdin g the appropriate key until the phone begins dialing. Delete All This menu (Menu 4.6) allo ws you to delete all of the records in one or more call record types.

i.Fid o 95 Music Accesses the Jav a-powered Rogers Music Player , which lets you p lay music you have d ownloaded from your serv ice provider or loade d from your PC to your phone or Micro SD memory card. This feature also l ets you buy new songs, mana ge your playlists and c ustomize the Musi c Player settings.
