Your phone 11 Key (s) Description In Menu mode, scrolls through the menu options and Phonebook. In Idle mode, allows you to access y our favourite menu options directly . For further details about shortcuts, see page 155. When entering text, moves the cursor to the left or right, dependi ng on which side you push.
Your phone 12 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off wh e n he ld down. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns the phone to Idle mod e. In Idle mode, accesses your voice mail when he ld down. Enter numbers, letters, and some special characters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: Area Descriptio n First line Displays various ico ns. See page 14. Middle lines Displays messages, instruct ions, and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialling.
Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of your service area. When it displays, you cannot mak e or receive a call.
Your phone 15 Backlight The backlig ht illumin ates the dis play and the keypad. When you press a ny key or push th e slider up, the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the setting in the Back light menu ( Menu 9.
Your phone 16 Service light The service light, which is a circular light around the Navigation keys, flashes when services are av ailable on the phone. T o activ ate or deacti vate the se rvice light, use the Service light menu ( Menu 9.2.4 ). See page 148 for further details.
17 Getting started Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in S IM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av a ila ble, a nd so on.
Getting started 18 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM ca rd sock e t, as shown, so that the card locks into position. Make sure the me tal contac ts of the card face into the phone. Note : When you need to remov e the SIM card, slide it upw a rd s, as sh own, and ta k e it out of the socket.
Getting started 19 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make sure that the batter y is properly installe d before switching on t he power . Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeab le Li-ion battery . A trav el charger comes with y our phone for charging the battery .
Getting started 20 2. Plug the charger into a standard AC w all outlet. The LED on the travel charger indicates the chargi ng progre ss by the foll owing col ors: • R ed: the battery is being charged. • Green: the battery is completely charged. 3.
Getting started 21 Switching on or off the phone 1. Press and hold t he key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks you to ente r a password, enter a passwo rd and pre ss the key or OK soft key . The password is preset to “000000 00” at the factory .
22 Call functions Making a call When the idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , then press t he key . Note : When you activ ate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu ( Menu 9.7 ) , the phone will au tomatic ally red ial up to ten times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.
Call functions 23 Ending a call When you want to end your call , brief ly press the key or push the slider down. Redialling t he last number The phone stores the numbers of the calls you ’ve dialled, rece ived or m issed, if t he call recip ient or caller is identifi ed.
Call functions 24 Making a call from phonebo ok Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memory . These entries are col lectively called Phonebook. Once you have stored a number in Phonebook, you can dial it by pressing a few k eys.
Call functions 25 Answering a call When somebo dy calls you, the phone rings a nd displays the incomi ng call imag e. The caller ’s phone number or name, if stored in Phonebook, displays. 1. If necessary , push the sli der up. 2. Press the k ey or the Accept soft key to answer th e incomin g call.
Call functions 26 Viewing misse d calls When you are unable to answ er a call for any reason, you can find out who called you so that y ou can cal l the per son back. The number of calls you’ve missed displays on the idle screen immediat ely after a call is missed.

Call functions 28 Quickly switching to sile nt mode Silent mode is convenient when y ou wish to stop the phone from making noise, in a theatre for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent mode” message and the Vibration icon ( ) display .
29 Selecting functions and options Y o ur phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customize it. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed using the two soft keys, and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Selecting functions and options 30 Selecting options T o view the v arious functions and options av ailab le and to select the one you want: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the co de and press the key or OK soft key .
31 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in both your SIM card and your phone’ s memory . They are physic ally separ ate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook. Note : Depending on y our particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers the SIM card can store may differ .

Note : When y o u ch ange pho nes, any nu mb ers stored in yo ur SIM ca rd m e m ory a re automatically av ailable with the new phone, whereas any numbers stored in the phone’s memory will need to be reentered.

Phonebook 35 Paste : allows you to paste the number into the normal dialling mode. Use this option to dial a number similar to one in Phonebo ok, such as a different extension in the same office. Use the C key to change the number as required; see page 22 for further details.
Phonebook 36 Editing a caller group 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Phonebook soft k ey . 2. Scroll to Group edit b y p r e s s i n g t h e U p o r D o w n key and press the key or Selec t soft k ey . 3. Scroll through the group list by pressing the Up or Down key .
Phonebook 37 Dialling a number from phonebook Once you have stored phone numbers in Phonebook, you can dial t hem easily and quickly by using the location num bers that were assig ned to them in Phonebook.
Phonebook 38 Speed-dialling Once you have stored phone numbers from your Phonebook list, you can set up to eight speed-dial entries and then dial t hem easily whenever you want, simply by pressing the asso ciated numeric key . Setting up spee d-dial entries 1.

Phonebook 43 Checking the memory status Y ou can c heck how many names and numbers are stored in Phonebook, in both the SIM card and the phone’s m emories. Y ou can also see the capacity of both memories . 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Phonebook soft k ey .
Phonebook 44 Using the service dialling numbers Y ou can view the list of Service Dialling Numbers (SDN) ass igned by your ser vice provi der . These numbers include emerge ncy numbers, directory enquiries an d v oi ce m ail numbers. 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Phonebook soft key .
45 Entering text When using your phone, you w ill often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your p ersonal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering text 46 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, you will notice the tex t input mo de indicator on the display . Example : Writing a text message Note : Additional text input modes may be av ailable, depending on your country .
Entering text 47 Using T9 mode T9 is a predictive text inp ut mode that allows you to key in an y character using single keystrokes. This text input mode is based on a built - in di ctio n ary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the keys 2 to 9 .
Entering text 48 T o add a new word into the T9 dictionary: 1. After pressing the k eys corresponding to the word you want to add, press the 0 or Do wn ke y to display the alternative words. 2. When you press the 0 or Down key at the last alternative word, the displa y show s Add on the bottom line.
Entering text 49 Using alphabet mode Use the 1 to 0 keys to ent er yo ur tex t. 1. Press the keys labe lled with the letter you wa nt: - Once for t he first lette r - T wice for the second letter - And so on 2. Select t he other letters in the same way .
Entering text 50 • T o insert a space, press th e key . • T o shi ft case i n Alphabet mode, use the key . There are three cases; Capital lock ( ), Lower case ( ), and Initial capital ( ). • Y ou can move t he cursor by u sing the Left and Right keys.

52 Options during a call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Putting a call on hold Y ou can place the current call on hol d whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you hav e a call in progress if your network sup ports this service.
Options during a call 53 T o swit ch between the tw o calls, simply press the Swap soft key . The current call is placed on hold and the call on hold is reactivated so that you can continue convers ing with that person. When you want to finish, end each call normally by pressing the k ey .
Options during a c all 54 Switching off the microphone (Mute) Y ou can tempor arily switch off your phone’ s microphone so that the other person on the pho ne cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say something to a person in the room, but d o not want the person on the phone to hear you.
Options during a call 55 Muting or sendi ng key tones These options allow you to turn the k ey tones off or on. If the Mute keys option is selected , your phone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi- Frequency) tones of the keys, which allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.
Options during a c all 56 Searching for a number in phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call. 1. Press the key or Options soft key . 2. Press the Down key to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the key or OK soft k ey . The Phonebo ok entries are l isted.
Options during a call 57 Call waiting Y ou can answer an incoming call while you have a call in progress, if your network sup ports this service and you hav e set the Call waiting menu ( Menu 3.3 ) to Activate ; see page 78. Y ou are notified of an in co m in g ca ll by a call w aiting tone.

T o add a new person to the multi-party call, call the new pers on in the normal way and press the key o r Opti ons soft k ey .

60 Using the menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scroll ing usin g the Naviga tion keys or by using the shortcuts.

69 Call records In this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received, or dialled. • length of your calls. • cost of your calls. * Notes : • Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in Id le mode.
Call records 70 Received calls (Menu 2.2) This menu lets you view the 20 most recent calls you rece ived. The number or name, if av ailable, displays together with the time and date the c all was re ceived. By pressing the key or Options soft k ey , you can: • edit the number , if av ailable, and dial it or sa ve it in Phonebook.
Call records 71 Delete all (Menu 2.4) This menu allows you to dele te all of the recor ds in each call record s eparately . Y ou can also delete all of your call reco rds at one time. 2. Press the Delete soft key to delete the marked records. 3. When a confirmation message display s, press the key or Yes soft key to confirm.
Call records 72 Call time (Menu 2.5) This menu lets you view the ti mers for calls you made and received. Note : The actual time inv oiced by yo ur servi ce provider may v ary , depending on network features, rounding-off for billing pu rposes , and so on.
Call records 73 Call costs (Menu 2.6) This network fea ture le ts y ou v iew the c ost o f calls. This menu may not be av ailable depending on your SIM card. The following options are availab le: Last call cost : cost of the last call yo u made. Total cost : total cost of all calls you mad e since the cost counter was last reset.
74 Network services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your s ervice provider to check their av ailability a nd subscribe t o them, if y ou wish. Call diverting (Menu 3.1) This netwo rk service enable s incoming ca lls to be rerouted to a number that you specify .
Network services 75 2. Select the type of calls, v oice or data, b y pressing the U p or Down key , and then press the key o r Select soft key . The current status displays. If the option has already been set, the number to which the calls are divert ed displays.
Network services 76 Call barring (Menu 3.2) The call barring network service allows you to restrict your calls. T o set your call barring options: 1. Select a call barring option by pressing the Up or Down key , and then press the key or Select soft key .

Network services 79 Network select ion (Menu 3.4) The Network selection feature enables you to automatically or manually select the network used when roaming outs ide of your home area. Note : Y ou can s elect a network other than your home network only if there is a v alid roa m in g agreement between the two.
Network services 80 Caller ID (Menu 3.5) Y ou can p revent your phone number from being display ed on the phone of the pers on being called. Note : Some networks do not allow the user to change this settin g. The following options are availab le: Default : the default setting pro vided by the network is used.
Network services 81 Activating a closed user group If you select the Closed user group menu, you can enter the CUG function. Y ou can now access the following options after pressing the key or Selec t soft key: Index list : lets you lis t, ad d, or delete CUG index numbers.
Network services 82 Default group : you may set a default CUG with your service provider . If you have done so , you can enable the Default group option on your phone. When making a call, you are given the option of using your default CUG, instead of selecting one from the list.
83 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound settings feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ring tone, volume, and alert ty pe. • sounds made when you press a key , receive a message, push the slider up or down, switch on or off your phone.
Sound setti ngs 84 Alert ty pe (Menu 4.3) This menu allows you to specify how y ou are to be informed of incoming calls or alarms you set. The following options are availab le: Light only : the service light flashes; the phone neither rings nor vibrates.
Sound setting s 85 Message tone (Menu 4.5) This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new message has been receiv ed. SMS tone (Menu 4.5.1) The following options are availab le for alerting you to new SMS message s: Off : the phone does not use an SMS tone.
Sound setti ngs 86 MMS tone (Menu 4.5.3 ) The following options are availab le for alerting you to new MMS messages: Off : the phone does not use an MMS tone. Light only : the service lig ht flashes. Vibration : the phone vibrates. Single beep : the phone beeps once.
Sound setting s 87 Power o n/off (Menu 4.7) This menu allows y ou to select the melody that the phone sounds when it is switched on or off . Select either Classical or Cheerful .
Sound setti ngs 88 Extra tones (Menu 4.9) Y ou can customise additional tones for the phone. The following options are availab le: Error tone : sets whether or not the phone informs you when you make a mista ke.
89 Messages Using the Messages menu, you can use v arious message features, such as: • short text messages • multi media messages •W A P p u s h m e s s a g e s •v o i c e m a i l • cell broadcast messages Y o u can also access online album, mail, and messenger services given by y o ur service pro vider .
Messages 90 Create (Menu 5.1.1) In this menu, you can w rite and send a text message. Note : When you add media items to a message, the number of characters you are allowed to enter decreases.
Messages 91 • Fo r further details about Text form atting , Add content , Add template s , Add from phonebook , Add from b ookmarks , and Language options, see page 91. 3. Select Send only or Save and send , and press the key or Selec t soft k ey . If you wa nt to just save the messag e, select Save only .
Messages 92 For th e Bold , Italic , Underline , and Strikethrough attributes, select On or Off . These attributes can be combined. • Add content : allows you to add a sound, melody , picture, or anim ated ima ge to the message. Select the category of the object to be added.
Messages 93 Inbox (Menu 5.1.2) This message box is used to store messages that you have received. When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays with the senders’ phone numbers or names, if available in y our Pho neb ook. 1. Select a message from the list and press the key or View soft key to read the message contents.
Messages 94 Save address : allows yo u to extr act the sender’ s number and URL, e-m ail addresses, or phone numbers from the message text. Move to phone : allo ws you to move the messag e from the SIM card to the phone’ s memory . This option is only available wh en you select a message stored in the SI M card.
Messages 95 Delete : allows you to delete the messag e. Send : allows you to send/ resend the message. For further details, see page 90. Save address : allows yo u to ex tr act the destination number and URL, e-mail addresses or phone numbers from the message text.
Messages 96 Send : allows y ou to retrieve the message template. Once you have completed the message, you can send, save and send, or simply save it. F or further details about how to send a message, see page 90. Delete : allows y ou to delete the message t emplate.
Messages 97 Default type : allows y ou to set the default message type to Text , Fax , E-mail , or Paging . The network can convert the messages into the selected format. V alidit y period : allows y ou to se t the length of tim e your text messages are stored i n the me ssage centre while atte m pts are m ade to d eliv e r them .
Messages 98 Multimedia messages (Menu 5.2) Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a service providi ng deliver y of pe rsonal mul timedia messages from phone to phone or fr om phone to e-mai l. In addition to the familiar text conten t, multimedia messages can contain images, video clips, audio clips, and combinations of these things.
Messages 99 2. When Add here highlights, press the key or Optio ns soft key and add the m essage contents using one of the following options: • Add text : enter the message text and press the key or OK soft key . • Add photo : allo ws you t o add a photo you took using the camera on your phone.

Y ou can enter up to 10 destinations each for To , Cc , and Bcc . 12. When you have finished entering the destinations, select Send message and press the key or Select soft key .
Messages 103 3. T o read the message, press the key or Select soft key . Y our phone retrieves the message contents f rom the server and displa ys it . 4. T o scroll through the message, press the Up or Down key . 5. When you are finished, press the key .

T o scroll through the message, press the Up or Down key . If the message ha s more t han one page, you can scroll through the pages by using the Left and Right keys.
Messages 105 Save sound : allows you to save a sound from the message into the Sounds folder ( Menu 6.3 ). Properties : shows y ou information abou t the message, such as the message s tatus, subject, sender’s e-mail address or phone num ber , message size, priority , and the time and dat e the message was receiv ed.
