Using This Manual 1 Using This Manual This user manual ha s been specially designed to guide you through the functions and featu res of your phone. T o get started quickl y , refer to Y our Phone, Getting Started and Call Functions.

The shortcuts are: When entering text, the left and right nav igation keys mov e the cursor left and right. Y our Phone 9 Display Display Layout The internal di splay has thre e main areas: Area Description Icons Displays various icons that ind icate phone st atus. T ext an d graphics area Displays messages, menus, instructions and any information that you ent er , such as the number you are dialing.
Y our Phone 10 Icons Shows the received s ignal strength. The mo re bars, the stronger the signal . Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when there is no network coverage avai lable. Appears when the phone is accessing service s on an Edge network .
Y our Phone 11 Selecting Functions and Options Soft Keys There are two soft ke ys, left and right (se e “Front View of Y our Phone” on page 5). The roles of th e soft keys vary dependin g on the function you a re currently using. The icons or labels on the bottom line o f the display just above each key indicate their current role.
Y our Phone 12 Clear Key The Clear key [ ] is used to erase o r clear numbers, te xt, or symbols from the display . If you enter an inc orrect character, press to backspace and de lete the character . T o erase an entire sentence, press an d hold.
Y our Phone 13 Speakerphone Key During a call, pr ess [ ] to enable the speak erphone. Use the volum e keys (on the left side of t he phone) to adjust t he volume. Memory Card Y our phone accepts a mic roSD (Secure Digital) me mory card up to 2 GB capacity to expan d the available me mory space.
Y our Phone 14 2. Holding the micro SD card with the gold c ontacts facing down and toward the phone, gently insert the card into the s lot. Using a fing ernail or pen tip, gently p ush the card in until it i s fully inserted and locked. 3. Close the protective c over and press it flu sh with the side of the phone.
Y our Phone 15 2. Use a fingernail or pe n tip to press and releas e the microSD card. The card ejects part way out to allow removal. Pu ll the microSD card out of the phone. 3. Close the protective cover and press it fl ush with the side of th e phone.
Getting S tarted 16 Getting Started SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, yo u receive a plug-in SIM (Subscriber Ident ity Module) card load ed with your subscript ion details, such as your PIN, an d optional services you have selecte d.
Getting S tarted 17 2. Lift the battery out of t he phone (bottom edg e first). Installing the SIM Card Important! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scr atches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing th e card and keep it out of reach of children.
Getting S tarted 18 Installing th e Battery 1. Align the top ed ge of the battery unde r the tabs at the top edge of the battery chamber with the arrow on the ba ttery pointing toward the battery contacts. 2. Press the battery down until it is seated in the battery chamber.
Getting S tarted 19 Note: Fully charge the battery befor e using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approximately four hours. Y ou can use the phone while the ba ttery is charging, but this causes the phone to charge more slowly .
Getting S tarted 20 4. Unplug the adapt er from the power outlet an d disconnect it from the phone by gently p ulling the connec tor out of the jack. Note: T o avoid damaging the phone, you must unpl ug the adapter before removing the battery from the phone.

Call Functions 22 Call Functions Making a Call From the Idle screen, en ter the phone number (with area code, if necessary), then p ress [ ]. Note: When you activate the Auto Redial option, the phone automatically redials up to ten times when the call is not answered or someone is already on the phone.
Call Functions 23 Redialing a Rece nt Number All incoming, outgoing an d missed calls are listed in the Call History menu. If the number or ca ller is listed i n your Contact List, the name associat ed with the number also di splays. T o re dial a number: 1.
Call Functions 24 call simply by o pening the phone. Se e the Call Answer section in “General” on page 125 for more informati on. 2. End the call by pressing [ ]. Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Con tact list or menu features. After ending the call, the phone returns to the menu screen you were using.
Call Functions 25 Sending a Messag e to a Missed Call T o send a text or pi cture message to a m issed call numbe r: 1. Open the Missed Calls li st (see above). 2. Scroll to the call you want to return, press < Options > and sele ct Send Message T ext Message or Picture Mess age .
Call Functions 26 T o return to the previous sound profile, press and hold [ ] until a screen message indicates the return t o the previous soun d profile and the Silent Mode ic on disap pears.
Options During a Call 27 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of features that you ca n use during a call. In Call Options During a call, press < Options > to access the fol lowing: Hold: Places th e call on hold. New Call: Plac es the current cal l on hold and allows you to enter and dial another num ber .
Options During a Call 28 2. Enter the new nu mber and press [ ] to dial the secon d call. 3. T o switch between the two calls, ch anging the one on h old to active and placing the o ther on hold, press < Options > and se lect Swap . 4. T o finish, end each call by pressing [ ].
Options During a Call 29 Note: T o communicate with answering machines or computerized telephone systems, the Send Keypad T one option must be selected. Making a Multi-party Call Multi-party calling i s a network service that al lows up to six pe ople to take part simultaneously in a multi-party or “confere nce” call.
Options During a Call 30 1. Press < Options> and select Remove . Highligh t the partici pant you wish to drop and pr ess [ ]. Repeat t his step as neces sary . The calls to the re moved participant(s) ar e ended but you ca n continue to talk to the others.
Options During a Call 31 Call W ait ing Call Waiting lets you answer an incomi ng call while you ha ve a call in progress, if your network sup ports this service and you have set the Call W aiting-V oice Call option to Activate. For informa tion on changing Call W aiting settings s ee “Call Waiting” on page 128 .
Access Codes 32 Access Codes There are severa l access codes used by your phone a nd its SIM card. These codes hel p protect the pho ne against unautho rized use.
Access Codes 33 T o re -enable your PIN: 1. Enter the PUK and press < OK >. 2. Enter a new PIN of your choice and press < OK >. 3. When the Confirm New PIN message d isplays, enter the s ame code again and press < OK >. If you enter an incorrect PUK ten times in succession, the SIM card becomes invalid.
Entering T ext 34 Entering T ext This section ex plains the various text input modes for e ntering characte rs into your phone. I t also describes ho w to use the T9 pred ictive text entry system to reduce the n umber of k ey strokes re quired fo r entering text.
Entering T ext 35 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive te xt input mode b ased on a built-in d ictionary that al lows you to key in cha racters using a s ingle keystroke. Y our phone s elects the most likely word base d on your keystroke combinations. T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1.
Entering T ext 36 Using Alphabet Mode In Alphabet mode you u se the 0 to 9 keys to enter your text. 1. Press the key labeled wit h the letter you want: once to enter the first letter on the key , twice in quick succession for th e second letter, three times for the third le tter , etc .

Press the keypad keys corres ponding to the dig its you want to en ter . Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode lets yo u insert symbol s and punctua tion marks into text.
T ransferring Files 38 T ransferring Files Y ou can transfer pictures , video clips and other files between yo ur phone and a personal co mputer in several ways , including: using a USB cable .

T ransferring Files 40 5. Click the My Computer icon to view fi le folders on the PC. Navigate to the PC folder you want to access. 6. Y ou can drag and drop files between phone and PC folders.
T ransferring Files 41 T ransferring Files via microSD Card Y ou can directly transfer music and other files between y our PC and a microSD memory card.
T ransferring Files 42 1. Connect the USB cable to a USB port on your PC and to yo ur phone. USB Mode set to Ask on Connection: the Ask on Co nnection window appears o n the phone. High light Media Player and press < Selec t > or [ ]. “Conn ected to PC” appears on the display .
Menus 43 Menus This section expla ins the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all th e available menus associated with you r phone. Some menu options are co ntrolled by the SI M provided by your servic e provider. Menu Navigation The navigation key s on your phone all ow you to scroll throug h menus quickly and easi ly .

Boutik 45 Boutik This menu selectio n (Menu 1) opens the Internet Browser , acc esses Fido mobile Internet a nd automatically a ccesses a Fido Web pag e where you can shop for music , ring tunes, games, images and vid eo files; access messaging functio ns; and view news a nd information.
Media 46 Media The Media menu (Menu 2) enables you to: Manage your media files (audio, graphi cs, videos, other fi les) Use the audio recorde r Media files are org anized in a se ries of folders. Y ou can also c reate additional folde rs or sub-folders to furth er organize your files.

Media 48 1. From the Idle screen, press [ ] and select Media Audio Ring T unes Get New Ring T unes. The browser launches and open s the Get Music & T ones screen. 2. Follow the on-scree n options to select and download a f ile. Press < Menu > to access browse r options (see “Internet ” on page 69).
Media 49 3. T o play the tune, select < Play >. T o use the tune as the phone’s ring tune, select Set as Ring T une , then press < Ye s > to confirm the ch oice. T o use the tune as a caller ring tune, select Set as Caller Ring T une , then press < Ye s > to confirm the choice .
Media 50 Lock/Unlock: Allows you to l ock the file so it can not be deleted. Files must be unlocke d before they can be deleted. Properties: Displays all the prop erties of the currently selected file. Record Audio Record Audio allows you to record audio clips such as vo ice memos and send audio clip s to other people.
Media 51 Go to Recorded Audio: T akes you to the Rec orded Audio folder , which contains audio fil es that you hav e created using the built-in recorder. Send via: Lets y ou send the selec ted file to a reci pient in a picture message or via Bluet ooth to another Bluetoo th device.
Media 52 Recorded Audio Options While in the Recorded Audio folder, press < Options > to select one of the following option s. The availability of some of these opti ons depends on the highlighted (sele cted) file: Play: Plays the currently s elected audio file .
Media 53 Properties: Display the prop erties of the currently se lected media file (Name, Date, Format, L ength, Size, Lock/Unl ock). Graphics This folder contains your collections of provided and downloade d pictures as well as those taken with your phone ’s internal camera.
Media 54 Picture Album This menu selec tion allows you to vi ew photos that you ha ve taken. 1. From the Idle sc reen, press [ ] and select Media Graphics Picture Album . 2. T o view an image, highlight it and press < > or press < Options > and select Vi ew .
Media 55 Display Mode: Chooses whether to display phot os in Thumbnail View or Line View . Send: Lets you send the selected fi le to a recipient via Picture Messa ge, via Bluetooth to anot her Bluetooth device , or to an Online Albu m. Set as: allows you to set the photo as wallpaper or assign it to a Caller ID.
Media 56 Save as: Allows you resave the i mage with a dif ferent na me. Effects: Allows you to apply No Effects or a Black & White, Negative, Sepia, Blur , Sharpen, Sketch, Posteriz e or Solarize effect to the imag e. Press < Done > to accept the cha nge or < Undo > to deny the change.
Media 57 1. From the Idle screen, pre ss [ ] and select Media Videos Get New Videos. The browser launches and opens t he TV/Video screen. 2. Follow the on-screen options to select and d ownload a file. Downloaded Videos This menu allows you to view video files that you have downloaded .
Media 58 Play: Plays the currently s elected video. Display Mode: Chooses wheth er to display the vi deo list in Thumbnail View or Line V iew . Send: Lets you send the select ed file to a recipient via Picture Messag e, via Bluetooth to an other Bluetooth device, o r to an Online Album.
Media 59 If there is a memory card in yo ur phone, you ca n access files stored in your phone or on th e card using the up and down navigation keys to choose Other Files or Memory Card and pressing [ ].
Media 60 Memory Status The Memory Status m enu allows you to view the memory usag e and available spac e in your phone and on an inserted microSD card. It displays the total memory used a nd available as well as the memo ry usage for each storage folder.
Games & Apps 61 Games & Apps Using the Games & Apps menu ( Menu 3 ) you can play gam es already stored on your phone , as well as downloa d games and other a pplications from your service prov ider . Games Get New Games This selection all ows you to download games from your serv ice provider.
Games & Apps 62 Play a Game T o play a game: 1. From the Idle sc reen, press [ ] and select Gam es & Apps. 2. Scroll to the gam e you want to play and press [ ] or < Options > and select < Start >. 3. The game ’s wel come scre en display s informat ion about the game.
Call History 63 Call History In this menu ( Menu 4 ), you can: View details of calls you missed, received or dia led Add phone numbers from your call histo ry to Speed Dial View the length.
Call History 64 2. Scroll through the list and press [ ] or press < Options > and select Details to view call details , including number, time and date. Note: Y ou can access the most recent numbers in All Calls by press ing [ ] in Idle mode. Missed Calls This menu (Menu 4.
Call History 65 Speed Dial List Using Speed Dial (Men u 4.5), you can ass ign up to eight p hone numbers from your Contact Li st to number key s 2 to 9 and dial them whe never you want simply by p ressing and holding the associated n umber key . Note: Speed dial key 1 is reserved for your V oice Mail server number .
Call History 66 Using Speed Dial From Idle mode, you can speed -dial the numbers as signed to numeric keys 2 to 9 by pressin g and holding the k ey until the phone begins dialing. Delete All This menu (Menu 4.6) allo ws you to delete all of the records in one or more call record types.
Call History 67 T o reset a timer, press [ ] or < Reset >. When “Are Y ou Sure?” appears press < Ye s >. Enter the phon e password an d press < OK > or [ ].

Internet 69 Internet This menu selectio n (Menu 5) opens the Internet Browser and automatically acc esses the Fido Zone home page. Y ou can also view other Internet sites, v iew sites saved as Book marks, create Bookmark s, clear your cache or ma nage cookies.
Internet 70 Entering T ext in th e Internet Browser When you are prompte d to enter text, the c urrent text input mode is indicated at the upper right side of the screen.
Internet 71 Go : Accesses the bookma rked page. Edit: Lets you edit the title and/or URL of the selected boo kmark. Overwrite: Lets you c hange the name and/or URL of the selected bookmark. Send via T ext Mess age: Send the URL of the curren t page via a text message.
Internet 72 1. Open your Book marks list (see abov e) and choose the Bo okmark you want to delete. 2. Press < Options > and select Delete Selected . 3. Press < Yes > or [ ] to c onfirm the deletio n. T o delete all bookmarks: 1. Open your Book marks list (see abov e).
Messages 73 Messages From the Messages m enu (Menu 6) , you can send and receive a range of different message types from your mobile pho ne, including: Instant Message: FIDO IM ( Insta nt Messenger) lets y ou send and receive instant messages usi ng Windows Live a nd Y ahoo! commun ities.
Messages 74 2. Choose the IM se rvice you want to access (Windows Live or Y ahoo!) and press [ ] or < Select > 3. If no accounts ex ist, choose New Account and press [ ] or < OK >.
Messages 75 Sound Settings: Lets you choos e sounds for Receive Message, Contact Alert, an d System Message; a nd set Repetition (Once, Every 1 Min, Every 2 Min). IM Profiles: Lets you view th e Current Profile and chang e profile settings. The defaul t network profile is Fido W AP .
Messages 76 2. T y pe your message in the message window . The numb er at the bottom left side of the screen displays the number of characte rs still available.
Messages 77 Input Mode: Allows you to cha nge the input method for ad ding text, numbers and symb ols to your messag e. For more information, see “Entering T ext” on page 34. T ext Style: Allows you to change the T ext Size, T ext Style, Bold, Italic and Align ment.
Messages 78 • FDN Contacts: Lets you add recipients from yo ur FDN list (availability o f FDN depends on yo ur SIM card, contact y our service provider for details ). • Save to: Lets you save the message to Drafts o r My Folder . 4. Press < Send > to send the message.
Messages 79 Send Settings: Lets you ch ange the message s end settings (Delivery Report, Re ad Reply , Priority , Expiry , Delivery After). 4. T o add an audio file, select Audio . Th e available options are : Add: Lets you Record Audio or add a file from Recorded Audio, Downloaded T ones, or Memory Card.
Messages 80 T ext Style: Allows you to change th e T ex t Color or T ext Size and add Bold, Italic or Underl ine. When you are finished enterin g your message, press < Options > and select Save to save the text in the message and return to the New screen .
Messages 81 • Common Address: Opens the Commo n Address list, where you can store up to ten email addresses. • Send: Sends the messag e. • Save to: Lets you save the messa ge to Drafts or My Folder . • Change Recipient: Lets you chang e the recipient desi gnation to Cc (carbon copy) or Bcc (blind carbon cop y).
Messages 82 View Messages T o view a message stored in one of the message folde rs: 1. From the Idle sc reen, press [ ] and select Messages message folder ( Inbox , Sent , Outbox , or Drafts) .
Messages 83 Move to Phone/Move to SIM Card : If a message is stored in the SIM card, this option tran sfers it to the phone ’s memory . If a message is stored in the phone’s memory , it i s transferred to the SIM card.
Messages 84 2. Scroll to an Empty template location and press [ ] o r press < Options > and select Add New to open a blank template. Ente r the text you want to save as a template.
Messages 85 V oice Mail Server Before using your phon e’s V oice Mail features, you must h ave a valid server number configu red in your phone. If y our service provide r has not configured the n umber for you already or you need to chang e the number, use the following proce dure to enter the server n umber obtained from yo ur service provider.
Messages 86 Messages Settings This menu lets y ou configure various options for using te xt and picture messaging servi ces. T o access the Messages Settings menu: 1. From the Idle screen, press [ ] and select Me ssages Messages Settings . For details on the various messages settings, see “Message Settings” on page 133.
To o l s 87 To o l s Camera Using the Camera in yo ur phone, you can take pictures of people or event s while on the move . Additionally , y ou can send pictu res to other peopl e in a picture message or set o ne as wallpaper on yo ur display screen. Y ou can also record videos (s ee “Camcorder” on page 93).
To o l s 88 Y ou can change the zoom us ing the left and right navigation ke ys. 3. Press [ ] to take th e picture. Camera Options in Cap ture Mode Camera options are ac cessed by pressi ng < >. Use the left and right navigation key s to scroll to in dividual options, then the up and down navigation keys to make a selection.
To o l s 89 Emboss: Changes the pic ture to look like an embossed surface . Sketch: Gives the pictu re the appearance of a pencil sketc h. Antique: Displays the picture in black an d white with a yello w tint that makes it look li ke an old pict ure.
To o l s 90 Mode Settings in Captu re Mode The < > key acces ses the Mode settings : Camera: Allows you to take pi ctures. Camcorder: Allows you to take video cli ps. Gallery: Lets y ou access the Pictu re Album or My Video Cl ips folder .
To o l s 91 • Metering Exposure: Sets the metering method the camera uses to determine the proper ex posure for the picture. Sel ect Matrix (divides the screen into s egments and averages t he expos.
To o l s 92 • Save as: Lets you spe cify a unique name for the picture fi le. Otherwise, pictures ar e named using the d efault naming convent ion (to change the default format see Default Name in the previous section).
To o l s 93 Camcorder Using the camcord er , you can record videos with your phone in MP4 format. The video cli ps you create can b e sent to other properl y equipped phones. Y ou can also vi ew the clips with th e built-in media pla yer . Recording Videos T o record a video: 1.
To o l s 94 Camcorder Options in Record Mode Camcorder options are accessed using the < > key . Use the Left and Right navigation k eys to scroll to ind ividual options, t hen the Up and Down navigation keys to make a selection. Press [ ] to confirm a new selection.
To o l s 95 Audio Record ing: Lets you choose whe ther to rec ord sound with the video. Recording Mode: Switches recording mode between No rmal and Limit for Picture Message ( limits the video clip file size to allow tr ansmission in a Picture Message .
To o l s 96 Mode Settings in Ca pture Mode The < > key accesses th e Mode settings : Camera: Allows you to take photos. Camcorder: Allows you to take video cli ps. Gallery: Lets y ou access the Ca mera Album or My Video Clips folde r .
To o l s 97 Rename: Lets yo u specify a different name fo r the file. Go to My Video Clips: Opens the My Video Clips fo lder . Bluetooth Visibility: Allows the file to be share d or released for u se with another Bluetoot h device. Print via Bluetooth: Lets you print to a Bluetooth enab led printer .
To o l s 98 While using the FM radio, the following op tions are available by pressing < Options >: FM Radio On/Off: Turns the radio on and off. Earphone On/Speaker On: Selects whether s ound is played th rough the headset or the phone’s speaker .
To o l s 99 Alarms This menu (Menu 7.3) a llows you to: Set a series of alarms to ring at specific t imes Set the phone to s witch on automati cally and play the alarm when switched off Set an Alarm 1. From the Idle screen, pre ss [ ] and select T ools Alarms .
To o l s 100 9. Choose the Alarm Day panel. Press [ ] to open the selectio n menu. The menu choices are: Every day: The alarm soun ds each day at the Alarm Time. Once only: The alarm sounds the first time the Ala rm Time occurs. Individual days: The alarm s ounds at the Alarm Time only on the selected day(s).
To o l s 101 T o delete any of the alarms you have added, choose the alarm, press < Options >, choose Delete , press < Se lect > or [ ], and press < Ye s > to confirm the deletion. Calendar Using the Calen dar feature (Menu 7.4), y ou can view any mont h, week or day .
To o l s 102 Day view provides a list of the event s associated with the chosen d ay , the scheduled time for each and icons i ndicating the t ype of event, alarm indicator, etc. T o Change the View While in any of the Calendar views, press < Options > an d select Vie w b y .
