2 T ext Conv entions This manual provides co ndensed information about how to use your device. T o make this po ssible, the following text conventions are used to represent often-used steps: Bat t er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion battery .
Getting Started 3 Note: The battery comes part ially charged. Y ou must fully charge the battery before using yo ur device for the first time. After the first charge, you can use the device while charging. 1. Insert the USB c able into the Charging Head.
4 4. When charging is c omplete , unplug the Charging Head from the power outlet and remove the USB cable from the device. Getting Started 5 Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fullest extent, you will need to create a Goo gle™ Account when you first use your device. With a Google Accoun t, Google applications will always be in sync between your tablet and comput er.
6 Retrie ving Y our Google Account Pas swor d A Google account password is require d for Google applications. If you mis place or forget your Google Account password, follow these instructions to retrieve it: 1. From your computer , use an Internet brows er to navigate to http://google.

External Speakers : Used in music or video playback, notification tones, and f or other sounds. 2. Light Sensor : Used to control sc reen brightness automatically a nd when taking photos with t he front-facing C amera.

Understanding Y our Device 1 1 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device . Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this user manual start with the de vice unlocked, at the Home sc reen. 1. Widgets : Applications that run on the Home screen.
12 Extended Home Screen The Home screen c onsists of the Home panel, plus four panels that extend beyo nd the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts and widgets . Slide your finger horizontally ac ros s the screen to scroll to th e left or right side panels.

Understanding Y our Device 15 S P en Settings There are several settings available that control the behavior of the S Pen. For example, you can choose a sound that will play when you remove the S P en from or return it to the slo t in your device.
16 Using the S P en There are several d ifferent functions you can perform by using the S Pen. S Pen Screen Operations The S Pen can be used for various scree n operations. • T ouch a comman d button , such as Back , or icons, such as Apps or Email, with the S Pen instead of your fing er.
Understanding Y our Device 17 S Pen Screen Capture T o capture a screen image, hold the S Pen button and press and hold the S Pe n anywhere on the scre en. Files are saved in the Screenshots folder . Notificati ons When you receive a notificat ion, the Notification icon displays in the System Bar, to the left of the time.

Understanding Y our Device 21 Status Bar The Status Bar is part of the System Bar and displays icon s to show network status, batte ry power , and other details. Battery Level : Shown fully charged. Charging Indicator : Battery is charging. Device Powe r Critical : Battery has only three perc ent power remaining.
22 Primar y Shor tcuts Primary Shortcuts dis play at the bottom of the main H ome screen. Tip: The default for the main Home screen is the center Home screen. The default Prima ry Shortcuts are: Contacts, Me ssaging, Calendar , Internet and Apps. W idgets When you first turn on your ta blet, the re are various widgets on the center Home screen.
Understanding Y our Device 23 T ouch and hold on the screen until the Home screen options pop-up dis plays and then touch Apps and widgets . 3. T ouch the Apps tab. 4. T ouch and hold the application icon until the Home screen displays, then slid e y our finger where you want to place the icon and release it.
24 R emo ving a Folder T ouch and hold the folder until the Remove icon displays, the n drag the folder to th e Remove icon. Note: Any App shortcuts in the fo lder are also removed. Wallpapers Y ou can choose a picture t o display on the Home Screen, Lock screen, or on both the Home and Lock screens.
Understanding Y our Device 25 Using the Multi Window This feature allows you to run multiple applica tions on the current screen at the same time. Note: Only applications found within the Multi wind ow panel can be active atop another current application on t he screen.
26 Note: This is a quick way to get the tab out of the way if you can’t get to a b utton or option behind it. T o relocate the Multi window apps panel: 1. Activate the Multi window fe ature. 2. T ap the tab to display the apps panel (co ntaining the scrollable ap ps).
Understanding Y our Device 27 Customizing the Multi Window a pps The applications found within th e apps panel of the Multi window can be o rganized by either being rearran ged or removed. T o rearrange the Multi window applications: 1. Activate the Multi window feature.
28 Note: Only applications found w ithin the Multi-window panel can be active a top another current application on the screen. When launching applications that contain multimedia files (music/video), audio from both files will be played simultaneously .
Understanding Y our Device 29 T o increase the size of a desired application window: 1. With the two applicat ions shown in a split screen, locate the Border bar indicating the edge of the app window . 2. In a single motion, touch and hold the Border bar then drag it to resize the desired window .

Contacts and Account s 31 Section 3: Contacts an d Accounts This section explains how to manage contact s and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a vari ety of accounts. With synchronization, informat ion on your device is updated with any information that changes in your acco unts.
32 Contacts Store contact informat ion for your friends, family , and colleagues to quickly access informa tion or to send a message. T o access Cont acts: From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts . Creating Contacts 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts ➔ .

34 Link ed Contacts Y our device can synchronize with mult iple accounts, including Google, Corporate Exchange , and other email providers. When you synchroniz e contacts from these accounts with your device, you may have multiple contacts for one perso n.

36 R enaming a Group T o rename a group that you created: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts . 2. T ouch Groups and then touch the group you want to rename. 3. To u c h Menu ➔ Edit . 4. T ouch the Group name field and use the keyboard to enter a new Group name.

Entering T ext 39 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters in to your t ablet. This section also describes the predic tive te xt entry system that reduces the amount of key strokes associated with e ntering text.

Entering T ext 41 Using Predictiv e T ext By using Predictive text, you can have next-letter prediction and regional error corr ecti on, which compensates for pressing the wrong keys on the QWERTY keyboard. Note: Enable Predictiv e text in Samsung keyboard set tings.

As you write, suggesti ons are offered in the word opt ions area in case the correct lette rs were not recognized. Messaging 45 Section 5: Messaging This section describes how to send and receive mes sages and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our device supports these types of messages: • Gmail : Send and rece ive Gmail from your Google account.
46 • At the Choose username follow the prompt s to create a new account. The Backup and restore screen displays. 3. Read the backu p and restore information, t ouch the option to enable or disable it, and then touch . 4. The device communicat es with the Google server to set up your account and synchronize yo ur email.
Messaging 47 • Change labels : Relocate the co nversation s to the Inbox , Personal , Receipts , T ravel , or Wor k folder and then touch OK . Tip : T o move a conversation t o another folder , touch and drag it to the folder tab. 3. T ouch Menu for these options: •D e l e t e : Delete t he conver sations.

Messaging 49 The device communicates with the appropriate server to set up your acco unt and synchronize your email. Wh en complete, your email appears in the Inbox for the account. Note: T o configure email account settings at any t ime, use Menu ➔ Settings .
50 • Sort by : Choose a method for l isting your email conversation s. •V i e w m o d e : Choose how to view your email convers ations. Choices are: Standa rd view and Conve rsations view. • Delete all : Delete all item s for thi s email acco unt.

Music 57 Section 6: Music This section explains how to us e the music feature s of your device including the Music app and the Music Player , and the Music Hub. Listening to Music Y ou can listen to music by using your device’s built-in speakers, through a wired headset, or through a wireless Bluetooth ste reo headset.
58 Music Player Music Player plays songs stored on your tablet or an installed memory card. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Music Player . The Music Player application searches yo ur device’s internal storage or on an installed memory card for music and playlists.
Music 59 – Music auto off : Set the option Of f or set your music to turn off automaticall y by touching one o f the ti me values. Music menu – Music menu : Enable or di sable the music di splay options t hat appear on the main musi c screen. A check mark next to an option means tha t it is enabl ed.
60 Playing a Playlist 1. T ouch the Playlist s tab. 2. T ouch Favourites , Most played , or Recently added , or touch a playlis t title that you created. 3. T ouch a song to start playin g the playlist at that song. Deleting a Playlist 1. T ouch the Playlist s tab and touch a playlist.

Connections 77 Section 8: Connection s Y our device includes features to connect to the Internet and to other devices by using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or a USB cable. Inter net Y our device is equipped with a full HTML Browser that allows you to access the Internet.
78 Using Browser Windows Y ou can have multiple windows open at one time and easily switch between win dows. 1. From a Home screen, touch Internet . 2. T o open a new window , touch at the top of the screen. 3. T o switch to another open window , touch its tab a t the top of the screen.
Connections 79 Inter net Quick Controls Use Quick Controls to maximize your viewing area while browsing the internet. 1. From a Home screen, touch Internet . 2. While viewing a webpage, touch Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Labs , and then t ouch Quick contro ls to enable the functi on.
80 T ur ning Wi-Fi On By default, your device’ s Wi-Fi feature is turned of f. Turnin g Wi-Fi on makes your device able to disc over and connect to compatible in-ra nge WAPs. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi . 2. T ap the ON/OFF slider , located to the right of the Wi-Fi field, t o turn Wi-Fi ON .
Connections 81 3. At the top of the Wi-Fi screen, tap the Wi-Fi Direct button. Y our device will begin to search for other devices enabled with Wi-Fi direct con nections. 4. Enable Wi-Fi Direct (similar to Steps 1 - 3) on th e device to which you want to connect.
82 Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology for exchanging informa tion over a distance of about 30 feet . Y ou do not need to line up the devices to send in formation with Bluetooth. If th e devices are in range, you ca n exchange information between the m, even if they are in different rooms.
Connections 83 Sharing Data with a Bluetooth De vice T o send data to a Blue tooth de vice: 1. Select a fi le or item fr om an appro priate application. 2. Select an option for s haring data with the Bluetooth feature. Note: The method for selecting an option may vary by data type.
84 Managing Downloads Files, apps, and othe r items you download via I nternet, Gmail, Email, or in other ways, are store d on your tablet’s internal storage.

From your PC, download the Samsung Kies ap plication if you don’t already hav e it. Y ou can find it at samsung.com . Warning! Close any running applications be fore connecting your device to a PC.
86 Connecting as a Mass Storage Device Y ou can connect your device to a PC as a removable disk and access the file directory . If you insert a memory card in the device, you can also access t he files directory from the memory card by u sing the device as a memory card reader .
