Your phone 11 Key (s) Descriptio n In Menu mode, scrolls through the menu optio ns and Phonebook. In Id le mo de, the Do wn key al lows you to use y our phone as a flashlight and the Up key to acce ss your favour ite menu option directly . For further details about shortcuts, see page 10 2.
Your phone 12 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and o ff whe n held down. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns the phone to Id le mode. In Idle mode, accesses your v oice mail when h eld down. Enters numbers, lett ers, and some special characters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: Icons Area Descript ion First line Displays v arious icons. See page 13. Middle li nes Displays messages, instructions, and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialling.
Your phone 14 Appears when a call is in progress. When your SIM card sup ports ALS (Al ternat ive Line Servi ce) , this icon may appe ars wit h the number 1, 2, or both. For example: , , . Appears when you are out of your service area. When it displays, yo u cannot mak e or receive a call.

16 Getting started Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular ne twork, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as y our PIN, an y optional services a vai lable, and so on.
Getting started 17 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card sock et, as shown, so that the card locks into positio n. Mak e sure the metal contacts of the card face into the phone. Note : When you need to remove the SIM card, slide it up ward s, as sh own, and tak e it out of the socket.
Getting started 18 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Mak e sure that the batter y is pro perly instal led before switching on the pow er . Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . A tra vel adapter c omes wit h your p hone for charging the battery .

When charging is f inished, unplug the adapter from the power outlet and disconnect it from the phone by pressing the bu ttons on both side s of the connector and pulling the connector out. Note : Y ou must unplug the adapter before removing the battery from the phon e during charging; otherwise, the phone could be damaged.
Getting started 20 Switching on or off the phone 1. Pr ess an d hold the key un til the phon e switches on. 2. If the phone asks you to enter a password, enter a password and press the OK soft key . The password i s preset to “0000000 0” at the fact ory .
21 Call functions Making a call When the idl e screen di splays, enter t he area code and phone number , then press the key . Note : When you activ ate the Auto redial opti on in the Extra settings men u ( Menu 4.6 ) , the phone w ill autom atically redial up to ten times when the pers on does not answer the call or is already on the phone.

Call functions 23 Making a call from Phon ebook Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memory . These entries are collect ively called P honebook. Once you hav e stored a number in Phonebook, you can dial it by pressing a few k eys.
Call functions 24 Viewing m issed calls When yo u are unable to answer a call for any reason, you can find out who c alled you so that yo u can ca ll the pe rs on ba ck. The number of calls you’ve missed disp lays on the idle screen immediatel y after a call is missed.
Call functions 25 Deleti ng a miss ed call 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. If necessary , press the Up or D own k ey to highlight the Delete option. 3. Press the Select soft key . Y ou can press the ke y at an y time to exit the Missed call feature.
Call functions 26 Quickly swit ching to Silent mode Silent mode is conv enient when y ou wish to stop the phone from making nois e, in a theatre for example . In Standby mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent m ode” messag e and the Vibr ation icon () d i s p l a y .
27 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customis e it. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus, accessed using the two soft keys, and . Each menu and sub-menu allows y ou to vi ew and al ter the sett ings of a particular functi on.
Selectin g functions and options 28 Selecting options T o view the v arious functions and options av ailable and to select the one you w ant: 1. Press the appropriate soft k ey . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft ke y .
29 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in both your SIM card and your p hone’ s memo ry . They are ph ysically s epara te but are used as a single enti ty , called Phonebook. Note : Depending on your particular SIM card, the maximum num ber of phone numbers the SIM card can store m ay differ .

Phonebook 33 Dialling a numb er from Phonebook Once you have stored phone numbers in Phonebook, y ou can dial them easily and q uickly by using the locati on numbers that were assig ned to them in Phonebook.
Phonebook 34 Speed-dialling Once you have stored phone numbers from your Phonebook list, you can set up to eight spe ed-dial entries and t hen dial th em easily whenever you want, s imply by pressing the associated numeric key . Setti ng up speed-d ial entr ies 1.

T o enter a word in T 9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the k eys 2 to 9 .

65 Options during a call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Putting a call on hol d Y ou can pl ace the current cal l on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you ha ve a call in progress if your network supports this service.
Options du ring a call 66 The current call is placed on hold and the call on hold is reactivated so that you can continue conv ersing with th at person. When you want to finish, end each call normally by pressing the key . Using the menu functions Y ou can access the main menu f unctions during a call.

78 Messages Short Mes sage Serv ice (SMS) allo ws you to send and receive short text me ssages to and from other GSM mobile phones. In addition , your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS), which enables you to inc lude simple picture s, melodies, and animated images in your messages.

92 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound settings fe ature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ring melo dy , volu me, an d type . • sounds made when you press a key , receive a message, or sw itch on or off your phone.
Soun d settings 93 Alert type (Menu 3.3) This menu allows you to specify how you are to be informed of incom ing calls or alarm s you set. The following options are av ailable: Melody : the phone rings using the selected ring tone or alarm melody . Vibration : the phone vibr ates but does no t ring.
Sound se tti ngs 94 Message t one (Menu 3. 6) This menu allows you to select how the phone informs yo u that a new message has been received . SMS tone (Menu 3 .6.1) The following options are av ailable for alerting you to new SMS m essages: Off : the phone does not use an SMS tone.
Soun d settings 95 Alert on call (Menu 3.8) This menu allows you to select whether or not the phone informs you when you receive a new message or when the time for an alarm comes during a call. The following options are av ailable: Off : the phone doesn’t active ly alert yo u to incomi ng messag es or al arms.
96 Phone settings Man y differen t featu res of y ou r phon e can be customised to suit y our preference s. All of these features are accessed in the Phone settings menu. Display s ettings (Menu 4.1) In this menu, y ou can change v arious settings for the display or bac klight.
Phone setting s 97 when you receive a call, or message, and remains on for the specif ied length of ti me. Graphi c logo (Menu 4.1. 3) This menu allows you to display your service provider ’ s logo inst ead of it s name. Off : the service provider ’ s name displays in Idle mode.
Phone se ttings 98 Own number (Menu 4.3) This function is a memory aid, w hich you can use to check your own phone n umber s if you n eed to do so. Y ou can: • assign a name to each of the o wn phone numbers registered on your SIM card. • edit the names and numbers .
Phone setting s 99 PIN check (Menu 4.5.1) When the PIN check feature is enabled, you must enter your PIN each time you switch on the phone. Consequently , any person who does not hav e your PIN cannot use your phone without your approv al. Note : Before disabling the PIN check feature , you must enter your PIN.
