Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the phone and that the angled corner of th e c ard is positioned as shown below.

With the batter y inst alled, temporar ily remove the plasti c cover on the right side of the phone and plug in the t ravel ada pter’ s co nnector into the jack.
8 Low Batter y I ndicato r When the batter y is weak and only a few minut es of talk time remain; a warni ng tone sounds and the “Battery low” messag e repeats at regular inte rvals on the display . In this condition, y our phone cons erves its remaining ba ttery power , not by turning off the backlight, but by entering the dimming mode.

Slide th e top section of th e phone up to op en, as shown. When you slide th e phone open, the d isplay rotates from a vertical viewing m ode to a horizontal viewing mode.

Understanding Y our Phone 17 Backlight A backlight illumina tes the internal display and the keypad. When you press any key , the backlight com es on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the setting within the Backlight menu.
18 3. Press the Down key to set the Dim option. Use the Left or Right Navigation key to select the time the D im mode is on. Y ou may choose: Off , 5 sec , 15 sec or 30 sec . 4. Press the Save soft key to reta in your settings. Displ ay Y our phone has a display on the front of the phone.
Call Functions 19 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes ho w to make or a nswer a call. It al so explains th e features and functionality associa ted with making o r answering a cal l. Making a Call When the idle screen displays , enter th e number you wish to dial and press the key .
20 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use the Vo lume keys on the left side of th e pho ne, to adjust the speaker volu me. 䊳 Press the Up volume key to inc rease the v olume level and the Down volume key to decrease the level. In Idle mode, yo u can also adjust the ring vo lume using these keys.
Call Functions 21 Note: While in Idle mode, press the key to access the Recent Calls . At any time while you are in Recent Calls, you can use the Left or Right Na vigation keys to scroll through All Calls , Missed Calls , Incoming Calls and Outgoing Calls call records.
22 4. Press to call the displayed number . – or – Press Vi ew to display call details. 5. Press the Options soft key fo r the following op tions: • Send Message : Allows you to send a T ext message or a Picture Message to the missed number .

24 Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys vary depending on the functi on you are currently using. The labels on the bot tom line of the display just above each key indica te their current role. In some functions, you are asked for a pass word or PIN. Enter the correct code and press the OK soft key or the key .

T o make a new ca ll while a call is in pro gress: 1. Enter the new phone number th at you wish to dial or look it up in th e Contact List.

Call Waiting The Call W aiting option mu st be set to Activate before you can answer an incoming call while anot her call is in progre ss. Y ou are then not ified of an inco ming call with a c all waiting tone.
Call Functions 29 Note: These first two calls are then grouped together on screen and displayed with an adjacent number corresponding to the order in which the calls were made. Note: There are a maximum of two callers that can be joined to a single multi-party line.

Entering T e xt 33 • T9 mode : this mode allows you to enter words with only one keystroke per letter . Each key on the keypad has more than one letter; for example, you press to enter J, or K.
34 T o shift case in T9 mode: 䊳 Press the key . There are 3 cases: Capita l lock, Initial c apital, and Lower case. Tip: Y ou can move the cursor by using the Navigation keys. T o delete charac ters: 䊳 Press the key . Press and hold the k ey to cl ear the display .
Entering T e xt 35 䊳 Press the keys corresponding to the digits you want to enter . Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuat ion marks into text. T o display a list of symbols press the key until the symbols display on the screen, or press the Right soft key and select Symbol.
36 Section 6: Messages This section describe s how to send or rece ive di fferent types o f messages. It also explains the features and functionalit y asso ciated with messaging.
Messages 37 Y ou can search through missed call s or unviewed messages by using the Right and Left navigation keys to sele ct the associated message tab, then pressing the Vi ew or Call soft key . T ext Messages Short Message S ervice (S MS) allows you to send and receive short text messages to and from other mobile phones.
38 • Insert From : allows you to insert fr om the T ext T emplates, Phon ebook, or Fav orites. The T ext templates allow you to app ly one of the prese t message temp lates to the text. Select one of the 10 it ems stored in th e Te x t Te m p l a t e s menu.
Messages 39 In addition to the famil iar text content av ai lable via tradi tional text messa ges, picture messages can contain images, graphics, voice, and au dio clips. A Picture Messaging message is a multim edia presentati on contained in a single file .

Messages 41 When you enter the Inbox, th e list of messages displays with the sender’ s phone numbers, or names, if availa ble in your Contac t List. After you re ad the message, the open envelope ic on displays. Tip: Press the Left or Right Navigation keys to scroll between Inbox , Sentbox , and Drafts .

Messages 43 •P r o p e r t i e s : displays information about the messag e, such as time and date the me ssage was received, the sender’s e-mail address or phone number , recipi ent’ s e-mail add ress or phone number , Cc, message size, priority , and class.
44 Note: The message actually displays as a missed Picture message. 2. Press the Exit soft key if you want to view the message later in the Inbox. 3. Press the Options soft key or t he key to access the v arious options described above. 4. Press the key when you are finished.

46 Creating and sending a V oice note When you access this menu, a timer displays on the screen. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Games & Ap ps ➔ Voice Re cord er and press . 2. Press the Record soft key to begin recording. 3. Record a memo by speaking in to the phone’ s microphone.

The message saves to the Sentbox after it succe ssfully sends. V oice mail This menu provides you with a way of access ing your voic e mailbo x, if provided by your network.

Browser Y our phone is equipped with a WAP (Wirel es s Application Protocol) browser which provides you wireless access and na vigation to the W eb using your phone.
