Your Phone 9 Key (s) Description In Menu mode, scroll through the menus and Phonebook. In Idle mode, allows you to access your favorite menus directly . For m ore information about shortcuts, see page 103. In Menu mode, the Left key returns to the previous menu level and the Right key selects the current menu.

Your Phone 13 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal. If this icon is gray , you are outside your network area and are restricted to emergency calls only . Appears when you are connected to the GPRS network.
Your Phone 14 Backlight A backlight illuminates the display and the k eypad. When you press any key or open the folder , the backlight turns on. It tu rns off whe n no key s are press ed within a given period of time, depending on y our setting in the Back Light menu ( Menu 4.
Your Phone 15 Service Light The service li ght is at the to p right-hand corner of the phone. It flashes when services are availabl e on the phone. T o activate or deactiv ate the use of the service light, set the Service Light menu ( Menu 4.6.4 ). See page 101 for further details.
16 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, y ou are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and many others.
Getting Started 17 ✒ Lift the batte ry away , as shown. 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card so cket so that it locks the card into place. Make sure the gold contacts of the card face into the phone.
Getting Started 18 Note : When you need to remove the SIM card , slide it , as shown, and take it out of the socket. 4. Place the battery so that th e tabs on the end align with the slots at the bottom of the phone.
Getting Started 19 5. Press the battery until it clicks into place. Make sure that the battery is prope rly installed before switch ing the phone on. Charging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . A trav el adapter comes with your phone for charging the battery .

Getting Started 21 Low Battery In dicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, you hear a w arning tone and a message repeats at regular interv als on the display . When this happens, your phone turns off the backlight to conserve the remaining b attery power .
Getting Started 22 4. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the OK soft key . For further details, see page 142. The phone searches for your network and after finding it, the idle screen, illu stra ted below , appears on the display . Now , you can make or receiv e a call.
23 Call Functions Making a Call When the idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , and press the key . Note : When you activ ate the Auto Redial option in the Extra Setting s menu ( Menu 4.7 ), the ph one automatically redials up to ten times when the person does not answer the c all or is already on the phone.
Call Functions 24 Correcting the Nu mber Ending a Call When you want to finish your call, briefly press the key . To clear Press the the last digit display ed key any other digit in the number Left or Right key until the cursor is immedi ately to the right of the digit to be cleared.

Call Functions 26 Making a Call from Phoneboo k Y ou can store frequently phone numbers that you use regularly in the SIM car d or the phone’ s memory , which are collectively called Phonebook. Simply select a name to recall the associat ed number .
Call Functions 27 Answering a Ca ll When somebody calls you, the phone rings and d isplays the incoming call animatio n. When the caller can be identifi ed, the caller’s phone number , or name if stored in your Phonebook, displays. 1. If neces sary , o pen the folder .
Call Functions 28 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unable to answ er a call for any reason, you can find ou t who is calli ng you, if this service is a vailable , so that you can call the person back. The number of calls you missed displays on the id le screen immediately after a call is m issed.

31 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customize your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed using the two soft keys marked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

34 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in your SIM card and phone’s memories. They are physically separate b ut are used as a single entity , called Phonebook.

Using Phonebook Entry Options While accessing an y Phonebook entry , press the Options soft key to use the options for the entry . The following options are available: Paste : allows you to paste the number into the normal dialing mode.
Phonebook 38 Copy : allows you to copy the numb er to another location. Y ou can select the memory and the location number . Caller Group : allows you to organize your Phoneboo k entry in caller groups so that the phone alerts you in a specific way when a person from one of your groups calls you.
Phonebook 39 The Phonebo ok entries are listed, starting with the first entry matching your input. 5. Once you hav e found the entry , press the key to dial the number , or press the Options soft k ey to access the Phonebook entry options; for further details, see page 37.

Scroll to Group Sear ch by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key . Y ou are asked to enter a group name. 3. Enter the first few letters of the group name that you wish t o fin d.

Phonebook 42 Speed-dialing Once you hav e stored phone numbers in the SIM card, you can set up to eight speed-dial entries and then dial them easily whenever you want, simply by pressing the associated number key . Setting Up Spee d-dial Entries 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Name soft key .
Phonebook 43 • Change : allows yo u to assign a different number to the key . • Erase : allows you to clear the setti ng so that no number is assigned to the key . • Erase All : allows yo u to clear the settings for all k eys so that no numbers are assigned to any of the keys.
Phonebook 44 Checking the Memory Status Y ou can check how man y names and numbers are stored in Phonebook; SIM card and phone memories. Y ou can also see the capacity of both memories. 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Name soft key . 2. Select the Memory Status option.
45 Entering Text When usi ng your phon e, you wil l often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your personal greeting or scheduling event s on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s k eypad.
Entering Text 46 • Symbol mode This mode allows y ou to enter symbols, such as punctuation marks. • Number mode This mode allows you to enter numbers. Changing the Text Input Mode When you are in a field that allows char acters to be entered, you will notice the text input mode indicator on the display .
Entering Te xt 47 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predic tive text inp ut mode that allow s you to ke y in any character using single k eys trokes. This text input m ode is based on a built-in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the to k eys.

53 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hol d whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while yo u have a call in progress if your network supports this service.
Options During a Call 54 When you want to finish, end each call normally by pressing the key . Switching the Mic rophone Off (Mute) Y ou can tempor arily switch your phone’s micro phone off , so that the other party cannot hear you.
Options During a Call 55 T o switch the microphone back on: 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. If necessary , press the Down key to highlight the Unmute option. 3. Press the OK soft k ey . The other person can hear you again. Muting/Sending Key Tones These options allow you to turn the k ey tones off or on.
Options During a Call 56 Sending DTMF Tones Y ou can send the D TMF (dual tone multi-frequency) tones when entering a number . This option is helpful for entering a password or account number when you call an automated system, like a banking service. T o send the D TMF tones: 1.
Options During a Call 57 Searching for a Number in Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Down k ey to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the OK soft k ey . The Phonebo ok entries are listed.
Options During a Call 58 Using the Message Service (SMS) If you receive an SMS (Short Message Service) message during a call, the Message icon ( ) f lashes on the display . The SMS Service option enables yo u to read the message or send a new message.
Options During a Call 59 Making a Multi-party Call A multi-party c all is a network service that allows up to six people to take part simultaneously in a multi-part y or conference call. For further details abo ut subscribing to this service, contact your service provider .

62 Using the Menus The phone offers a r ange of functions that allow y ou to tailor it to your needs. Th ese functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrolling using the Navig ation keys or by using the shortcuts.

Using the Menus 64 Accessing a Menu Function by Using Its Shortcut The menu items, such as menu, sub-menus and options, are numbered and can be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. The shortcut number is sho wn at the bottom right next to the soft key on the display .

71 Messages Short Message Service (SMS) allows y ou to send and receive short text messages to and from other GSM mobile phones. In addition, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Servic e (EMS), which ena bles you to include simple pictures, melodies, and animated images in your messages.
Messages 72 While reading a message, y ou can choose the following options by pressing the Options soft key: Delete : allows you to delete the message. Forward : allows yo u to resend the message. F or further information about how to send a message, see page 74.
Messages 73 Outbox (Menu 1.2) This message box is used to store the messages that you have already sent or will send. When yo u enter this menu, the li st of messages in the box displays w ith the recipients’ phone num bers or names, if av ailable in yo ur Phonebook.

Messages 79 Re ply Path : allows the recipient of your message to send you a reply message using your message ce nter , if your network supports this service. Deliver y Reports : allows you to activate or deact ivate the report function. When this functio n is activa ted, the network informs you whether or not your message has been delivered.

Messages 82 Voice Mail (Menu 1.8) This menu provides you with a w ay of accessing your voice mailbox , if provid ed by yo ur network. The following options are available: Connect to Voice Mail : before using the V oi ce Mail feature, you must enter the voice server number obtained from yo ur servic e provider; see Menu 1.
Messages 83 Broadcast (Menu 1.9) This network service allows you to receive text messages on various topics, such as the weather or tr affic. Cell Broadcasting (CB) messages display as soon as they are received, provid ed that: • the ph one is in Idle mode.
Messages 84 Edit : used to change the ID and title of an existing channel. Language : allows you to select your preferred language to be used when displaying cell b roadcast messages.
85 Call Records In this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received or dialed. • length of your calls. • cost of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of cal l records by pressing the key in Idle mode . Missed Calls (Menu 2.
Call Records 86 Incoming Calls (Menu 2.2) This menu lets you view the l ast 20 numbers of the calls you answe red. The number and name, if available, display , together with the date and tim e when the call was receiv ed. By pressing the Options soft key , you can: • delete the call from the list.
Call Records 87 Select a call r ecord using the Up o r Down key and press the Select soft key . When a confirming message appears, press the Yes soft k ey .
88 Sound Settings Y ou can use the Sound Settings feature to customize various settings, such as the: • ring me lody , volume and type. • sounds made when you press a key , receive a message, open/close the folder or switch your phone on/off .
Sound Setti ngs 89 Ring Volume (Menu 3.3) This menu allows you to adjust the ring volume to one of five levels. Use the Up and Down keys or the V olume k eys on the left side of the phone to inc rease or decrease the volume . Alert Typ e (Menu 3.4) This menu allows you to specify how y ou are to be informed of incom ing calls.
Sound Set tings 90 Message Tone (Menu 3.6) This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new message has been receiv ed. SMS Tone (Menu 3.6.1) The following options are available for alerting yo u to new SMS messages: Off : the phone does not use the SMS tone.
Sound Setti ngs 91 Folder Tone (Menu 3.7) This menu allows y ou to select the tone that the phone sounds when you open or close the folder . T o turn the sound off , select Off . Power On/Off (Menu 3.8) This menu allows y ou to select the melody that the phone sounds when it is sw itched on and off .
Sound Set tings 92 Extra Tones (Menu 3.9) Y ou can customize additional tones used for the phone. The following options are available: Error Tone : sets whether or not the phone informs you when you have make a mistake.
93 Phone Settings Many different features of your phone can be customized to suit your preferences. All of these features are accessed i n the Phone Setting s menu. My Settings (Menu 4.1) Y ou can change the backgro und image and the display style for Menu mode acco rding to your preference.
Phone Settings 94 3. When the image displa ys, press the Select soft key . The display asks you if you w ant to display text on the screen. 4. Press the Yes soft key to display the current date and time on the wallpaper image . T o display only the image, press the No soft key .
Phone Settings 95 Greeting Message (Menu 4.2) This menu allows you to set a greeting to be display ed briefly when the phone is switched o n. For furt her details about how to enter characters, see page 45. Own Number (Menu 4.3) This function is a memory aid, which you can use to chec k your own pho ne number if necessary .
Phone Settings 96 Language (Menu 4.4) Y ou can select a display language. When the language option is set to Automatic , the language is auto matically selected according to the language of the SIM card used.
Phone Settings 97 Change PIN (Menu 4.5.2) This feature allows you to change your current PIN to a new one, provided that the PIN Check feat ure is enabled. Y ou must enter the current PIN before you can specify a new one. Once you have ent ered a new P IN, you are a sked to confirm it by enterin g it again.
Phone Settings 98 Change Password (Menu 4.5.4) The Change Passw ord feature allows you to change y our current phone password t o a new one. Y ou must enter t he current password before you can specify a new one. The password is prese t to “00000000” at the fac tory .
Phone Settings 99 FDN Mode (Menu 4.5.6) FDN (Fix ed Dial Numb er) mode, if s upported by y our SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. The following options are available: Disable : you can phone any number .
Phone Settings 100 Display Settings (Menu 4.6) In this menu, you can change the settings for the display or backlight. Contrast (Menu 4.6.1) This menu allows you to adjust the contrast of the displa y screen to see them better in diff erent lighting conditi ons.
Phone Settings 101 Auto Light (Menu 4.6.3 ) Using this feature, you can specify the ti me for which the backlight is to be used. This feature helps you to conserv e your battery power . The following options are available: Disable : the backlight is used a ccording to the setting in the Back Light menu ( Menu 4.
Phone Settings 102 Extra Settings (Menu 4.7) Y ou can turn the automatic redialing or answering features on or off . The following options are available: Auto Redial : when this option is checke d, the phone makes up to ten attempts to redial a phone number after an unsuccessful call.
