Getting Started 5 Section 1: Gett ing Star te d This section explains how to start using your phone b y configuring yo ur hardware and setting up your voice mail. Under standing this User Manual The sections of this man u al generall y follo w the features of your phone.
6 Installing the Ba tter y R emo vi ng the B atter y Co ver 1. Remove the battery cover by placing your thumbnail in the slot at the bot tom of the phone (1). If you have fr a gile nails, use a pointe d obje ct. 2. Lift th e co ver up an d off th e phone (2).
Getting Started 7 Installing the Ba tter y 1. Align t he gold c ontacts of the ba tter y wit h the cont acts in the ba tter y compartment i n the phone (1). 2. Press th e battery down until it c lic ks in to pla ce (2). Mak e sure t hat the battery is pro perly inst alled before swit ching on the phone.
8 3. Replac e th e battery cove r onto the bac k of the phone in the direction shown by the arrow (1). 4. Press down along the botto m of the phone until y ou hear a light click (2). 5. Press down firmly along the edges to ensure that the cover is flush with the phone (3).
Getting Started 9 Char ging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion ba tter y . The T ravel Adapter t hat is used to ch arge the battery , is inc l uded with your phone. Use only Samsu ng- approved ba tteries and chargers. Y ou can use the phone while the battery is charging, although doing so requires addi tional charging t ime.
10 Importa nt!: V erify that the handset ba tter y is installed prior to connection. If the batter y is not properly installed and the wall charger is connected, the handset may power off and on continuously , preventing proper opera tion.
Getting Started 11 Switc hing the Pho ne On or Of f 1. T o turn the ph one on, pres s an d hold unti l the pho ne switc hes on. The phone launches the activation splash screen and searches for the network. Once the network has been fo und, you can make or receive calls.

Entering T ext 33 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to select the desired text entr y mode when entering characters using the Q WER TY keyboard-style keypad. This section also descri bes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes needed t o enter text.

36 Usin g T9 Predictiv e T ext The T9 Predi ctive T ext inp ut me thod is ba sed on a built-in dict ionary . A series of keystrokes is interpreted by the ph one using this dictionar y to determine the l ikely word. 1. Press Optio ns ➔ Te x t M o d e ➔ T9 Predictive T ext .
Entering T ext 37 Add a Ne w W or d into the T9 Dictionar y 1. After pressing the keys corresponding to th e word you want to add, you can search for the word by using the touchpad (up/down). 2. When t he last altern ative word displays, Spell displays.

50 Adding Pa uses to Contact Nu mb ers When you call autom a ted systems, you are often requir ed to en ter a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbe rs each ti me, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special characters call ed pauses.
