Getting Started 5 Section 1: Gett ing Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by configuring yo ur hardware and setting up your voice mail. Under standing this User Manual The sections of this man u al generall y follo w the features of your phone.
6 Installing the Ba tter y R emo vi ng th e Bat ter y C o v er 1. Remove the battery cover by placing your thumbnail in the slot at the bot tom of the phone. If you have fra gil e nails, use a pointed object. 2. Lift the cover u p and off th e phone. Installing the B atter y 1.

8 Char ging a Ba tter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion b a tter y . The T ravel Adapter that is used to charge the batter y , is incl uded with your phone. Use only Samsung- approved batteries and chargers. Y ou can use the phone while the batter y is charging, alth ough doing so requires additi onal charg i ng tim e.
Getting Started 9 Important !: V erify that the handset ba tter y is installed prior to connection. If the batter y is not properly installed and the wall charger is connected, the handset may power off and on continuously , preventing proper operation.
10 Switc hing the Phone On or Of f 1. T o turn the phone on, press and hold or until the phone s witches on. The ph one launches the activation spl ash screen and searches for the network. Once the network has been found, you can make or receive calls.

20 Bac klight A backlight il lumina tes the internal display and the ke ypad. When you press any key , t he backli ght com es on. It goes o ff when no keys are pr essed within a given period of time, depending on the setting in the Backlight Time menu.

Menus and sub-menus can be accessed by sc rolling using the Navigation keys or by usin g the shortcut keys. Acce ssing a M enu 1. 22 Usin g Shor tcut Num bers Numbered menu items, such as menus, su b-menu s, and option s can be quickly accessed by using thei r shortcut nu mbers. In Menu mod e , Main Menus can be accessed by pressing the number keys (1 to 0, * and #) correspond ing to thei r loca tion on the screen.

Entering T ext 33 Section 4: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select the desired text entr y mode when entering characters using the Q WER TY ke yboard-style keypad. This section also descri bes ho w to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key stroke s needed to enter text .

42 Using Message Options Message options at the Inbox level differ a ccordi ng to the message type, what you have done with th e me ssage, and whether you are viewing the message.
Messages 43 Deleting Messa ges When your phone’ s memor y is full, an n o tific atio n messa ge di splays and you cannot receive an y new messages. Use th e Del ete opti on to erase obsolete messages, freeing memor y for new messa ges. Y ou can delete th e me ssages either individually or all at on e time.
44 Mu lt imedia Me ssa ge The follo wi ng Multimed ia message options are a vai lable: • Delivery Options : – Priority : you can select the prior ity level o f your messages. – Expiration : sele ct the length of time y ou wish the me ssa ge you sent to remain on th e MMS ser ver .

50 Adding P auses to Contac t Num bers When you call autom a ted systems, you are often requir e d to en ter a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbe rs each time, you c an store the numbers in your Contacts along with special charac ters called pauses.
Managing Y our Contacts 51 Using Contacts Dia l in g a Numb er fr om Contac ts Once you have stored phone numbers in Co ntacts, you can dial them by using their SIM card location number or by using th e Search fiel d to loca te the entr y .
52 Contacts Entr y Options T o access the Contacts opti ons, follow the se steps: 1. Press Menu ➔ Conta cts ➔ Contacts and select an e ntr y from the list and press the key . 2. Press Optio ns and select from the following: •E d i t : al lows yo u to make changes to the co ntact informati on.
Managing Y our Contacts 53 FDN Mode FDN (F ixed Dialing Nu mber) mode, if supported by your SIM card, restricts your outgoing calls to a limited se t of phone numbers. When th is feature is e nabled, yo u can make ca lls only to phone numbers stored in the FDN li st on the SIM c ard.

Not e: If the entr y’ s associated Group ima ge has a SIM location icon on it, then the entr y exists on the SIM card.
