Getting star ted 10 U sing the SIM or USIM card and ba tter y Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . • Only microSIM car ds work with the device .
Getting star ted 11 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 12 4 Replace the back cov er . • Ensure that the back c over is closed tigh tly . • Use only Samsung-appro ved back co vers and accessories with the device . Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over .
Getting star ted 13 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out. Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the ba tter y by connecting them via the USB cable.
Getting star ted 14 Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor and then plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack . • Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .
Getting star ted 15 After fully charging , disconnect the device from the charger . First unplug the char ger from the device , and then unplug it from the electric socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the charger . This may damage the device .
Getting star ted 16 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 128 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device .
Getting star ted 17 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 18 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 19 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
20 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 21 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 22 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 23 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. I t display s widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.

Basics 25 Using My Magazine My Magazine displays liv e social net work updates and new s that you are inter ested in. On the Home screen, tap or scroll right to open My Magazine . Acc ess additional options. T o select the content to be displa yed , tap → Settings , and then select the categories that inter est you.
Basics 26 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.
Basics 27 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Ent er the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passw ord if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 44 T ethering and Mobile hotspot About tethering and mobile hotspots Use this f eature t o share the device ’ s mobile data connection with computers and other devices if an Internet connection is unavailable . Connections can be made via the Wi-F i , USB, or Bluetooth.
Network connectivit y 45 Using USB t ethering Share the device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices via a USB cable . 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → T ethering and Mobile hotspot . 2 Connect your device t o the computer via the USB cable .

P ersonalising 62 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prevent others fr om accessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 63 P rivate mode About priva te mode Use this mode to pr event others from using or acc essing specific conten t, such as images and documents, st ored on the device . Y ou can save conten t to a specific location and deactivate private mode to hide it ems securely .
P ersonalising 64 V iewing hidden cont ent Y ou can only view hidden items when private mode is activated. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Priv ate mode , and then tap the Priv ate mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap Priv ate mode to activate it.
P ersonalising 65 T r ansf erring data fr om your pr evious device Using backup ac counts Y ou can transfer backup data from y our previous device to y our new device using your Google or Samsung account. Ref er to Backing up and restoring data for mor e information.

P ersonalising 67 Setting up acc ounts A dding acc ounts Some apps used on your device r equire a r egister ed account . Creat e accounts t o hav e the best experience with your devic e. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Ac counts → Add ac count and select an account ser vice .
68 Phone Mak ing calls T ap Phone on the Apps screen. T ap Keypad , enter a phone number , and then tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call. Y ou can also make calls to phone numbers listed in Logs , F av ourites , and Con tacts . Acc ess additional options.
Phone 69 Mak ing calls from call logs or c ontac ts list T ap Logs or Con tacts , and then drag a contact or a phone number to the right to make a call . T o deactivate the call by dragg ing an icon to the right f eature, tap → Settings → Con tacts , and then deselect Swipe t o call or send msg .
Phone 70 Number prediction T ap Keypad . When entering numbers on the keypad , automatic pr edictions appear . Selec t one of these to make a call. Speed dial numbers T ap Keypad .
Phone 71 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If a call notification pop -up window appears while y ou are using an app , tap Answ er in the pop-up window . If the call waiting ser vice is activated, another call can be answ ered .
Phone 72 Options during calls During a voic e call The f ollowing actions are available: • : Increase the volume . • Add call : Dial a second call. • Keypad : Open the keypad. • End call : End the current call . • Speaker : Activate or deactivate the speakerphone .

Contacts 75 3 Place a business car d on the flat sur face. 4 Adjust the devic e to fit the card inside the fr ames on the screen. When the frames turn green, the devic e automatically takes a photo . The device also r eads the contac t information fr om the business card and conv er ts it to a contact entr y .

Camera 85 • The camera aut omatically shuts off when unused. • Make sure that the lens is clean. Other wise, the device may not w ork properly in some modes that requir e high resolutions. • The fron t camera lens is suitable f or tak ing wide -angle photos.

Camera 91 HDR (Rich tone) Use this mode to take phot os with rich colours and repr oduce details even in bright and dark areas . On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE → HDR (Rich tone) . Y ou can view the photos and videos on the devices that ha ve the cont ent sharing feature activated . Multimedia 102 T o listen to songs at equal v olume levels, tap → Settings , and then tick Smar t volume . When Smar t volume is activated, the v olume may end up louder than the device volume lev el. Use caution t o av oid long-term exposure t o loud sounds to prev ent damage to your hearing .
Multimedia 103 Pla ying music by mood Use this f eature t o play music that suits y our mood. T ap Music on the Apps screen. T ap → Music square . Songs are automatically ca tegorised by mood. T ap a mood cell or dr ag multiple cells to list en to the music in the cells .
