3 Getting to know y our phone Antenna The antenna is a de vice f or transmitting and receiving signals. The length of the antenna is deter mined in par t b y your phone’ s operating frequency . For best signal quality , use the antenna in the fully extended position and do not touch the antenna when the phone is active.
4 Talk key The ke y perf orms sev eral useful functions: • Press once to ans wer calls. • Enter a number and press to initiate a call. • Press twice in standby mode to re dial the last outgoing number . Navigation ke y The Navigation ke y allows y ou to toggle up , down, left, or right th rough various menu options.
5 Space key Press to e nter a space while writing a messag e, thereby accepting a word and moving on to spell another . Ke ypad Use the ke ypad to enter te xt, numbers, and symbols.
6 V olume up/down ke y 1. Press the volume k e y , ( ) on the left side of your phone up or down to adjust the ringer volume. Note: Y ou can also press and hold the up or down v olume key to reject an incoming call.
7 Roaming : Indicates y ou are in r oa mi n g mode . Vibrate mode: Indicates that an incoming call will make the phone vibrate rather than r i n g. High speed data: Indicates your phone is sending or receiving data at a high speed. Battery strength: Indicates the amount of power remaining in your batter y .
8 Installing and removing the battery Y our phone comes with a re c hargeable standard Li-Ion batter y and tra vel adapter . Fully charge your phone bef ore first use or you ma y damage the batter y . When you first attach the charger to the phone, the LED indi cator on the phone will tur n red.
9 Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeab le standard Li-Ion batter y . Only use Samsung-approved adapters and batteries, which are designed to maximize batter y life. Using other adapters ma y inv alidate y our warranty and cause damage.
10 The empty battery icon T wo to three minutes bef ore the batte ry charge lev el becomes too low to operate the phone, a blinking an empty batter y icon ( ) appears in the display , and a tone sound s. If you continue to operate the phone without charging the batter y , the phone shuts down.
11 Y our phone’ s modes Call Answer mode Y ou can select how to answer y our phone when receiving a call. The three methods for ans wering calls are: Input mode Use input mode to enter text, numbers and symbols into various screens. Lock mode When you lock y our phone usi ng the Lock Mode menu option, you restrict phone usage.
12 • After you po wer it on. • When you press after a call. When in standby mode, y ou will see the follo wing in the display: • The time, da y , and date as well as all other active icons . While in standby mode, enter a phone number , and press to call.
13 Vibrate mode T o set your phone to Vibrate when you receiv e an incoming call: 1. Press and hold the down arrow of the volume k e y ( ) until Vibrate appears in the display . The volume k ey is located on th e left side of phone, ne xt to the display .
14 Getting Star ted Obtaining service Contact your service provider and f ollow their instructions for obtaining ser vice. We suggest that you read this user guide to understand the ser vices wh ich your phone suppor ts . T urning your phone on 1. Fully extend the antenna f or clearest reception.
15 Making and answering calls Outgoing 1. With your phone on, enter the phone number you want to call (up to 32 digits) using the keypad. The phone numbers displa y from left to right.
16 Y our phone provides the following v oice call notification features: • Eight ring volume settings including 1- beep , vibrate, ringer off or high + vib • Ring types and melody tones • Name display with Caller ID . (If the caller’s name is programmed into y our Phone Book.

18 Launch P ad Launch pad allows you to toggle , press , or press and hold whil e in sta ndby mode or in a call to launch cer tain applicatio ns. Note: Launch pad applications can be customiz ed. See “Setup launch pad” on page 75 for instructions.
19 Call History Y our phone keeps a record of up to 10 of the last Outgoing, Incoming, and Missed calls in memor y . Call History works only when your phone is active and service is availab le. Outgoing Outgoing Calls are those that were diale d from your phone.
20 T o erase all Calls: 1. In standby mode, press f or Erase History . 2. Press f or all All Calls . 3. T oggle to Ye s to erase all your call directories, or No to cancel. 4. Press to acknowledge your selection. Erasing Outgoing calls: 1. In standby mode, press f or Erase History .
21 T otal Calls T otal calls is the cumulative amount of time the phone has been used since the T otal Calls was last erased. Air time f or all incoming and outgoing calls is sav ed here. This f eature is not intended for billing purposes. T o view Air Time for Last Call or T otal Calls: 1.
22 Phone book Y our phone can store up to 2 49 names an d numb ers in its Phone Book. Each memor y location can hav e up to six numbers, one e-mail address, and one URL address. Each number can be up to 32 digits in length (including pauses), and the name can be up to 12 characters in length.
23 Adding new entries 1. In standby mode, press fo r Add New Entry . 2. Enter the phone number for the entr y and press . 3. T oggle to select the number type, such as mobile home, or work and pr ess . 4. Enter a name f or the entry and press . Note: Press to return to the previous menu at any time.

Options are:. • Deferred delive r y : Allows you to decide when you w ant your message to be sent. • Delivery Acknowledge : If this is set to Request Ack, you will be notified if the message was successfully delivered.

43 Receiving a messag e in standby mode When your phone receives incoming messages in standby mode, the ringer sounds, (unless it is tur ned off), and New V oicemail, New T e xt, Ne w P age or New Browser Msg appears in the display . The message icon is displayed, and remains so until y ou list en to or read the ne w message .
44 •A light blue message number means the message has been read. •A purple message number means the message is urgent. 4. Y ou can press f or Outbox . A list of sent messages displays . •A red message number means the message f ailed and was not sent successfully .
45 2. F or Te x t messages, toggle up or down to highlight the message you wish to revie w , press to open. 3. Press to view the f ollowing options: • Reply : allows y ou to reply to the sender . The phone accesses the New Message menu and copies the sender’ s originating address to the Send T o field.
46 Three way calling 1. Call the first par t y , and press . When connected, ask them to remain on the line, press and they will be placed on hold. 2. Call the second phone number , and press . 3. When the second par ty ans w ers, press and all par ties are connected.
47 The Wireless W eb Y our phone comes equ ipped with Wireless Web Internet access through a browser . Y ou can view specially designed versions of popular sites , which include spor ts, weather , news , stock quotes, etc.

Bro wser start and end prompts Y our phone can be set to view a prompt each time y ou star t or end a browser session.
50 Navigating the web When you use the bro wser , some of the keys on y our k e ypad will operate differently than dur ing a nor mal phone call. The browser presents on-screen items in the following w.
51 Numbers 1 - 9: If items on a menu are numbered, these keys can be used to select them. END: Press this key to exit the browser and return the phone to standby mode. MENU: This key can be used to enter the browser menu at any time. Ta l k : This key can be used to send a call.
52 Calendar With Calendar , y ou can schedule and set aler t reminders f or e vents and tasks, enter memos , set alar ms, vie w the current time for any par t of the worl d, and more. 1. In standby mode, press f or Ca lendar . 2. T oggle down to highlight a f eature.

54 Month View Month View allows y ou to view a past, current, or future month in calendar format. In Scheduler , the current date is highlighted on the calendar . Da ys with scheduled ev ents are also highlighted, although in a different shade of color than the current date.
55 T ask list T ask List allows you to compile and priori tize a “to do” list. Y our phone can store up to 20 T ask List items. Creating a task lis t ite m : 1. In standby mode, press for T ask List . • After a brief pa use, the New T ask screen appears in the display .

61 Adding or erasing a count do wn timer 1. In standby mode, press fo r Countdown . Countdown timers di splay in order of the least amo unt of time remaining until the s pecified countdown date. 2. Press to open the options submenu. 3. T oggle to select be tween Add new , Erase , or Erase All .
62 V oice dial Using V oice Dial requires that you first progr am the phone to recognize the name of the person you are calling. Note: Y ou can store only one v oice dial entry per name . Tips on recording names • A void rec ording names that so und similar.
63 3. Respond to the prompt by repeating the name exactly as you did the first time. The phone stores the name as a second sample and then requests the p hone number . 4. Enter the phone number using the ke ypad. Press to sav e the number . The screen returns to the V oice Dial menu.

65 Sounds Ringer options Y our phone provides a variety of ringer op tio ns through the Sounds menu. These options allow y ou to customize the w a y your phone sounds when you receiv e a call, message , a data or f ax call, or when a scheduled ev ent occurs.

73 Backlight The LCD and ke ypad backlights illuminate your displa y and ke ypad whene ver y ou open the flip or press a ke y . Y ou can set the backlight to shut off after a short per iod of time, to ne ver come on at all, or to remain illuminated as long as you keep the flip open.

77 Set NAM This setting allows you to associate y our mobile identification number (MIN) to your phone’ s electronic ser ial number (ESN). 1. Press for the Set NAM menu. 2. T oggle to highlight NAM 1 or NAM 2 . 3. Press to sa ve . Set System Y ou can change syste m settings on your phone to control roaming preferences.
78 T o use digital d ata or fax serv ices with your phone, you will need to obtain a digital data/fax kit from your servi ce provider . This kit contains the nece ssar y cables, software , and documentation required for y ou to connect and use your phone with your computing de vice.
79 Note: Once you have set y our phone’ s mode to fax for next call, you cannot receive regular voice calls until you change back to voice calls only , or a fax is received. Ending a fax or data ca ll Some of the common ways to end a call, like closing the phone, will not end a f ax or data call.
