Getting Started 6 2. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket until the car d locks into place . Make sure that the card’ s gold contacts face into the phone and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown. Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card.

19 Missed Messages T ab When you receive new messa ges, icons display in two loc ations: on the phone’ s scre en, Missed messages tab, and on the icon bar at the top of the screen. Icons This list identifies the sy mbols that appear on your phone’s display screen: Shows the received signal strengt h.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 Displays when a new text message is received. Displays when a new voi cemail is received . Displays when a new Picture message , or Audio postcard is received. Displays when you set an alarm to ring at a specified time. For more details, see “Alarm” on page 95.
21 Backlight A backlight il luminates the in te rnal display and the keypad. When you press any key, the backlight comes on . It goes off when no keys are pressed wi thin a give n perio d of time, de pending on the setting within the Backlight menu. The display turns off after one minute to conserve battery po wer .

23 Access ing a M enu Functi on by Scrol ling 1. In Idle mode, press Menu . 2. Scroll using t he Navigation keys t o reach a ma in menu (for example: Se ttings ). Press Select or to enter the menu. 3. If the menu contains sub- menus, (for example, P ersonalize) , after highlighting the sub menu, press Select or .
Call Functions 24 Section 4: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a ca ll. It also explains the f eatures and funct ionality asso ciated with making or answering a call . Making a Call When the idle screen displays , enter th e numb er you want to dial and press .

Call Functions 26 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, th e phone rings and displays the in coming call image, if the im age is stored in Contacts. The caller’ s phone number , or name if stored in Contacts , displays. 1. Press or the Accept soft key to answer the incoming ca ll.
27 Missed calls This menu lets you view the 30 most rece nt calls you received, bu t did not answer . The name and number , if already stored in your Contacts list, displays with the number of occurrences for each number .
Call Functions 28 Note: Y ou can press at any time to exit the Missed calls feature. Dialed calls This menu allows you to view the 30 most recent call s you dialed. The name and num ber , if alrea dy stored in Contacts, displays with the number of occurrences for each number .
29 Vibr ation Mode Vibrate mode is con venient when you want to stop the phone from m aking any noise (in a theater for exampl e). In Idle mode, pre ss and hold the key until the “ Vibration mode on ” message and the Vi bration profile icon ( ) displays.
Call Functions 30 3. Viewing the next function or highlighting the next opti on on a list, by pressing the Down Navigation key . 4. Moving back to the previous function or option on a list, by pressing the Up key . 5. Moving back up one level in the menu structu re, by pressing th e Back soft key .
31 T o make a new call while a ca ll is in progre ss: 1. Press Options ➔ New call and press Select or . 2. Enter the new phone number that you want to dial or press Search to look up the number .

Call Waiting The Call waiting option must be set to Activ ate before you can answer an inco ming call while another call is in progress.
33 Having a Private Con versation W ith One Par ticipant When there a re two partic ipants in a mu lti-party session, it mig ht be necessary to pla ce one of those partici pants on hold so that a private conversation can be held with a single caller .

35 Finding a Contact Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corres ponding names in the phone ’s built-in memo ry (C on tac ts) . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Pe o pl e ➔ Contacts and press Select or . 2. Enter the first few letters of the name in the text bo x.
Understanding Peopl e 36 •D e l e t e : allows you to delete th e selected name and number from your Contacts. You are then asked t o confirm th e name and number d eletion by pressing the Ye s soft key . Press the No soft key to cancel the deleti on.
37 7. Locate the new gro up name and press Options ➔ Edit , then highlight the Picture ID field and press to select an imag e for this new caller group. Select fr om one of the follo wing options: • T ake picture : allows you to take a picture to use as this caller ID.
Understanding Peopl e 38 Speed Dialing Once you store phone numbers from your Contacts list, you can set up to 8 speed dial entries and th en easily dial them whenever you want, by pres s ing the associated numeric key . 䊳 In Idle mode, to speed di al the num bers assigned to keys (2 to 9), press and hold the a ppropriate key .
39 4. Press Save once a recipien t or group is selected. T o Remove a number from the Block List: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ Block list and press Select or . 2. Highlight the number(s) to remove and press . My Profi le My Profile allows you to create a virt ual business card.
Understanding Peopl e 40 Default sa ving The Default saving option allows you to c hoose where your co ntacts are saved. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ Management ➔ Default saving option and press Select or . 2. Highlight one of the follo wi ng options then press Select: • Phone : new phonebook cont acts are saved to your phone.
41 Deleting all of the Contacts Entries Perform the following procedure t o delete al l your entries from your phone’ s memor y . Import ant!: Once Contacts entries are deleted, they cannot be recovered. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ People ➔ Managem ent ➔ Delete all and press Select or .
Understanding Peopl e 42 Using the FDN list FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by y our SIM card , allows you to re strict your outgoing ca lls to a limited set of phone numbers. The FDN List allows you to set up a list of numbers yo ur phone may dial.
43 Section 6: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select the desired text input mode wh en entering characters into your phone. Th is section also des cribes h ow to use the T9 pred ic tive text system to reduce the number of key s t rokes associate d with entering text.
Entering T ext 44 3. Symbol/Shift press the Alt key and this key to display the Symbols page. Choo se from an extensive list of symbols and other character sets. Shift converts the a lphabetic c haracter into u ppercase. Changes the text input mode to Upper/ Lower case mode.
45 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using you r phone, you often ne ed to enter t ext, such as wh en storing a nam e in Contacts, creati ng your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter al phanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering T ext 46 Important!: The handset does not maintain text input mode settings when switched from portrait to landscape mode. The following opt ions are availabl e in Portrait and Landscape mode: • T9 (English) • Alpha • Number • Symbol 2.
47 T o shift case in T9 mode: 䊳 Press . There are 3 cases: Capital lock, Initial capit al, and Lower case. Tip: Y ou can move the cursor by using the Navigation keys.
Entering T ext 48 Ke ys By default, the first le tter of an entr y is capi talized an d all consecutive lette rs are kept in lowerca se (unless the key is used). After a character is entered, the cursor aut omatically advanc es to the next space after tw o seconds or when you enter a ch aracter on a different key .
49 Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuation marks into text. T o display a list of symbols: 1. Press until the symbols displa y on th e screen, or press the Right soft key and se lect Symbol . 2. Press the corresponding numbe r key to select a symbol then sel ect the OK soft key .

53 Picture Messa ge This me nu allo ws you to cr eate a new pictur e messa ge and then send it to on e or more destinations. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Create message .
Messaging 54 •M o r e : allows you to add a page, delete a page, add a subject, add an a ttachment, edit the style, change to text message, access sending options, or select a language for this message. •S a v e t o : save th e mess age to you r Drafts or T emplates folder .
55 • Move to phone/SIM card : allows you to move the message from the SI M card into th e phone’ s memory or from the phone ont o the SIM card. De pends on where the current message was saved. •S o r t b y : allows you to sort message s by Read/Unre ad, Date , Name, T ype, Subject, or Si ze.

Messaging 58 •T i m e r : allows you to s et a time delay before the c amera takes the photo. Select t he leng th of delay y ou want (Off, 3 s econds , 5 seconds, or 10 seconds) . When you pre ss the Camera key or key , the camer a takes the photo after the specified t ime elapses.
59 IM (Instant Messaging) Instant Messaging is a way of sending short, simple mes sa ges that are de livered real time to users online. Before using this fea ture, you need to subscribe to a messenge r service. Y our handset has 3 pre-loaded Messaging services (AIM, Windows Live Messenger , and Y ahoo!).
Messaging 60 •L o c k / U n l o c k : allows you to loc k the sele cted me ssage to protect it fr om delet ion, or unlo ck it to allow delet ion. Drafts This message box stores messages that you can edit or send at a later time. When you enter this menu, the lis t of messages in the box displays.
61 Te m p l a t e s Besides entering message text using the keypad keys, you can sp eed mess age compositi on by inc luding copies of stored text (T emplates) in your me ssage. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ T emplates and press Select or .

Picture messa ge The following Send settings are available: • Delivery report : when this option is enabled, th e network informs you whether your message was delivered.

73 Camera Shortcuts Y ou can change options using your keypad in capt ure mode. The follow ing shortcuts are avai lable: Photos 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Media ➔ Photos ➔ Photos . When you access this menu, your pho ne displays the photos in Line view , which shows them as small images.

Bluetooth 90 Section 11: Bluetooth This section explains how to operate the Bluetooth feature on this handset. Bluetooth About Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wire less communications technolo gy capable of exchanging in formation over a distance of about 30 feet without requ iring a physical connection.

93 Section 12: Organizer The Organizer allows you to set alarms, schedule a ppointments, view the calendar , create T asks, perform simple math calculations, chec k worl d time, perform unit conv ersions, set a timer , and use a stopwatch. Calendar With the Calendar feature, you can: • Consult the calendar by month, week, o r day .
Organizer 94 Day view With the Day vi ew displayed, press the Options soft ke y to display th e following options: • Create new : allows you to create an Schedule, Anniversary , Miscellaneous, or T o do. • Vi ew m od e : allows you to select Month view or Week view .
95 Miscellaneous Event Allows you to create an Anniversary event. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Organizer ➔ Calendar ➔ Miscellaneous and pre ss Select or . 2. Press Options ➔ Create new and press . 3. Enter the Miscellane ous event name in the Subject field.
Organizer 96 – Alarm 3 : Activate the alarm, s et the Alarm time, Da ys of the week, and Alarm tone for this alarm. – Auto power up : alarm rings at the spec ified time even if the phone is turned off. I f the option is set to Off , the alarm does not ring.
97 Notes Y ou can enter notes to he lp you stay organized. 1. From Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Organ izer ➔ Notes and press . 2. Press OK to create a new Note. 3. Enter the note and press to save it. – or – Press Options to select a langua ge for this note or to cancel note creation.
Organizer 98 Note: Press to enter a decimal point for the exact dollar amount. 3. Use the Down Navigation key to highlight Tip (%) percentage. 15 is the defaul t value but you can change this value. The Tip ($) field value calc ulates according to the values ent ered.
