Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to get started wi th your phone by installing and charging the batter y , installing th e SIM card and optional memo ry card, a nd setting up your voice mail.
6 Installing the SIM card: 1. Carefully slide t he SIM card into the SI M card socket until the card clicks into place. Ma ke s ure that the card’ s gold contacts face into the phone and that the upper -left angled corner of the card is positioned as sh own.
Getting Started 7 R emo ving the Memor y Card 1. Remove the phone’ s back cover . 2. Gently pres s the edge of the mem ory card with your thumbnai l until y ou hea r a c lick so und (rel easing the card from the slot), the n pull the memor y card out of th e slot.
8 R em o ving the Batter y 䊳 Grip the battery at the top end (1) and lift it up and out (2). Charging the B atter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li -ion battery . A wall charger , which is used for charging the batter y , is included with your phone.

Locking a nd Unlock ing the Phone By default, the phone locks when the backlight turns off. 䊳 Swipe the gl ass on the front of the screen to the right to unlock the phone. Note: Y ou can choose to configure lock settings to prevent unauthorized use of your phone.

18 Indicates that the Flight Mo de is active. Y ou cannot send or receiv e any calls or ac cess onlin e information. Displays when there is no SIM card in the phone. Displays when there is a system error or al ert. Displays when a call is in progress.

20 Clearing Notifications T o clear all notifications fro m the Notifica tion panel: 1. From the Home screen, touch th e Notification Bar unti l the pull-down displays, then drag down vertically . 2. T ouch Clear all . The notifications are cl eared from the panel.

28 Messaging This application allows you to use the Short Me ssage Service (SMS) to send and re ceive short text messages to and from othe r mobile phones. Y ou can als o use the Multi Medi a Service (MMS) to c reate multimedia messages to send and receive from other mobile phones.

Memory Card 39 Section 3: Memor y Card Y our device lets you use a microSD ™ (SD) or microSDHC ™ card (also ref erred to as a me mory card) to expand availa ble mem ory space. This secure digi tal ca rd enable s you to exc hange images, music, and data betw een SD-compatible devi ces.

Call Functions and Contacts List 43 Prefix Dialing When acti vated, this fe ature au tomatically prepends a string of numbers (such as an area code ) to any dialed number . This feature is usef ul for in ternational dia ling, or di aling withi n an area code where a ll the c alls you mak e for a peri od of tim e use one prefix.
44 Using the V oice Dialer V oice dialer is a voic e recogni tion soft ware used t o activate a wide variety of functi o ns on your phone. 1. From the Home screen, tou ch ➔ V oice Dialer . 2. When the Voice Dialer displays the “Listening” prompt, say one of the fo llowin g commands: • “Call J ohn D oe” • “Call John Doe at home,.

Call Functions and Contacts List 51 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unable t o answer a ca ll for an y reason, you can find out who is calling you, if th is service is a vailabl e, so that you can call the person back. The number of calls you missed displays on the home screen immediately af ter a call is misse d.
52 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlin es how to select the desired text input mode when entering characters into your ph one. This section also describes how to use the Swype key board to ease the text entry method.
Entering T e xt 53 Swype T ext Entr y Tips Y ou can access the SwypeT ips application and watch a video or tutorial on using Swype. Y ou ca n also use the follo wing Swype text entry tips. • Create a squiggle (like an S shape) to create a double letter (such as pp in apple).

56 Using XT9 Pr edictiv e T ext XT9 is a predictive text system th at has next-letter prediction and regional error correct ion, which compensates for users press ing the wrong keys on 3x4 keyboards. 1. Holding the phone in Portrait orie ntatio n, touch at t he bottom of the screen.

Contacts 59 Finding a Contact Y ou can store phone nu mbers a nd their corresponding names onto either your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memory . They are physically separate but are use d as a single entity , called Contacts.
60 Linking Contact Inf or mation Most people now mainta in multiple email accounts, soc ial networking login s, and other si mila r account info rmation. F or example, a Fa cebook a ccount logi n name mig ht differ from a corporate em ail acco unt login because the y are ma intain ed separately and for differ ent groups of people.

86 Files Files allows you to manage your sounds, imag es, videos, bluetooth files, Androi d files, and other memo ry card da ta in one conven ient location. 䊳 From the Home screen, tou c h ➔ Files . The following fo lders display: DCIM DCIM is the default l ocation fo r pictures taken by the device.

90 Creating a Playlist Before you can create a playlist you must navigate to the Music Library . From the Music Library screen, press ➔ Settings ➔ Music menu and touc h th e Playlist checkbox. 1. From the Home screen, tou c h ➔ Music Player . 2.
Multimedia 91 5. T ouc h the Name field for the se lected playlist, ente r a new name for the play list then touch Done , then touch Save . Playing Music Files Y ou can play an individual track of music, or you can select music from a playl ist, or play an e ntire Album.
92 4. T ouch the checkbox nex t to each music file you wa nt to delete, then touch Delet e . The music file (s) deletes. Assigning Music Files Y o u can choose to assign music files as a ringt one, Individual ringtone, or Alarm tone. Songs used for these types of assignments must be copie d to the phone.
Multimedia 93 Y ouT ube Y ouT ube is a video sharing website on which use rs can upload and share videos, and view them in MPEG-4 format. 1. From the Home s c reen, touch ➔ Y ouT ube . 2. When the screen loads you can begin searching and viewing posted videos.

Applications and Devel o pment 95 AllShare This application wirelessly sync ronizes your Sa msung mobile phone with your TV , streams co ntent and even keeps tabs on who calls or sends text message s with real-time, on-screen monitoring. Samsung’ s AllShare make s staying connected easy .
96 Buddies Now When you add contacts using the Buddies now screen the contacts are marked as Favorite s and display on this screen. Any updates made to their priv ate networking applications displays here, and you ca n comment or cal l them with one t ouch.
