Plug the A C adapter into the lo wer front of the mac hine. T o st art using y our Sc hwinn ® elliptical trainer , stand on the f oot pedals, with the front of y our shoes close to the front edge of the foot platform. Place your hands at a comfortable position on the upper body arms.

Computer Feat ur es n LCD Display The large LCD (Liquid Cr y st al Display) screen located in the center of the console is your information center . This displa y is divided into sections that provide information about y our w orkout and an y preset information you ma y ha ve inp ut i nto the com pu te r .
USING THE 431 C OMPUTER n LCD Display Descr iptions TIME Display s the work out TIME. The TIME will count down from the TIME you entered when beginning the program and shows the TIME remaining for y our workout. INTERV AL TIME Display s the INTERV AL TIME.
USING THE 431 C OMPUTER n A uto Shut-Off (Sleep Mode) The console will automatically shut of f in approximately 2 minutes without use or input. There is no on/off switc h. (Press any but ton to pow er up the console and “ENTER PRO GRAM ” appears in the alphanumeric displa y .

Calor ie Goal: The Calorie Goal f eature lets y ou select an amount of Calories you would like to burn during your work out. When selecting “CAL ORIE GO AL ” , use the UP and DO WN buttons to select the amount of Calories you wish to “burn ” from 1 0 to 990.

CONSOLE OPERA TION n Console Operation – Quick Start QUICK S T ART : Press QUICK S T ART to take you immediately to the Manual program. R esistance le vel will be Lev el 1 . Time will start from 00:0 0 and count up. Changing Lev els: Y ou can increase or decrease the resistance level by pressing the UP or DOWN but tons at any time.

Select Pr ogram: P ress any but ton to pow er up the console and “ENTER PROGRM” appears in the alphanumeric display . T o access the heart rate c on- trol programs, scroll through the displa y by using the UP o r DOWN b ut tons until y ou reac h “H R C” then press ENTER .
Changing Lev els: Y ou can only increase or decrease the resistance lev el by pressing the UP or DOWN but tons when in the first interval column whic h is the “w arm-up column ” . This enables y ou to set y our st arting warm-up level. A longer warm-up at lo wer resist ance can burn more Calories than a shorter warm-up at higher resist ance.
Start: Y ou will then be prompted in the alphanumeric display to “PRESS ST AR T” . Depending on your c hoice when entering “CUS TOM PROGS” , “CUST OM 0 1” or “CUST OM 02” will display confirming y our selection. Y ou can now begin ex ercising, set up, or change your custom program.

NUTRITION Of course, ev er y good health and fitness program will also include a good nutrition component. Good nutrition is lik ely the most important factor in maintaining ideal body weight and managing weight loss. MONIT ORING Y OUR INTENSITY When y ou are doing cardiov ascular workouts, it is import ant that y ou w ork at the appr opri at e int ensi ti es w hen y ou ar e firs t sta rti ng out . It is al so impo r - tant that yo u wor kou t at a va riety o f int ensi ti es a f ter yo u ha ve bui lt a fit ne ss ba se.
These Zones can be translated into target heart rate numbers if your home fitness product has a grip or telemetric heart rate counter . Researc h has shown the best wa y to do this is not to establish heart rate numbers based upon age, but rather based upon how you f eel.
