8 ON/STOP SWITCH The ON/ST OP SWITC H is used to stop the engine. THROTTLE TRIGGER The THROTT LE TRIGGER controls en- gine speed. THROTTLE LOCK - - OUT The THROTTLE LOCK - - OUT must be pressed before you can squeeze the throttle tr igger . This feature prevents you from accidentally squeezing the trigger .
9 Never use engine or carburetor clean- er products in the fuel tank or perma- nent damage may occur . See the ST ORAGE section for addition- al information. CHAIN BRAKE Ensure chain brake is disengaged by pulling the front hand guard back to- ward t he front handle as far as pos- sible.
10 Starting could require many pulls de- pending on how badly the unit is flooded. If engine still fails to start, refer to the TROUBLESH OOTING T ABLE or contact your Sears Service Centre. CHAIN BRAKE W ARNING : If the b rake ban d i s worn t oo thin i t m ay break when the chai n brake is triggered.
11 S The chain saw operator should keep on the uphill side of the t errain as the tree is li kely to roll or slide downhill after it is felled. S Study the natural conditions that can cause the tree to fall in a particular direction. These conditions include: S The wind direction and speed.
12 IMPO RT ANT POINTS S Cut only one log at a time. S Cut shattere d wood very care fully ; sharp pieces of wood could be flung toward operator . S Use a sawhorse to cut small logs. Never allow another person to hol d the log while cutting and never hold the log with your leg or foot.
13 1 st Cut 2 nd Cut LIMBI NG AND PRUNING W ARNING : Be alert for and guard against kickback. Do not allow the moving chain to contact any other branches or objects at the nose of the guide bar w hen limbing or pruning. Al- lowing such contact can result in seri- ous injur y .

15 1. Use the screwdriver end of the chain adjustment tool (bar tool) to move chain around guide bar to ensure kinks do not exist. The chain should rotate freely . 16 LUBRICA TION Bar Oil Fill Cap S See GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN OIL un- der the OPERA TION section. INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND DECALS S After each use, inspect complete unit for loose or damaged parts. Clean the unit and decals using a damp cloth with a mild detergent.
17 Outlet Cover Exhaust Outlets Exhaust Outlets must face chain brak e (bar side) of chain saw 9. Inspect the muf fler gasket and re- place i f damaged. 10. Reinstall backplates, muffler gas- ket and muff ler using muf fler bolts. TIghten until secure.

19 STORAGE W ARNING : Perfo rm the following steps after each use: S All ow the engine to cool, and secure the unit before st oring or transport i ng. S Store chain saw and fuel in a well ventilated area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters, el ectric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
