4 Introduction The FO-NS2 Netwo rk Scanner Expansion Kit allo ws you to sca n a document and dire ctly transmit the ima ge to an e-mail address (Scan to E-mail), FTP ser v er (Scan to FTP), or computer d esktop on your network (Scan to De sktop). T o use this option, the machi ne must be connected to a netw ork.
5 Steps r equired f or setup The f ollowing step s are necessary to use the network s can ner option. The steps must be completed in the or der shown. 1. Y our dealer m ust install the FO- LN 1 netw ork interf ace kit and the FO-NS2 network scanner k it, and enter the netw or k sc anner product k ey .
6 1. Setting the IP Ad d ress Once yo ur dealer has installed the network scanner option and the machine is conne cted to the network, the network admin istrator or administrato r of the machine should use the follo wing procedure to set the IP addr ess of the machine.
Setting the IP Address 7 5 If the mac hine will receive an IP add ress automatically fr om a DHCP server , make sure that “YES ” is selected (this will enab le DHCP ). If the mac hine will be assigned a perma nent IP address, press or to select “NO”.
Setting the IP Address 8 11 W ait while the machine w rites the setting to the NIC board (“DO NO T PO WE R DO WN” will appear in the displa y). When the display changes to “OK”, turn o ff the power of t he machine and then turn it ba ck on to make the new settings take effect.
9 1 Press and then . • Make su re that NETWORK SETTING is selec ted in the displa y . 2 Press and t hen . • Make su re that NETWORK SETTING L IST is selected. 3 Press . 4 Press or to select the list y ou want to print, and then press . (Not e: “NIC” is an acr onym f or “network interfa ce boar d”.
10 3. Mail Server and DNS Server Settings Settings f or yo ur E-mail ser v er and DNS server must be configured in order to use the ne twork scanner function. T o configure t he settings, access the ma chine's W eb page from a com puter that is connected to the same netw or k as the m achine.
Mail Server an d DNS Server Settings 11 Setting P ass wor ds P assw ords can be set to restrict W eb page access and pro tect settings . An administrator pass word and a user pass word can be set. When the W eb page is accessed wit h the administrator pa ssword, all settings can be configured.
12 4. Storing Ne tw ork Scanning Des tinations Network scanning d estinations can be stored in Rapid K eys and Speed Dial numbers. The Rapid K eys and Speed Di al numbers can be in a personal b ook or in the COMMON book.

In the Destination Mana gement page, enter the destination name and select a personal address bo ok or the COMMON book.

Storing Network Scanning Destinati ons 15 Inf ormation on using Scan to Desktop Unlike th e case where a scanner is directly connected to y our computer , scanning using Scan to D esktop cannot be direct ly initiated from a scanning ap plication in your computer .
16 5. Scan to E-mail Setup T o use the Scan to E - m ail function, the subject and sender in formation (name and e-m ail address) that appear whe n an image is sent to an e- mail recipient mu st be entered, and the file f ormat for the scanne d image must be selected.
Scan to E-ma il Setup 17 5 Enter the e-ma il subject by pr essing the letter entry ke ys (max. of 60 character s). (Make sure the Rapid Key o verlay is flipped down.) • T o enter a space, pre ss . • T o change case, pre ss . • T o clear a mistak e, press .

19 1 Load the docu ment(s). • SEND READ Y will appear in the displa y . • Press and/or to set the resolution and contr ast if needed. The def ault resolution is FINE. N ote that ST AND ARD and SUPER FIN E are primarily for f axing and are not recommended f or scanning.

(If yo u wish to use the defau lt settings y ou entered on page 16 and do not nee d to enter a message, go directl y to Step 8.

Important: T o use this procedure, the setup procedures outlined on page 4 must be completed.

35 9. T roubleshooting Pr oblem: The recipien t can not open the ima ge data. Ch eck: Does the recip ient hav e a software prog ram (viewe r) that is compatib le with the f or mat of the file sen t? Solution: T r y sendin g the image using a diff erent file f or mat (TIFF or PDF) an d/or compression metho d (uncompressed, G3 and G4).
Troubleshooting 36 Pr oblem: T akes a long t ime to send an ima ge . Ch eck: A large file siz e can greatly increase the a mount of time required f or tra nsmission. Solution: Reduce the file size (decre ase the number of sca nned pages, use a lower re solution setting, or use a hi gher compression lev el such as G4).
