10 ● Integrated power saving function: If you leav e the base station radio rang e when the mobile unit is switched on, the inter val between synchronisati on attempts gradually increases – th is increases the batter y life in standby mode.
11 The mobile un it fea tures a 4-line di spla y with 16 char acters per line. Depending on the situation, th e display shows: ● digits, e.g. dialled numbers, ● text, e.g. the current base (syste m), ● symbols, e.g. r inging or batter y sy mbol, ● and in the last line the current functions of the t wo dis- play k eys.
12 The two displ a y ke ys are located dir ectly under the displa y . The current functions o f the displa y keys are status- dependent and are dis pla yed in the lower displa y line.
13 The user-friendl y disp lay system gu ides the user qui ckly and effectively through the entire range of features av ailab le with this telephon e system. F or inf or mation on setting the language, see page 5 7. Different functions can be selec ted depending on the status of the mobile unit, e .

15 Putting the mobile unit into service . ● Hold the mobile unit with the dialling keypad facing downwar ds (see Figure 2 ). A battery compar tment f or 2 batteries is locate d in the lower par t of the m obile unit. ● T o open the battery compar tment, undo the s crew on the lid and remove the lid (see Figure 2 ).
16 Putting the mobile unit into service The batteries supplied (NiCd) are not charg ed. To charge the b atteries , inse rt the mo bile unit in the Giga set 2000L charging s hell. The mobile unit can be ins erted with the display fa cing upwards or downwards.
17 Putting the mobile unit into service Mobile unit batter y life: These times are onl y achie ved after several charging and discharging cyc les. Permitted batteries f or the standard version (industrial mobile unit): Pe rmitted batteries for the Ex version: P er mitted batteries for Gigaset active Ex are listed on page page 67.
18 Note on using NiMH batteries: After you ha ve inser ted the NiMH batteri es, we recom- mend that the m obile unit be ful ly charged and th en dis- charged until the bat ter y war ning beep is heard, i.e. without replac ing the batter ies in the ch arging shell.
19 Putting the mobile unit into service . For information on setting the language, see page 57 . Y our system admi nistrator supplie s you with mobile units that hav e already been logged on when you are installing the system f or the first ti me. Y ou mu st log on any n ew mobile units as described belo w if you e xtend the system.

22 T elephone functions This display when the mobile is on is a prerequisit e and init ial status for all telephone functions (se e also ”Radio range” page 9). -! H , , , , or an other name may be dis- played (see page 49) depending on the current base (system).
