7 UNP A CK TILLER AND ASSEMBLE 1. Open top of car ton and remov e handlebar assembly . 2. Find par ts pack et. P ar ts packet contains: 6- 5/16-18 x 1-3/4” bolts 6- 5/16” spr ing lockw ashers 2- hand knobs 4- locknuts 2- 1/2” push nuts 1- detent pin 3.
8 The advantage of the Simplicity/Snapper™ gear drive r ototiller o ver other front tine tillers , is the exclusiv e un- folding and fl e xib le drag bar . This gives the g ear drive tiller its stability and its versatility . F or easy transpor t, f old the wheels under the engine.
9 DRIVE SAFETY CONTROL LEVER Engage tines into f orward, releasing returns machine to neutral. Pulling down on drive saf ety control lev er engages the tines. Releasing the drive saf ety control lever disengages the tines to a neutr al position. BEL T TENSION ADJUSTMENT Proper belt tension is critical to good performance.
10 PRE-ST ART INSPECTION 1. Make sure all saf ety guards are in place and all nuts and bolts are secure. 2. Check oil le v el in engine crankcase. See your engine manual f or procedure and specifi cations. 3. Inspect air cleaner f or cleanliness. See your engine manual f or procedure.
11 OPERA TING SPEED F or normal tilling, set the throttle lev er to “f ast”. SHUTTING DO WN T o stop the engine at any time, mo ve throttle control to the off position. T o stop wheels and tines at any time, release the driv e saf ety control le ver to the neutr al position.
12 SER VICING THE R OT OTILLER The f ollowing inf or mation will help you mak e the necessary checks and perf orm the procedures required to follow the normal care recommendations made f or your rototiller unit. If you pref er , your local authorized dealer can mak e these checks and perf orm the required procedures for you.
13 CHECK BELT TENSION Belt tension may decrease over time. It must be adjusted within the fi rst half hour of operation, and checked after every two hours of operation. Proper adjustment will assure long belt life. Too much or too little belt tension will cause premature belt failure.
14 CA UTION ! TEMPERA TURE OF MUFFLER AND NEAR BY AREAS MA Y EXCEED 150° F . A V OID THESE AREAS. W ARNING ! Y our engine manual provides detailed inf ormation and a maintenance schedule for perf orming the f ollowing tasks: 1 .
15 PREP ARE FOR ST ORA GE F ollow the steps belo w to prepare your tiller f or storage. Read your engine manual f or detailed instr uctions on preparing the engine for storage. 1. Protect wheels and axles from rust: - Coat the axles lightly with axle grease .
16 TROUBLESHOO TING GUIDE While normal care and routine maintenance will extend the lif e of your rototiller , prolonged or constant use may e v entually require that ser vice be perf ormed to allow it to continue operating properly . The troubleshooting guide belo w lists the most common problems , causes and remedies.
17 Additional T echnical Literature A vailable Additional copies of this manual are available, as well as fully illustrated parts lists. These manuals show all of the product’s components in exploded views (3D illustrations which show the relationship of parts and how they go together) as well as part numbers and quantities used.
