5 Syst em Requ irements T o begi n using t he WLM-3 550, make s ure you meet t he fol lowi ng as mi nimum requirements: • PC/Notebook. • 1 Free Ethernet port. • Wi-Fi card/USB don gle ( 802. 11 b/g/n) – opti ona l. • Annex A, AD SL inter net conne ction.
8 PC Ne twork Adapter setup Windows XP • Go to [ Start Menu ], [ C ontrol panel ], [ Network Connec tions ]. • Right-mouse-cl ick on the [ L ocal Area Con nection] ) ic on, an d sel ect [ properties ] • Select [ I nternet Protoc ol (TCP/IP) ] =>Cl ick [ Pro perties ].
Windows Vista/Windows 7 • Go to [ Start Menu ], [ C ontrol panel ], [ Vi ew network status an d tasks ], -> [ Manag e network connectio ns ].
• Select [ I nternet Protoc ol Versio n 4 ( TCP/IPv4) ], and Cl ick [ Prop erties ]. • Open the [ Ge neral ] tab. The WLM-3550 sup ports DHCP . Please select both [ Obtain an I P address automatically ] and [ Obtain D NS server ad dress automaticall y ].
9 Bring u p t he WLM- 3550 Connect the sup pl ied p ower-adapter to the power i nlet port and connect it to a wall out l et. Press th e Power-Button to turn the modem on.
Status The pages in t he status secti on provide you ge neral i nformation abo ut the operational status of yo ur devi ce. Status The System status sectio n al lows you to mon itor t he current statu s of your modem/router: th e UP time , hardware inf ormation, seria l num ber as w el l as firmware version i nformatio n is dis played here.
Statistics Y ou can view statisti cs on the processin g of IP packe ts on the networking interfaces . Y ou w i ll not t ypicall y nee d to v iew thi s data, b ut you may fi nd it helpf ul when workin g wi th your ISP to diagnose network a nd I nternet data transmission probl ems.
DHCP List This pa ge sh ows al l D HCP cl ients (LAN PCs) c urrently con nected to your network. The table sh ows the assi gned IP address, MAC address and expiration time f or each DHC P lease d cl ient.
Diagnostics The Dia gnost ics page al lows you to t est th e current c onfiguration . Clic k ‘Start’ to let th e modem router perform se ver al tasks to verify if t he connecti on is o perational.
11 Configura tion Wizard Clic k Wizard to co nfi gure th e modem. The Setup wizard wil l now b e displayed; check that th e adsl l in e is c onnecte d and c li ck Next. Sele ct your country fro m the Country list. Sel ect your internet pr ovider . Cli ck Next.
12 Basi c Sett ings LAN Settings This page i s us ed to c onfi gure th e LAN i nterface of your ADSL Router . Y ou can set IP addres s, s ubnet mask, and IGM P Snoopi ng or modi fy the IPv 6 address range .
DHCP Settings Y ou can confi gure your netw ork and the router to u se the D ynamic H ost Confi guration Protocol (DH CP). This page al lows you to se lect t he DHCP mode that this ro uter wi l l su pport. There are two diff erent DHCP Modes: DHCP Server and DHCP Relay .
W AN Settin gs This page al low s you to manuall y conf ig ure the ADSL/WAN settin gs. Th e setting s on th is page re quire som e know led ge c oncerning the WAN conf iguration we advi ce less-ex per.
ATM VC • Virtual Circuit: VPI (Virtual Path Ident ifi er) and VC I (Virtual Channel Identif ier) defi ne a v irtual c ircui t. • VPI : The vali d range fo r the VPI is 0 to 2 55. E nter the VPI assig ned to you. This fi el d may already be confi gured.
• Network Address Translation: Select None , Many to One or Many to Many from the drop-so wn l ist box. Refer to the NA T c hapter for more detail s. • RIP Version: Select th e RIP versi on from RIP-1, RIP-2B and RIP- 2M. • RIP Direction: Select the RIP d irecti on fro m None, Both, In Onl y and Out Only.

DTIM Broadcast SSID If thi s opti on is enabled, the ro uter wi ll automatical ly transmit the network name (SSID) i nto o pen air at regular interval. Th is fe ature is inte nded t o all ow cli ents to dynamica lly disc over the router . If th is optio n is disab led , the r outer wi ll hi de it s SSID.
QoS QoS all ows you to clas si fy Internet ap pl icatio n traffic by source/dest inatio n IP address and port numb er . Y ou can a ssi gn pri ority f or each type of app licati on and reserve bandwi dth f or it. The packe ts o f ap pl ications with hi gher prior ity w ill always go fi rst.
Enable/Disable QoS Y ou can chec k “Enable QoS” to enab le QoS functiona li ty for the WAN port. Add a rule Enter all t he data re quire d for t he rule you wish to set and cl i ck Add to s ave this ru le. Edit a QoS rule Select the rul e you want to edit and clic k “ Edit” , then enter the d etail f orm o f the QoS rule.
UPnP When the U PnP f unctio n i s enabl ed, t he router c an be detect ed by U PnP compl iant system such as Wi ndows 7 . R outing The page enabl es you t o de fine spec ifi c route f or your Internet and network data. Most users do n ot nee d to de fine ro utes. On a typi cal smal l h ome or off ic e LAN, the exi stin g routes that set u p the de fault gateways for your LAN hosts and for the router provi de th e most ap propriate path for al l your Internet traffic.
SNMP Simp le Network Management Protocol ( SNMP ) is a trou blesh ooti ng and management protoc ol t hat uses t he UDP protocol on port 161 to comm unicate between c li ents a nd ser ve rs. The router can be managed lo call y or remotely by SNMP protocol .
DDNS Dynamic DN S (DDNS ) al lows you to map the st atic domai n name to a dy namic IP address. You must get an accou nt, password an d your static d omain name from the DD NS servi ce providers . Parameter Description Enable Check the b ox to enabl e D DNS fu nction.

For exa mpl e, i f you have a local cl ient PC that cannot r un an Internet appl icatio n (e.
Virtual server Use the V irtual Server fun ctio n wh en you want diff erent servers/cli ents in your LAN to ha ndle di fferent service/Internet ap pl ication type ( e.g. Emai l, FTP , W eb server etc. ) from t he Internet. Computers use numbers call ed port numbers to recognize a part icul ar servi ce/Inter net appl icat ion type.

Firmware Upgr ade Enable Automatic firmware update When enabled t he router w i ll check f or updates on t he f irmware if an updat ed firmware has b een releas ed the router w ill inform you that a newer firmware i s av ail abl e an d off ers to downl oad a nd insta ll the firmware.
R eboot Whenever you use the W eb confi guration t o change system setti ngs, t he changes are ini tia lly place d i n temporary storage. T o save your change for future use, you have to cli ck “ A pp ly” to reboot the router .
