USER MANUAL AXIS P1214–E Network Camera.
About this document This manual is intended for admini strators and users of the AXIS P1214-E Network Camera, a nd is applicable to fi rmware 5.40 and later. It includes instruction s for using and managing the product on your network. Previous experience of networking will be of use when using this product.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a H a rd w a re O ve r v i ew 1. Cut the cable to the desired len gth. Measure from the sensor unit. 2. Strip the plastic outer coating from the end of the cable. 3. Peel back the shield. 4. Flatten the colored wire s in the order described below.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a A ccessing the P r oduct Access from the Internet Once connected, the Axis product is accessible on your local net work (LAN). To access the product from the Internet you must con fi gure your network router to allow incoming data traf fi c to the product.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a A ccessing the P r oduct Select the power line f req uency (50 Hz or 60 Hz) used at the locat ion of the Axis product. Selecting the wrong frequency may cause image fl i c k e ri ft h ep r o d u c ti su s e di n fl uorescent light environments.

Please see the AXIS Media Contro l User’s Manual for more information. The AMC Control Panel is automa tically installed on fi rst use, after which it can be con fi gured.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Settin g Up the P r oduct Setting Up the Product The Axis product can be con fi g ured by users with administrator or operator r ights. To open the product’s Setup pages, click Setup in the top right-hand corner of the Live View page.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Video Image The default image s etting s can be con fi gured under Video> Video Stream . Select the Image tab. The following settings are a vailable: • Resolution . Select the default resolution. • Compression .
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Video Camera Settings The Video > Camera Settings page provides access to advanced image settings for the Axis product. Image Appearance Increasing the Color level increases the color saturation. The value 100 gives m aximum color saturation.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Detector s Detectors Camera Tampering Camera Tampering can genera te an alarm whenever the camera is repositioned, or when the lens is covered, sprayed or severely defocused. To send an alarm, for example an email, an action rule must be set up.

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Ev e n ts Events The Axis product can be con fi gured to perform actions when diffe rent events occur, for example, start a recording when motion i s detected. The set of conditions that de fi nes how and when the action is triggered is called an Action Rule .
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Ev e n ts Setting Up an Action Rule An action rule de fi nes the conditions that m u st be met for the product to pe rform an action, f or examp le record video or send email noti fi cations. If multiple conditions are de fi ned, all must be met to trigger the action.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Ev e n ts Note A network share can also b e used as a storage device for recorded video. Go to System Options > Storage to con fi gure a network share before setting up a continuous re c o r d i n go ra na c t i o nr u l et or e c o r dv i d e o .

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a Re c o rd i ng s Note If a new stream pro fi le is selected while a recording is ongoing, the reco rding will be stopped and saved in the reco rding list and a new recording with the new stream pro fi le will start.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options System Options Security Users User access control is enabled by default and can be con fi gured under System Options > Security > Users . An administrator can set up other users by giving them user names and passwords.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options IEEE 802.1X IEEE 802.1X is a s tandard for port-based Network Admission Control p roviding secure authentication of wired and wireless network devices. IEEE 802.1X is based on EAP (Extensible Authentication P rotocol).

AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options Advanced TCP/IP Settings DNS Con fi guration DNS (Domain Name Service) provides the translation of host names to IP a ddresses. The DNS settings are con fi gured under System Options > Network > TCP/IP > Advanced .
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options NAT traversal (port mapping) for IPv4 A network router allows devices on a private network (LAN) to share a single connection to the Internet. This is done by forwarding network traf fi c from the private network to the “outside”, that is, the Int ernet.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options QoS (Quality of Service) QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees a certain level of a speci fi ed resource to selected traf fi c on a network. A QoS-aware network prioritizes network traf fi c and provides a greater network reliability by co ntrolling the amount of bandwi dth an application may use.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options RTP/H.264 The RTP port range and multicast settings are con fi gured under System Options > Network > RTP . The RTP port range de fi nes t he range of po rts from which the video ports are automatically selected.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options Network Share Network share allows you to add network sto rage such as a NAS (Network Attached Storage) or any server that uses CIFS (Common Internet File System) and use them for storage of recordings. To add a network share: 1.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a System Options Click Defaul t to reset all settings, including the IP address, to the factory default values. This button should be used with caution. The Axis product can also be reset to factory d efault using the control button, see Reset to Factory Default Settings on page 40 .

Axis strongly recommends that you do not use this function unless y ou understand the consequences. Axis Support does not provide assistance for problems with custom ized scripts.
AXIS P12 14–E Netw ork Camer a T r oubleshootin g Troubleshooting Checking the Firmware Firmware is software that determines the functionality of network devices. One of your fi rst actions when tro u bleshooting a problem should be to check the current fi rmware version.

Some factors affect the amount of bandwidth (the bit rate) required , others can affect the frame rate, and some affect both.
