About this Document This manual is intended for administrators and users of the AXIS P3384–V F ixed D ome Network C amera, an d i s a pplicable to fi rmware 5.4 and later. It includes instructions for using and man aging the product on your network.

AXIS P3384–V A ccessin g the P r oduct Accessing the Product To install the Axis product, refer to the I nstallation Guide supplied with the product. The product can be used with most operating systems and browsers. The recommended browsers are Internet Explorer with Windows, Safari with Maci ntosh and Fi refox with o ther operating systems.
AXIS P3384–V A ccessin g the P r oduct Access from the I nternet Once connected, t he Axis product is accessible on your local n etwork (LAN). To access the product from the Internet you must con fi gure your network router t o allow incoming data traf fi c to the product.
AXIS P3384–V A ccessin g the P r oduct Select the power line frequency (50 H z or 60 Hz) used at the location of the Axis product. Selecting the wrong frequency may c ause image fl i c k e ri ft h ep r o d u c ti su s e di n fl uorescent light environments.
AXIS P3384–V A ccessin g the P r oduct AXIS Media Control viewer toolbar The AXIS M edia Control viewer toolbar is availa ble in Internet E xplorer only. See AXIS Media Control (AMC) o n page 11 for more information. The toolbar displays the f ollowing butto ns: The Play button connects to t he Axis product and starts playing a media stream.
AXIS P3384–V A ccessin g the P r oduct Click the Ctrl panel button to open the PTZ control panel which provides additional PTZ controls. User-de fi ned buttons can also appear in the Control panel. S ee Controls on pa ge 27 . To view a speci fi c view are a or preset positi on, select the view area or preset position from the Source list.
AXIS P3384–V Media Str eams Media Streams The Axis product provides several audio and v ideo stream form ats. Your requirem ents and t he properties of your network will determine t he type you use. The Live View p age in the product provides access to H.

AXIS P3384–V Media Str eams Note • <ip>= IP addess • The Axis product supports QuickTim e 6.5.1 and later. • QuickTime adds latency to the video stream. • It may be possible to use other players to view the H .264 stream using t he paths above, although A xis does not guarantee this.
AXIS P3384–V Settin g Up the P r oduct Setting Up the Product The Axis product can be c on fi gured by users with administrator or operator rights. To open the product’s Setup pages, clic k Setup in the top right-hand corner of the Live View page.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio Video and Audio The video and audio settings can be used to optimize video and audio quality. You can con fi gure the following: • Video stream settings. See page 15 . •S t r e a m p r o fi les . See page 16 . • Camera settings.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio • Resolution . S elect the default resolution. • Compression . The compression le vel affects t he image quality, b andwidth and fi le size of saved images; the l ower the compression, the higher the image quality with higher bandwidth requirements and larger fi le sizes.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio Camera Settings The Video & Audio > Camera Settings page provides access to advanced image settings for the Axis product. Image Appearance Increasing the C olor level increases the color saturation. The value 100 gives maximum color s aturation.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio Shutter & Gain The shutter and gain settings affect the amount of motion blur and noise in the image. To adapt to different lighting, av aila ble storage s pace and bandwidth, it is often nece ssary t o prioritize either l ow motion blur or low noise.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio To add a new view area: 1. Go to Video & Audio > View Areas . 2. Click Add . 3. The new view ar ea appears under Selected view area . E nter a descriptive name in the Name fi eld. 4. Select an Aspect ratio and a Video stream resolution .
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio 2. Click Brow se a n db r o w s et ot h e fi le. 3. Click Uploa d . 4. Select the i mage to use from the Use overlay image list. 5. Click Save . To display the overlay image: 1. Go to Video & Audio > Video Stream and select the Image tab.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio 1. Click Open iris to open the iris to its maximum position. This gives t he smallest depth o f fi eld and provides the best conditions for focusing. 2 . F o c u si ss e ti nt h e Focus window . Use the mouse to move and r esize the focus w indow.
AXIS P3384–V Video and A udio Encoding - Select digital audio encoding format. • AAC requires a license for both encoding and decoding. AAC is the least complicated and most widely used codec. If achieving the best possible audio quality is a priority, A AC is the recommended codec to use.

AXIS P3384–V PTZ (P an Tilt Zoom) PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) The PTZ menu is available i f digital PTZ (pan, tilt and z oom) is enabled in the s elected view area.
AXIS P3384–V PTZ (P an Tilt Zoom) Guard Tour A guard tour displays the video stre am from different preset posi tions , one-by -one, in a pr edeter mined or der or at ra ndom and f or con fi gurable time periods. The enabled guard tour will keep running after the user has l ogged off or closed the browser.
AXIS P3384–V Detector s Detectors Camera Tampering Camera Tampering can generate an alarm w henever the camera is repositioned, or when the lens is covered, sprayed or severely defocused. To send an alarm, for example an email, an action rule must be set u p.
AXIS P3384–V Detector s Note Using the motion detection f eature may decrease the product’s overall performance. Set Up Motion Detection Windows To set up a motion detecti on Include Wi ndow, f ollow t hes e instructions: 1. Go to Detectors > Motion Detection .
AXIS P3384–V Detector s Medium lev el (50%) A l arge difference in luminance is required to trigger motion detection. Low level ( 0%) Even very small objects trigger motion detection. An object that appears in the w indow triggers motion detection only for a very short time before it is considered as non-moving.

AXIS P3384–V Ev e n ts Events The Axis product can be con fi gured t o perform actions when diffe rent events occur, for example, s tart a recording when mo tion i s detected. T he set of conditions that de fi nes how and when the action is triggered is called an Action Ru le .
AXIS P3384–V Ev e n ts - System Init ializing — trigger t he rule when the product is being s tarted. This can for example be used to send a noti fi cation when the product restarts. • Time - Recurrence — trigger the rule periodically, see Recurrences on page 35 .
AXIS P3384–V Ev e n ts 8. Select Network S hare from the Storage drop-down list. To add add itional criteria, s elect the Additional conditions option and add additional triggers. To prevent an action from being triggered repeatedly, a Wait at least time can be set.
AXIS P3384–V Ev e n ts 3. Click OK . To use the schedule in an Action Rule, select the sc hedule from the Sch edule drop-down list in the Actio n Rule Setup page. Recurrences Recurrences are used to trigge r Action Rules re peatedly, for e x ample every 5 m inutes or every hour.

AXIS P3384–V Re c o rd i n gs Note If a new stream p ro fi le is selected while a recording i s ongoing, the recording will be stopped a nd saved in the recording list and a new recording with the new stream pro fi le will start.
AXIS P3384–V System Options System Opti ons Security Users User access control is enabled by default and can be con fi gured under System Opti ons > Security > U sers . An administrator can set up other users by giving them user names and passwords.
AXIS P3384–V System Options IEEE 802.1X IEEE 802.1X is a standard f or port-based Network Admission Control providing secure authentication of wired and wireless network devices. IEEE 802.1X is based on EAP ( Extensible A uthentication Protocol). To access a network protected by IEEE 802.
AXIS P3384–V System Options A Server/Client certi fi cate can be self-signed or issued by a Certi fi cate Authority (CA). A self-signed certi fi cate offers limited protection and c an be used before a CA-issued certi fi cate has been obtained. To i nstall a self-signed certi fi cate: 1.
AXIS P3384–V System Options Network Basic TCP/IP Settings The Axis product supports IP version 4 and I P version 6. Both v ersions can be enabled simultaneously, and at least one version must always be enabled.
AXIS P3384–V System Options Advanced TCP/IP Settings DNS Con fi guration DNS (Domain Name Service) provides the t ranslation of host names to IP addresses. The DNS settings are con fi gured under System Options > Network > TCP/IP > A dvanced .
AXIS P3384–V System Options NAT traversal (port mapping) for IPv4 A network router allows devices on a private network (LAN) to share a single connection to the Internet. T his is done by forwarding network traf fi c from the private network to the “outside”, that is, the Internet.
AXIS P3384–V System Options QoS (Quality of Service) QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees a certain l evel of a speci fi ed resource to selected traf fi c on a network. A Q oS-aware network prioritizes network traf fi c and provides a greater network reliability by c ontrolling the amount of bandwidth an application may use.
AXIS P3384–V System Options UPnP TM The Axis product includes support for UPnP TM .U P n P TM is enabled by default and the pr oduct is automatically detected by operating systems a nd c lients t hat support this protocol. UPnP TM can be disabled under Syst em Options > Ne twork > UPnP TM .
AXIS P3384–V System Options If the card’s s tatus s hows as failed, click Check disk to see if the problem can be found and then try Re pair . This option is only available for SD cards with ext4. For SD cards with vFAT, use a card reader or computer to troubleshoot the card.

AXIS P3384–V System Options The log levels for the System Log and the A ccess Log are set under System Options > Support > Logs & Reports > Con fi guration . The Access Log can be con fi gured to list all connections to the product (select Critical, Warnings & Info).
AXIS P3384–V T r oubleshootin g Troubleshooting Checking the Firmware Firmware is software that determines the functionality of network devices. One of your fi rst actions when troubleshooting a problem should be to check the current fi rmware version.

Also, make sure that AXIS Media Control is installed on your computer .
