5 H ARDWARE D ESCRIPTION The SMC2802W Wirele ss PCI Card suppo r ts up to 54 Mbps connections. This card is fully compliant with the specifications defined in IEEE 802.11g standard. It is designed to complement PCI Local Bus compute rs and suppor ts Windo ws 98SE/Me/2000/ XP .
H ARDW ARE I NSTALLATION 6 H ARDWARE I NSTALLATION Wa r n i n g : • Th is network adapt er requires a PC and BIOS that supports the PCI Local Bus Specificatio n v2.2 or later. If you are insta lling in an older computer model, upgrade th e BIOS to the latest version.
H ARDWARE I NSTALLA TION 7 4. Inser t the ne twork card into the slo t so that it is fir mly sea ted. Screw the card’s bracke t securely into the comp uter’s chassis. Note: Be careful that it d oes not touch any cond ucting par ts on the comput er mothe rboard.

14 U TILITY C ONFIGURATION Using the SMC2802W Utility Program Once the installation is complete, the config uration utility can be accessed from the St ar t m enu, or you can access it through th e quic k launch icon. When the utility progr am is r unni ng, there will be a quic k launch icon in the lo wer right-hand cor ner of the t a sk bar .
U SING THE SMC2802W U TILITY P ROGRAM 15 Configuration When you star t the SMC 2802W 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Ca rd utility , the inf or mation window f or the SMC2802W is shown as in the figure below . Select Profile – Y ou can sp ecify a profile name f or a sp ecific configur ation of par ameters.
