Usually , the best location is at the ce nter of y our wireless cov erage area, if possib le within line-of-sight of a ll wireless de vices. 2. Place the Wireless Ethernet Br idge in a position that gives it maximum co v erag e.
8 S YSTEM C ONFIGURATION The SMC2870W is a Plug-and-Pla y device . This means that, i n most cases, y ou will not need to configure it. The SMC2870W Wireless Ethernet Bridge includes an SNMP agent that is accessib le throug h an SNMP manager application (Ref er to “Using the Configurati on Utility” on page 11.
9 EZ I NSTALLATION W IZARD T o configure y our SMC28 70W, first v erify that y our computer has an IP addre ss in the same subnet as th e SMC2870W. I f you are not f amiliar with this procedure, see the “Using IPCONFIG” section below . Note: The default IP ad dress of the SMC2870W is 192.

U SING THE C ONFIGURATION U TILITY 11 Using the Configuration Utility 1. Click Start/Programs/SMC287 0W/SMC2870W Configuration Utility . 2. The program will automatically scan f or SMC2870W access points on t he network. If y ou want to sub sequently detect a ll access points on the network, clic k the Scan b utton.

Menu Description Wireless Settings Wireless Network Name (SSID) All wireless clients and the wire less access points within a specific ESS (Extended Service Set) must be configured with the same SSID.
