14 BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT • Your new appliance is designed exclusively for domestic use. To ensure best use of your appliance, carefully read the operating instru ctions which contain a description of the appliance and advice on storing and preservin g food.
15 PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS • During installation, ma ke sure t he appliance does not damage the power cable. • Make sure the applian ce is not near a heat source. • To guarantee adequate ventilation, lea ve a space on both sides an d above the appliance and follow the installat ion ins tructions.
16 HOW TO OPERA TE THE REFRIGERA TOR COMP ARTMENT Switching on the appliance 1. Plug in the appliance. 2. The appliance switches on. The temp erature is factor y set to 5 ° C. An acoustic alarm sounds if the door is le ft open for more than 2 minutes (see section “Refrigerator door open alarm” i n this chapter).
17 HOW TO USE THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT The freezer compartment can be used for freezing fresh food. The quantity of fre sh food that can be frozen i n 24 hours is show n on the rating plate. Freezing fresh food • Press the freeze button D ; the yellow LED comes on and re mains lit for the entire period.
18 HOW TO DEFROST THE APPLIANCE Before defrosting, unplug the appliance from the mains or disconnect the electrical power supply. Defrosting of the refrigerator compartment is co mpletely automatic. Drop lets of wate r on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment indi ca te that the periodic automatic defrost cycle is in progress.
19 CARE AND MAINTENANCE Before any cleaning or maintenance ope ration, unplug the appliance or disconnect it from the power supply. • Periodicall y clean t he refrigera tor compartment with a sponge moi stened with lukewarm water and/ or neutral detergent.
