Nev er assume that children will remain where you last sa w them. 1. K eep children out of the mowing area and under the watchful care of another responsib le adult.
4 SER VICE AND MAINTENANCE Safe Handling of Gasoline 1. Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars , pipes, and other sources of ignition. 2. Use only approv ed gasoline containers. 3. Ne ver remo ve the gas cap or add fuel with the engine running. Allow the engine to cool bef ore refueling.

7 PRE-OPERA TION Read The Operator’ s Manual • Read the operator’ s manual. Y ou should alw a ys read and f ollow the instructions in the operator’ s manual. Proper care, perf or mance tips, and saf ety inf ormation is located in this impor tant document.
8 OPERA TION Ground Speed Le vers / P arking Brake These le vers control the g round speed and parking brake of the rider . The left le ver controls the left rear driv e wheel and the right lev er controls the r ight rear dr ive wheel and parking brake .
9 Mower Height of Cut Adjustment T o adjust cutting height, rotate the tur n crank clockwise to raise the mow er deck and countercloc kwise to lower the mower dec k. Ignition Switch The ignition s witch star ts and stops the engine; it has three positions: OFF Stops the engine and shuts off the electrical system.
10 W ARNING Never allo w passengers to ride on the unit. Before lea ving the operator’ s position for an y reason, engage the parking brake, disengage the PT O, stop the engine and remo ve the key . T o reduce fire hazard, keep the engine, rider and mower free of grass, lea ves and excess grease.
11 PUSHING THE RIDER BY HAND 1. T ur n the PT O s witch OFF , set the ground speed con- trol le vers to P ARK, turn the ignition switch OFF , remov e the key , and wait f or all moving parts to stop. 2. Locate the transmission release le vers (C , Figure 3) at the rear of the unit.
12 DRIVING PRA CTICE - B ASIC DRIVING W ARNING: Ne ver oper ate on slopes greater than 17.6% (10°). See SLOPE OPERA TION in the saf ety section. Zero tur n riders operate differently from other f our- wheeled vehicles . The drive wheels are also y our steer- ing wheels.
13 AD V ANCED DRIVING Executing an End-Of-Ro w Zero T urn Y our z ero tur n rider’ s unique ability to turn in place allows y ou to turn around at the end of a cutting row rather than ha ving to stop and make a Y -tur n bef ore star ting a new row .
14 MO WER DECK REMO V AL & INST ALLA TION NO TE: P erf orm mower remov al and installation on a hard, le v el surf ace such as a concrete floor . Removing the Mo wer Deck 1. T ur n the PT O off , put the control le v ers in P ARK posi- tion, turn the ignition OFF , remov e the key , and wait f or all moving parts to stop.
15 MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE The f ollowing schedules should be f ollowed f or normal care of your rider and mower . * More often in hot (ov er 85° F: 30° C) weather or dusty operating conditions. ** Check the function of the saf ety system after the unit has been stored for 30 da ys or longer .
16 Rider Maintenance Items CLEAN DEBRIS FR OM RIDER AND ENGINE COMP AR TMENT Service Interval: Bef ore each use. CA UTION: If debris is not removed fr om the engine compartment and other hot surfaces, it creates a fire hazard.

18 CLEAN DECK & CHECK / REPLA CE MO WER BLADES Service Interval: 25 hours or as required. 1. Remov e mower deck (see “Mower Dec k Remov al” in the OPERA TION section). 2. See Figure 18. Remove b lade to inspect it or to saf e- ly access the underside of the mower dec k.
19 CHECK RIDER SAFETY SYSTEM Service Interval: Every 100 hours, e ver y spring/fall, and after storage of 30 da ys or longer . This unit is equipped with saf ety interlock s witches. These saf ety systems are present f or your saf ety . Do not attempt to bypass saf ety switches , and ne v er tamp- er with saf ety de vices.
20 CHECK / ADJUST PT O CLUTCH Service Interval: 200 Hours. The PT O clutch is engaged and disengaged by the PT O s witch. The clutch powers and br akes the mo wer b lades.

24 SER VICE & ADJUSTMENTS GR OUND SPEED CONTR OL LEVER ADJUSTMENT The control le vers ha ve three adjustments: T o Adjust Control Lever Height: Pull the le vers in across the operator’ s lap to their DRIVE positions. Loosen the mount bolts (D , Figure 30) and raise or lower the le vers to the desired position.

Cutting Height Adjustment Crank A CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT T ur n the cutting height adjustment crank (A, Figure 31) clockwise to r aise the mower dec k and counterclockwise to lower it. If the crank is difficult to turn, thoroughly clean and lubricate it.

Unequal or improper tire pressure ma y also cause an une ven cut.

28 ST ORA GE W ARNING Never store the unit (with fuel) in an enc losed, poorly ventilated structure. Fuel vapors can travel to an ignition sour ce (such as a furnace, water heater , etc.) and cause an explosion. Fuel vapor is also to xic to humans and animals.
29 T roub leshooting the Rider PROBLEM CA USE REMED Y Engine will not turnover or start. Ground speed controls not set to P ARK Set to P ARK. PT O switch in ON position. Place in OFF position. Ground speed le vers not in P ARK positions . Mov e ground speed lev ers to P ARK positions.
30 Engine runs, but rider will not drive. T ransmission release le v ers in PUSH positions. Mov e lev ers to DRIVE positions. Drive belt slips. Clean or replace belt as necessar y . Belt is broken. Replace drive belt. P ar king brake is not fully released.
