4 1 | I NT RODUCT ION Thank y ou for purchasing the CompactFlash Scan Card ( CF Scan Card) Series 5 or Series 5 Rx. This barcode scanner plugs into the Socket SoMo ® 650 /655 handheld computer and provides high -quality laser or CMOS imaging barcode scanning technology .
C HAPTER 1: I NTRODUCTION 5 Software installati on for W indows Mobi le requires a host PC with Mi crosoft synchroni zati on software (free from the Microsoft website). Alternatively , advan ced users can use a CAB file to install the app lication.
6 2 | S ET UP FOR T HE S O M O This chapter shows how to install , configure, and use the CompactFlash Scan Car d (CF Scan Card) with any version of the Sock et SoMo handhel d computer. S ETUP S UM MARY STEP 1: Assign a trigger button. STEP 2: Start SocketScan STEP 3: Insert the CF Scan Card.
C HAPTER 2: S ETUP FOR THE S O M O 7 STEP 1: A SSIGN A T RIGGER B UTT ON Note: Alternatively, you can use the SocketScan Trigger software to set up a soft trigge r on the SoMo screen . See Chapter 4. Note: If SocketScan is not running yet, you can press the trigger button to qui ckly la unch SocketScan.
8 3. In the next screen, tap LEFT or RIGHT in the ”Barcode to…” line to assign the button on the left or right s ide of the SoMo as the bar code scanner trigger. Note: The “RFID to…” options do not app ly to the CompactFlash Scan Card.. 4.
C HAPTER 2: S ETUP FOR THE S O M O 9 W indows Mobi le 5 or 6 (prior to W indows Mobile 6 S ervice Pack 4) 1. Tap Start | Settings | Buttons . 2. Select a button to t rigger the CF Scan Card. In the d rop-down menu, select SocketScan . W hen d one, tap ok .
10 STEP 2: S TA RT S OCKET S CA N 1. P ress the trigger button that y ou just assig ned. This is a quick way of starting SocketScan. Alternativel y , t ap Start | Pr ograms | SocketScan folder | SocketScan . 2. W hen SocketScan is running, a SocketScan icon wil l appear at the b ottom of the Today screen.
C HAPTER 2: S ETUP FOR THE S O M O 11 STEP 3: I NSERT TH E C A RD 1. Open t he card slot cover on top of the SoMo a nd insert the CF Scan Card into the CF card slot. Be sure to insert the card all the way i nto the slot. Do not insert the c ard backwards .
12 IM PORTANT! Do not look directly into t he beam or point it at a person! Note: Print out pag e before scanning barcode. Do not scan from the screen. Note: If you have trouble scanning , try adjusting the scanning distance and/or the scanning angle.

14 S YMBOLOGY S ELECTOR The applet mak es it easy to select whi ch symbologies y ou want the scanner to decode. 1. Tap on the S ocketScan icon. In the pop-up menu, tap Symbology Selector... 2. In the screen that appears, check the symbologies you w ish to enable.
C HAPTER 4: S ETUP FOR W INDOW S M OBILE 15 S CA NNER S ETT INGS The Sock etScan Setting s utility lets you specify a prefix and/or suff ix to automatically add to each scan, as well as sounds to signi fy go od reads of data. 1. Tap on the S ocketScan icon.
16 S CA N D EMO Scan Demo m akes it easy to determine the sy mbology , number of characters , and decoded data (in eithe r ASCII or Hex) of any barcode supported by the scanner. This is especially us eful if y ou encounter a barcode that the scanner w ill no t decode by default.
C HAPTER 4: S ETUP FOR W INDOW S M OBILE 17 S OCKET S C A N T RIGG ER If you find it inconveni ent or impossible to assign or use a hardware button t o trigger the scanner, y ou can use this virtual trigger bu tton that “floats” on top of the active app lication.
18 4. A SocketScan Trigger icon will also app ear in the menu bar of the Toda y screen. Tap this icon to open a po p-up menu with the followi ng options: Tap Scan Now to activate the scanner as if y ou had tapped the trigger button.
