1 General information General information Congr atulations on the purchas e of a Sonim Xp erience™ One – XP1 mobile phone. The Sonim XP1 phone is fully compliant wi th the recently ratified Open Mobil e Alliance (OMA) PoC standard specificati on.
2 General information Options commonly used across menu items The follo wing are co mmon action s are used across various menu items: Press and hold Means to press and hold a key f or 2–3 seconds before releasing the key .
3 Your safety guidelines Your safety guidelines Please read and understand the follow ing sa fety gui delin es before you use the phone. These guidelines provide details to enable you to operate y our phone safely and conform to an y legal requirements regarding the use of cellular phones.
4 Getting started Getting started Battery information Battery care Use only an XP1 certified battery , charger o r any other accessories th at are design ed for this phone model. The use of other batteries, chargers and accessories may void the warranty terms of your phone and c ause damages .
5 Getting started 3. If the battery is being c harged when the phone is switched off , only the bat- tery icon with th e message Char ging is displayed (as show in the adj acent fig- ure). When the battery has been fully charged, the message Completed is display ed.
6 Getting started 4. Slide the silver clip over the SIM card to hold it securely (as shown in th e figure B). 5. Replace the bat tery and the cover . T urn th e battery cover knob clockwise to lo ck the battery cover . Remov e the SIM card 1. Ensure the phone is switched off .
7 Getting started XP1 keypad The va rious ke ypad ke ys and t heir c orresp ondin g functi ons are described in the f ollowing figure. The alpha-numeric keys comprise numbers from one to zero, alphabets from A- Z, plus [*] and [#] k eys. By pressing the designated key you can in put numbers or char acters.
8 Getting started Operations in standby mode The following can be accessed fr om the home screen when the phone is in standby mode or when the phone is not active. Note: The four fu nctio ns tha t are perfor med us ing the navigati on keys are set as factory defaults, however they can be chan ged.
9 Getting started K eypad functions The followi ng table displays the various k eys and the corr esponding func tions they perf orm: Keypad key Operation Power On/Off/End call Press and hold to switch on or swit ch off th e mobile phone. Press and release when in Menu or E dit modes to re turn to Standby mod e.
10 Getting started Navigation keys The Left and Right selec tion keys, P ower On/Off and Pickup keys surround th is key group. There are arrows on the key that denote the direction for scrolling through information dis played on the screen. Up/Down Press to view the target characters by pages in the text editor .
11 Getting started Press and hold to switc h on and switch o ff the loudsp eaker during a PT T or a GSM call. Press and hold to display ‘+’ used f or di aling an international number . Press and release to switch between lower case and upper case, when entering text.
12 PTT quick start PTT quick start This section helps you to quickly get s tarted and use the PT T func tion on your phone. F ollow the instructions to cre- ate contacts, make calls to in dividuals, prede fined groups and ad hoc or impr omptu groups. Get started 1.
13 PTT quick start PT T settings 1. On the home sc reen, select Menu > PTT > Settings . The following settings are available for the PT T service: Type Preference Function General Answer set- tings Individual Specifies the answer settings for each contact.

15 PTT quick start Create a PT T contact 1. Press and release the PTT key to display the Contacts screen. Select Option > Create contact > OK . OR 2. Select Menu > PTT > Contact > OK > Option > Create contac t > OK. 3. Enter the Contac t number and Contact name.
16 PTT quick start Create a group 1. Select Menu > PTT > Group > OK > Option > Cre- ate group > OK . 2. Enter a Group name and select Save. Make a note of the Group I d displayed and select OK . 3. T o view the members of a group, scroll to a group and select Option > Edit/view m embers > OK .
17 PTT quick start Resou rce Indicato r) will given t o you by y our service pr o- vider . 1. Enter the contact number and press the PTT key . When the number is being dialed, Ringing is dis played at the top of th e phone.
18 PTT quick start 1. Select Accept to take the call. Select Reject to decline the call. The top of the screen now displays Start receiving , Listen. 2. T o con tinue with the con versation, pr ess the PTT key after the other person f ini shes speaking.
19 Your XP1 phone Your XP1 phone This model is a bar t ype phone with a sing le LCD screen. The graphic f ield of the screen is 129 (w) and 160 (h) pix- els. The CSTN technology us ed displays 65K colo rs. Main menu T o access the main menu press the Menu key or se lect Menu .
20 Your XP1 phone Settings Y ou can create and modify various set tings in your phone. 1. On the homepage select Menu > Settings > OK to access the options . Ringer settings Y ou can set a tune for your incoming calls, PT T calls, SMS alerts and alarm.
21 Your XP1 phone Y ou can choose between Standard tunes (factory recorded tunes) or Own melodies (downloadable vi a W AP or Comm. Port, or your personal recordings). 1. T o set ring tunes for incoming calls, sel ect Ring er set- ting > OK > Incoming calls > OK > Colleague… > OK.
22 Your XP1 phone Attach GPRS : allows contin uous GPRS connectivity when the option Always attached is selected. GPRS connectivity is required to initiate a PT T session. If you select the op tion Attached during PD P session, you can only m ake GSM calls.
23 Your XP1 phone Bearer : allows you to choose f rom two pr otocols f or WAP service. Y ou can either choose GSM only or GPRS only . GPRS is required to access the PT T service. GSM settings : The following GSM settings can be configured: Data call type : choose between ISDN and Analogue.
24 Your XP1 phone Send a namecard A namecard contains con tact de tails of an individual. Y ou can send a n amecard either fro m the Search optio n or the View list option in the Phone book. 1. T o send a namecard to another cont act, select Phonebk > View list > OK .
25 Your XP1 phone Copy or mo ve numbers to ot her lists To copy a number to the PTT Cont acts list On the home screen select Phonebk > View list > OK. Scroll to the contact you want to add to your PT T list and select Opti on > Add to contacts > OK > Save .

27 Make calls Make calls Before making a call you must ensure the follo wing: Keypad is not locked. A valid SIM car d is installed. Phone battery is charged. Phone is switched on and the network operator’ s name is displayed. Dial a number 1.
28 Make calls Add to contacts : adds the number to t he list of PT T contacts. Send PTT i nvitation: calls the PTT contact number . Delete: deletes the contact number from the call list. Add to reject list: moves the contact number to the reject list.
29 Make calls enable Call wa iting facil ity , ref er “Call waiti ng” on page 29. F orward a call If you are no t avail able or choo se not to answer a call, you can use t his functio n to forw ard you r incoming calls to a new number or an existing nu mber in the Phone book list, provided your network operator supports this service.
30 Make calls GPRS calls If the call w aiting f acility is enab led and you r eceive a GSM call while yo u are in a GPRS sess ion or a PT T session, the number of the caller is displayed on your phone.
31 Make calls 1. T o loc ate a black listed nu mber , on the Call filter screen, select Black list > Search > OK . 2. Scrolll to a number and select Option > Chang e > OK to modify a number or selec t Option > Delete > OK to remove a number f rom the black list .
32 Make calls R eview call information 1. Select Menu > Call list > Call meters > OK . The followi ng options ar e av ailable: Last call : displays the time at which the last conversa- tion was ma de. Last GPRS call : displays the transmit ted bytes of the last GPRS service.
33 Push-to-Talk Push-to-Talk The Sonim Xperience™ One (XP1) brings to you the Push- to- T alk ov er cellular (PoC) experience. Now you can turn your mobile p hone into a walk ie-talkie and have a one-to- one or one -to-many commu nication at the push of a key and the call communicatio n is almost instantaneous.

36 Push-to-Talk et al. Group featur e enables a us er to create a group, edit group name, rename a gro up, view a gr oup id and delete groups. 1. Select Menu , navig ate to the PTT > Group list > OK . 2. Select Option to view the Gr oups submenu.
37 Push-to-Talk Add contacts using the teleph one number 2. T o add new contacts to the group using a telephone number , on the Groups screen scroll to the group and select Option > Ed it/View members > Option > Add via number > OK . Enter th e Contact name and Number and select Save .
38 Push-to-Talk Edit/view chat group info rmation This option allows you to view , add, edit and delete mem- bers within a Chat group. Y ou can create a Chat group by adding members from the PT T Contacts list.
39 Push-to-Talk The updated Contacts list appears. Select Exit to revert t o the Call list. Send PTT invitation : dials a contact from the Outgo- ing calls list, pic k a contact and select OK > Option > OK > Send PTT invitation > OK .
40 Push-to-Talk the reject list an d send a PT T in vitation to a contac t, import a group and rejoin a group se ssion. F or instructions refer “Outgoing calls list” on page 38. Delete a list To delete a list (Outgoing, Answered or Missed calls list) 1.
41 Push-to-Talk 2. Release the PTT key when you finish speakin g. 3. When the other person takes fl oor control the top of the screen displays Start receiv ing Listen . 4. If you attempt to speak before the other pers on fin- ishes speak ing, Remote spea ker is display ed on top of the screen.

43 Messages Messages SMS is a convenient and inexpensive means of communica- tion. Y ou can send a text message to other people via this service. Y ou can use the SMS menu in your phone to send an SMS message to other mobile phon es or any other equipment that can receive SMS.
44 Messages 2. T o switch between upper and lower character case, use key 0 as a toggle key . 3. T o enter a character , pres s the numeric key repeatedly until the desired c har acter appears on the screen .
45 Messages Alternativel y select Option > Send now … > OK to send y our message. Other opt ions includ e: Send & save : Sends the message and saves a copy of the message. Save : saves the message in the memory . Save as user defined : saves the created message as a user defined SMS for r euse.
46 Messages Unsent messages Messages that ha ve been sa ved to be sent later or mes- sages that fail during transmission are stored in Unse nt messages. 1. T o access Unsent messages s elect Menu > Messages > SMS > Unsent messages > OK . 2.
47 Messages 1. T o add a topic select Menu > Messges > SMS > scroll t o Broadcast SMS > Topics > OK > Add > OK . 2. Enter the code (a maximum of three characters) pr o- vided by the servic e provider and select Add .
48 Tools Tools T ools are us ed to organize and manage your daily tasks sys- tematically . Organizer The Organizer has a calend ar to enable you to set appoint- ments, create appropriate notes , schedule reminders when required, set alerts and rep eat specific settings.
49 Tools Edit organizer entries 1. Select Menu > Tools > Organizer . 2. Scroll to a date and p ress the Menu key to display th e list of entries. 3. Choose an entry (either meeting or memo) and select Option > Change . Delete entries Y ou can delete one entry at a time or all entries simul ta- neously .
50 Tools Note: This phone accepts numbers up to a maximum of 10 di gits. Audio rec order Select Menu > Tools > Au dio recorder > OK . 1. T o record an audio file, on the Audio recorder screen select Record . 2. Select Pause to temporarily stop the recording.
51 Tools Universal time Y ou can view the time of major cities in differ ent time zones using this functi on and set the time on your phone to a selected tim e zone.
52 WAP WAP This mobile phone has an inte rnal WAP browser that allows you to browse contents of various W AP websites on the Internet. This facility is made available only if you subscribe to a dat a service f rom your network ope rator f or Interne t access.
53 WAP Rename profile : Specify a name f or the selected pro- file in this menu. The maximum lengt h of the name is 40 charact ers. Cache : This is a storage mech anism provided in the phone. Y ou can choose to enable the cache mode or clear the cache memory .
