Types of cassette you can us e in your camcor der Your ca mcorde r is capabl e of recordi ng in DVCAM and DV formats. When recordi ng in D V form at, Sony recomm ends that you use min i DV cassettes.
3 About m enu item s, LCD p anel, viewfi nder, a nd lens • A me nu item that is graye d out is not available under the curre nt record ing or playback co nditions. • The L CD screen and the vi ewfind er are manufac tured using ext remel y high- precision te chnology , so over 99.

9 Gettin g Started Step 2: A ttachin g the lens ho od with le ns cove r Align the mark s on the lens hood to those on the camcorder, an d turn the lens hood in the directi on of the arrow 2 .
10 Step 3: Charg ing the b attery pa ck You can charge the optional “InfoLITHIUM” battery pack (L series) with the supplied AC Adaptor. b Notes • You cannot use batteries other than the “InfoLITHIUM” battery pack (L series) (p. 103). 1 Press the ba ttery pack against the back of your camcorder and slide it do wn.
11 Gettin g Started Afte r cha rging the batte ry The CHG lamp turns off whe n the batte ry is fully cha rged. Disconn ect the AC Adaptor from the DC IN jack . z Tip s • You can check the remaining battery lif e with the battery info function (p. 49).
12 – The battery pack is too hot. Replace the battery pack, or remove it and put it in a cool place. • The power will not be supp lied from the battery as long as the AC Adaptor is connected to the DC IN jack of your camcorder, even when th e power cord (mains lead) is disconnected from the wall ou tlet (wa ll socket).

14 Step 5: Adjus ting the LCD pane l and vi ewfind er Open the LCD pane l 180 degree s ( 1 ), then rota te it to the be st an gle to recor d or p lay back ( 2 ). z Tips • You can record in mirro r mode by setting the LCD panel to face the subject. The image will be recorded normally.
15 Gettin g Started When the pict ure in the viewfi nder is hard to se e If you canno t see the pi cture in th e view finder c learly u nder bri ght circu mstances , use the suppli ed large eyecu p. To att ach th e large eyecup , stret ch it slightly and align it with the e yecup groove in the viewfi nder.
16 Step 6 : Sett ing t he date and ti me Set the dat e and time whe n using your camcord er for the first time. If you do not set the d ate and ti me, [CLOCK SET] screen appears eve ry time you turn on yo ur camcor der o r chang e the POWE R swi tch posi tion s.
17 Gettin g Started z Tip s • The date and ti me are a utomatically record ed on the tape, and can b e displayed during p layback (DATA CODE button, p. 48). . You can chan ge the on-sc reen di splays t o show messages in a specified language. Press the M ENU b utton and select (OTHERS) with the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial.
18 Step 7: In serting a ta pe or a “Memory Stic k Duo” media See page 99 for details on tapes incl uding which t apes can be used and how to protect from o verwriting tapes. 1 Slide and hold the OPEN/ EJECT lever in the direction of the arrow and open the l id.
19 Gettin g Started You can use on ly a “Memory St ick Duo” media mar ked with , or (p. 10 1). 1 Open the “Memory Stick Duo” media slot cover in the direction of the arrow. 2 Insert the “M emory Stick Du o” media into the “Memo ry Stick Duo” media slot in the correct direction until it clicks.
20 Recording/ Playback Record ing Your cam corder rec ords movies on tape and still ima ges on “M emory Stick Duo” media. Do the followi ng steps to record movies. 1 Open the shut ter of the lens hood. 2 Slide the POW ER switch to CAMERA whi le pressing the gr een button.

24 You ca n adjust the focus manual ly for different recording conditio ns. Use this functio n in the following cases. – T o record a subject behind a window covered with raindrops. – T o record horizontal stripes. – T o recor d a subject with little contrast betwe en the subject and its background.

28 z Tips • It is di fficult to focus au tomatically at a lower shutter speed. Manual focusing with your camcorder attached to a tripod is recommended. • The picture may flicker or cha nge colors under fluorescent lamps, sodiu m lamps, or mercury lamps.

32 KNEE To set the kne e point an d slope for vid eo signal com pression to reduc e over-ex posure by limiting sig nals in high con trast areas of th e subject to the dyn amic range of your cam corder. COLOR MODE To set type and le vel of colors. COLOR LEVE L To set t he colo r level.
33 Recordin g/Playback COLOR DEPTH To se t the co lor dep th for each c olor ph ase. This func tion is more eff ective for chromati c colors and less ef fective for achrom atic colors. The colo r looks d eeper as you increase the sett ing value to more positive si de, and lig hter as you decre ase the value to more negative side.
34 COLOR CORRCT (Continued) z Tips • Setting both m emories to the s ame setting d oubles the color correction effect. • The settings of [COLOR CORRCT] will be retained even if the power is turned off. However, if you want to correct colors that may c hange according to ti me of the day, weather, location, etc.

89 Troubles hooting The remain ing batter y time indicat or does not in dicate th e correct time . • Ambient temperature is too high or too low, or the bat tery pack ha s not been c harged enough. This is not a malfunct ion. • Fully charge the battery again.
