15 GB Getting Started – BASIC – 1 Connecting the Speakers Required cords The connector and color tube of the speaker cords ar e the same color as the label of the jacks to be connected. Note • Do not catc h the speaker cor d insulation in the SPEAKER jack.
16 GB Getting Started – BASIC – When you connect using the SCART (EURO AV) cord, check that the TV conforms to S video or RGB signals. If the TV conforms to S video, ch ange the input mode of the TV to RGB signals. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the TV to be connected.

Getting Started – ADV ANCED – 25 GB B To connect to a TV with the COMPONENT VIDEO IN jacks Connect a component video cord (not supplied). To use the CO MPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks (Y, P B / C B , P R /C R ), your TV monitor must be equipped with via COMPONENT VIDEO IN jacks (Y,P B /C B , P R /C R ).
26 GB x P AUTO (PROGRESSIVE AUTO) Select this setting when: – your TV accepts progressive signals, and, – the TV is connected to the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks. Normally select this under the above conditio n. Th is automatically detects the software type, and selects the appropriate conversion method.

32 GB Basic Operations You can choose a suitab le sound mode for movies or music. Press MOVIE/MUSIC during playback. Press MOVIE/MUSIC repeatedly until the mode you want lights up in the front panel display. The default setting is underlined. • AUTO : selects the mode automatically to produce the sound effect depending on the disc.
Sound Adjustments 33 GB You can take advantage of surround sound simply by selecting one of system’s pre- programmed sound fiel ds. They bring the exciting and powerful sound of movie theaters into your home. Press SOUND FIELD. Press SOUND FIELD repeat edly until the sound field you want appears in the front panel display.
34 GB Using only the front speaker and subwoofer x 2 CHANNEL STEREO This mode outputs the sound from the front left and right speakers and subwoofer. Standard 2 channel (stereo) sources completely b ypass the sound field processing. Multi channel surround formats are downmixed to two channels.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 35 GB You can quickly locate a particular point on a disc by monitoring the pi cture or playing back slowly. Note • Depen ding on the DVD/DivX video*/VID EO CD, you may not be able to do some of the operations described.
36 GB You can search a DVD by title or chapter, and you can search a VIDE O CD/CD/DA TA CD/ DATA DVD by track, inde x, or scene. As titles and tracks are assigned unique numbers on the disc, you can select the desired one by entering its number. Or, you can search for a scene using the time code.

38 GB To enjoy a disc that is played before by resume playback (Multi-disc Resume) (DVD VIDEO, VIDEO C D only) This system stores th e point where you stopped the disc for up to 40 discs and resumes playback the next time you insert the same disc.

40 GB You can have the system “shuffle ” tracks. Subsequent “shuffling” may produce a different playing order. Note • Same song may be playe d repeated ly during MP3 playback . 1 Press DISPLAY during playback. The Control Menu appears. 2 Press X / x to s elect [SHUFFLE], then press ENTER.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 41 GB You can play all the titles, tracks or albums on a disc or a single title, chapter, track, or album repeatedly. You can use a combination of Shuffle or Program Play modes. 1 Press DISPLAY during playback. The Control Menu appears.
42 GB A DVD is divided into a lot of sections, which make up a picture or music feature. These sections are called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, yo u can select the title you want using TOP MENU.

48 GB If subtitles are recorded on a d isc, you can turn the subtitles on or off while playing. If multilingual subtitles are recorded o n the disc, you can change the subtitle language while playing, or turn the subtitles on or off whenever you want.

50 GB When you insert a DATA CD or DATA DVD and press H , the numbered tracks (or files) are played sequentially, from 1 through 7 . Any sub-albums/tracks (or fi les) contained within a currently selected album take priority over the next album in the same tree.

The selected setting takes effec t. About DivX Video Files DivX ® is a video file compression technology, developed by DivX, Inc.

56 GB Ti p • If the number of viewing tim es is pres et, you can play the DivX vi deo files as many times as the preset number. The following o ccurrences are counte d: – when the sys tem is turn ed off. – when an other file i s played. – when th e disc tray i s opened.
T uner Functions 57 GB You can preset 20 FM stations, and 10 AM stations. Before tuning, make sure to turn d own the volume to minimum. 1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “TUNER FM” or “TUNER AM” appears in the front panel d isplay. 2 Press and hold TUNING + or – until the auto scanning starts.
58 GB Naming preset stations You can enter a name for preset stations. These names (for example, “XYZ”) appear in the system’s front panel disp lay when a station is selected. Note that no more than one name can be entered for each preset station.
T uner Functions 59 GB What is the Radio Data System? The Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcasting service that allows radio stations to send additional information along with the regular program signal. This tuner offers co nvenient RDS features, such as station name display.
60 GB You can control your TV (SONY only) with the supplied remote. Controlling TVs with the remote To control the TV You can co ntrol the TV by us ing follow ing buttons. - is for selecting a channel number greater than 10. (For example, for channel 25, press - , t hen 2 and 5.
Other Operations 61 GB Operating for the THEATRE SYNC function Point the remote to the direction of TV and this system, then press THEATRE SYNC once. If this function does not work, change the transmit time. The transmit ti me varies depending on the TV.
62 GB You can set the system to turn off at a preset time, so you can fall asl eep listening to music. You can preset the time in 10 minutes decrements. Press SLEEP. Each time you press this button, the minutes display (the remaining time) changes as follows: To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once.

64 GB To play a disc for which Custom Parental Control is set 1 Insert the disc for which Custom Parental Control is set. The [CUSTOM PARENTAL CONTROL] display appears. 2 Enter your 4-digit password using the number buttons, then press ENTER. The system is ready for playback.
