9 Gettin g Started Gettin g Started Step 1: Checki ng supp lied ite ms Make sure that you have follo wing items suppl ied with your camco rder. The number in the par enthe ses ind icat es the numb er o f tha t it em s uppli ed. • Memory cards are not included.

14 • Even if your camcorder is turned off, AC power (house current ) is still supplied to it while connected to the wall outlet (wall socket) via the AC Adaptor/Charger. Step 4: T urning th e power on and hold ing your camcor der prop erly To re cord or play back, set t he POWER swit ch to ON .

17 Gettin g Started Step 6: S ettin g the date and time Set the date and time when usin g your camcorde r for the first time. If yo u do not set the dat e and ti me, [CLOCK SET] screen appear s every time yo u turn on your camcorde r.

19 Gettin g Started Step 7: In serting a memor y card/A ttachin g a flas h memory un it 1 Open the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2 Orient the memory ca rd’s notched corner as shown in the illustr ation, a nd insert in to the memory card slo t until it clicks.
20 b Notes • You can only select a slot t hat already has a memory car d insert ed. • While movies are being recorded on the memory card, you cannot switch the slot even if you press the memory card slot A/B buttons. z Tips • When only one slot has a memory card inserted, the slot th at has th e memory card is sel ected automaticall y.
21 Recordin g/Playback Recording/P layback Recor ding Your ca mcorder record s movies on mem ory cards or a flash memory un it. Do the followi ng step s to reco rd movies . • This camcorder c an record movies in either high definit ion image quality (HD) or standard definition image qual ity (SD).
22 2 Slide the POW ER switch to ON w hile pressing the g reen button. 3 Press the record button or the handle record button. The reco rding lamp lights up durin g recordin g. To stop the movie record ing, press the re cord button or th e handle rec ord button a gain.
23 Recordin g/Playback b Not es • Do not eject the m emory card that is currently being used for recording. Replace only t he memory card whose slot lamp is off. • Even if you press the memory card slot button, A or B, while recording movies, you cannot switch the slot currently being used.

26 Changi ng the setti ngs of your camcor der reco rding s Move the pow er zoom le ver D slig htly for a slower zo om. Move it further for a faster zoom. z Tips • The minimum distance required between your camcorder and the subj ect for focus is about 1 cm (about 13 /32 in.
27 Recordin g/Playback You can adjust th e focus manuall y for differe nt recording c onditions. Use this functio n in the follo wing cases. – To recor d a subject behind a window covered with raindrops. – To recor d horizontal stripes. – To record a subject with little contrast b etween the subject and i ts background.
28 [EXPANDED FOCUS] is a ssigned to th e ASSIGN 7 b utton (p. 4 5). Press the ASSIGN 7 button. [EXPANDED FOCUS] appears and t he center of th e screen is m agnified by a bout 2.0 ti mes. It will be ea sier to confirm the focus settin g during manua l focusing.
29 Recordin g/Playback 2 When the iris is automati cally adju sted, press the IR IS button E . next to the iris valu e disappea rs, or the ir is va lue ap pears on t he sc reen.
30 [100] appe ars on the screen whe n you set the sh utter speed to 1 /100 sec ond. The l arger the va lue on th e screen , the faster the shutter speed. 4 Press the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial G to lock the shut ter speed . To readjust the shutte r speed, do steps 2 to 4 .
31 Recordin g/Playback memory A ( A) and mem ory B ( B), respec tive ly. Unles s a white ba lanc e is readj usted, valu es will remain even aft er t he power has be en turned off. 32 A or B starts flash ing rapidly. It will stay on when the whit e bal ance adju stment is complete d and the adjuste d value is stored in A o r B. b Notes • When a white balance adjus tment value has no t been obtained successfully, A or B turns from rapid flashing to slow flashing.

35 Recordin g/Playback KNEE To set kn ee point and slope for vide o signal compre ssion to preve nt over-exposu re by limitin g signals in high int ensity are as of t he subjec t to the d ynamic range of your c amcorder. COLOR MODE To set typ e and level of colo rs.
36 COLOR DEPTH To set the co lor depth for each color phase. This func tion is mor e effective for chroma tic colors and less effect ive for achrom atic colo rs. The color l ooks deeper as you i ncrease the settin g value to more posi tive side, and ligh ter as you decr ease the va lue to more ne gative side .

Item Description and settings [LEVEL ] S ets the deta il level. -7 to +7 [MANUAL SET] [ON/OFF] : Turns on and of f the manu al de tail ad just ment . [ON] : Enables the ma nual det ail adjust ment (a utomati c optimizat ion will not be performe d).

42 • If the GPS in dicator does not become a triangulating status indicator even after several minutes, the camcorder is having trouble with receiving GPS signals. You may start recording if you do not need to record location information, or go t o a location wi th access to the open sky.
43 Recordin g/Playback • The longer the recording time, the poorer the image quality. • The camcorder does not perform relay recording with the m emory cards d uring [S MOOTH SLOW REC]. If t he space on the memory card is insuff icient, the camcorder records m ovies only as long as there is space available.
44 The tim e code of this camcorde r synchroni zes with that of the conn ected camcorde r. [TC IN] appears on this camco rder screen . Follo wing condi tions must be sati sfied to input time c ode. • The T C LINK switc h is set to IN, and there are input ti me code data.

You can display the V ISUAL INDE X screen also by pre ssing the MO DE button , followed by touc hing [PLAY] t [VIS UAL INDEX] on the screen.

55 Recordin g/Playback b Not es • Select the jack to output signals with [OUT PUT SELECT]. • Output resoluti on depends on the settings of [S DI/HDMI/COMPONENT] . • If you set [SDI/HDMI/C OMPONENT] to [576p], no signals are output from the SDI OUT jack.

91 Troubles hooting The battery pack discharges too quickly. • Ambient tem perature is too hig h or low, or the battery pack has not been charged enough . This is not a malfunct ion. • Fully charge the battery again. If the prob lem persist s, the battery may be worn-out .
92 Trouble shooting (Continu ed) The remaining movi e recording indicator is no t displayed. • Set [ REMAINING] to [ON] to always display the rem aining movie recording ind icator (p. 84). The camcorder d oes not operate with the memory card inserted.
