4- GB – Introduction – The network function on the camcorder The camcorder can access the Internet through your provider using a dial-up networking connection with a Bluetooth device. You can view a Web page, and send and receive e-mail with the images recorded with your camcorder attached.
5- GB Introduction Overview of the Bluetooth wir eless technology What is the Bluetooth wireless technology? The Bluetooth wireless technology allows communication between various Bluetooth devices without using cables. Devices which can use this technology include PCs, computer peripheral devices, PDAs, and mobile phones.
6- GB Basic operations in the NETWORK mode This section describes basic control ways to operate the camcorder, those which are used for network operations. How to use the Network Menu To access the Network Menu, refer to “Accessing the network” in the operating instructions supplied with your camcorder.
7- GB Introduction How to use the control button Most of the network operations are carried out by the control button. Select a button on the screen using the control button, then enter it by pressing the control button. Note The shape of the control button differs depending on your camcorder model.
8- GB How to input characters You have to frequently enter characters, such as e-mail addresses, or Web page addresses (URL), to use the network function. This section describes how to input characters. 1 Selecting the character type ( 1 ) Display the character input screen.

When inputting the same character or the other characters on the same key, select another key using v / V / b / B on the control button, then select the previous key again.

While the browser screen is displayed, press BROWSER MENU on the camcorder to display the menu bar.
14- GB The buttons on the menu bar The buttons on the upper level Button Function (Previous Page) Go to the previous page in your step. (Next Page) Go to the next page in your step. (Refresh) Refresh the current page. Use this button when images or characters on the Web page are not displayed properly.
15- GB Preparation This section describes making a registration of a Bluetooth device. Here we describe the procedure for registering the Sony Modem Adaptor with Bluetooth Function. Once the registration is completed, the camcorder can connect to the Bluetooth device without reregistering the device.
16- GB 2 Specifying the Modem Adaptor with Bluetooth Function as the connection device ( 1 ) Open the Network Menu. For details on how to open the Network Menu, refer to “ Accessing the network ” in the operating instructions supplied with your camcorder.
17- GB Preparation ( 4 ) Select [Select], then press the centre z on the control button. The Bluetooth devices list appears. When making a registration for the first time, only [ Return] and [ New] are indicated. The list shows up to three Bluetooth devices.
18- GB ( 7 ) Enter the passkey. For details on how to input characters, see “ How to input characters ” on page 8. For example, when using the BTA-NW1 Modem Adaptor with Bluetooth Function, the passkey is its serial number which is indicated on the label on the rear panel.
19- GB Preparation When the registration has failed Carry out the procedure described in “ When using the Modem Adaptor with Bluetooth Function ” on page 15 again from step 4. Displaying information on your camcorder You can display your camcorder information.
20- GB ( 4 ) Select [Info.], then press the centre z on the control button. The Bluetooth Setup: Self information screen appears. To clear the Self Information screen Select [Return], then press the centre z on the control button. Radio wave indication indicates the radio wave status of the connected Bluetooth device.

22- GB Setting network pr efer ences You have to access the Internet to view a Web page, or send or receive your e-mail. This section describes how to set network preferences to access the Internet. Setting your provider preferences Set your provider preferences according to the requirements of your provider.
23- GB Preparation Setting network preferences ( 4 ) Set up the following items: ID: Enter the login name you use for accessing your provider using a dial-up connection.
24- GB Setting network preferences ( 5 ) Select the Mail tab. The Mail screen appears. ( 6 ) Set up the following items: User ID: Enter the user ID name you use for your provider. Password: Enter the password of your user ID for accessing the POP server.
25- GB Preparation ( 7 ) Select the Browser tab. The Browser screen appears. ( 8 ) Set up the following items: Proxy: Enter the proxy server address of your provider. Port: Enter the port number of the proxy server of your provider. This entry may be unnecessary, depending on your provider.
26- GB Setting network options preferences For the network options setup, you can use the network function even if the network options setup is left at the default settings. If you have set your preferences based on the requirements of your provider, you can access the Internet without modifying the items on the Network Options screen.
27- GB Preparation Setting network preferences Note Although you have selected a specific time for the “ Time Out ” function, the line connection may not be cancelled automatically, depends on the Web page you access. In this case, you can cancel the line connection manually.
28- GB Setting network preferences Note on “ Save Mail to Server ” When “ Save Mail to Server ” is not checked, copies of e-mail messages received will not be stored on your server. However, the following error messages described below depend on the type of e-mail messages.
29- GB Network Operation — Network Operation — Using e-mail This section describes the basic usage of e-mail. E-mail is sent and received via the Internet. E-mail is very convenient; you can send e-mail anytime, and you can also send images stored in a “ Memory Stick ” by attaching them to e-mail.
30- GB Using e-mail ( 3 ) Select [To], then press the centre z on the control button. The address list appears. The list shows the addresses that are registered in the address book. For details on the address book, see “ Using the address book ” on page 40.
31- GB Network Operation Using e-mail Tip If you notice that the e-mail address is wrong, you can correct it in the address book. For details on the address book, see “ Editing the address book ” on page 43. ( 7 ) If you want to send the e-mail message to other addressees, select other e-mail addresses.
32- GB Using e-mail 2 Entering the subject of a message ( 1 ) Select [Subject], then press the centre z on the control button. The subject list appears. The list shows up to six subjects. , When you want to use a subject shown on the list, select the subject, then press the centre z on the control button.

34- GB Using e-mail ( 4 ) Select [Enter], then press the centre z on the control button. The Send screen appears again. , 4 Sending e-mail Tip You can send an e-mail message with your signature. For details, see “ Attaching your signature to a message ” on page 38.
35- GB Network Operation Using e-mail ( 5 ) Select [Connect], then press the centre z on the control button. The camcorder starts dialling the selected telephone number. After the sending is completed, the message “ Sending Mail Complete ” appears.
36- GB Using e-mail ( 3 ) Select the message you want to check or modify, then press the centre z on the control button. The following screen appears. , ( 4 ) Check or modify the message. When the message is long, select the message area, then press the control button V repeatedly to scroll the message.
37- GB Network Operation Using e-mail Attaching images to e-mail You can send images by attaching them to e-mail messages. Preparation Store the desired images in the “ Memory Stick ” and insert it into the camcorder.
38- GB Using e-mail ( 4 ) Repeat step 3 to select other images. Note The total number of images you can attach is 99, and the attachable file size is up to 3 MB. ( 5 ) Select [ OK], then press the centre z on the control button. The Send screen appears again.

Tips • The addresses are listed in alphabetical order. • When you reply to the address of a previously received e-mail message, the address will be automatically registered on the address book.
44- GB Using e-mail ( 3 ) Select [Name] or [Address], then press the centre z on the control button. When modifying the name, select [Name], and when modifying the address, select [Address]. The character input screen appears. , ( 4 ) Modify the name or address.
45- GB Network Operation Using e-mail Selecting the destination address from the address book You can select the destination address from the address book. ( 1 ) Follow steps 1 and 2 in “ Registering destination addresses in the address book ” on page 40.
46- GB Using e-mail Receiving e-mail Once you receive e-mail, you can reply to it or forward it. Preparation • Insert a “ Memory Stick ” into the camcorder, for storing images.
47- GB Network Operation Using e-mail ( 3 ) Select [Receive], then press the centre z on the control button. The screen for verifying the connection appears. Set the Bluetooth device to connection standby with the camcorder beforehand. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the Bluetooth device.
48- GB Using e-mail ( 6 ) When an e-mail message has been received, select where area that the message is displayed, then select the message using the control button b / B , then press the centre z on the control button. 49- GB Network Operation URL included in an e-mail message When a URL (http://...) is typed in the message, select the URL, then press the centre z on the control button. The browser starts automatically and accesses the indicated Web page. Notes • The total number of e-mail message characters allowed is 4000.
50- GB Using e-mail ( 2 ) Select the area where a message is indicated, then select the message you want to reply to using the control button b / B , then press the centre z on the control button. 51- GB Network Operation Forwarding the message to another person – Forward You can forward a downloaded message to another person. ( 1 ) Display the Receive screen. 54- GB V iewing Web pages A site that posts information on the Internet is called a “ Web Page ” or “ Web site ” . You can easily retrieve information by accessing a Web site on the Internet. Viewing Web pages 1 Entering the URL needed to access the Web page Enter the address of the Web page, and then access the Internet.
55- GB Network Operation Viewing Web pages ( 4 ) Enter the URL. For details on how to input characters, see “ How to input characters ” on page 8. ( 5 ) Select [Enter], then press the centre z on the control button. The screen used for verifying the connection appears.
56- GB Viewing Web pages Note on connection status indication The connection status is indicated on the top of the screen. This item also shows a connected time and the address of the Web page. The connecting time indication should be used as a guide.
57- GB Network Operation Viewing Web pages ( 2 ) When the menu bar is not displayed, press BROWSER MENU on the camcorder. The menu bar appears. ( 3 ) Select (Bookmark), then press the centre z on the control button. The bookmark list appears. , ( 4 ) Select [ Add], then press the centre z on the control button.

59- GB Network Operation Viewing Web pages To delete bookmarks You can delete bookmarks. We recommend that you delete unnecessary bookmarks since you can only store up to 30 bookmarks. ( 1 ) Select (Bookmark), then press the centre z on the control button.

The meanings of the file names are as follows. sssss stands for any number within the range from 00001 to 99999.
