15 Hookup s and Settings b Not es • Do not connect your TV’s audio outp ut jacks to the LINE 1 IN (AUDIO L/ R) jacks at the same time. This will cause unwanted noise to com e from your TV’s speakers. • With connection B , do not connect the LINE 1 IN (AUDIO L/R) and LINE OUT ja cks to your TV’s audi o output j acks at th e same tim e.
16 Step 5: Pr epari ng the Remote You c an co ntrol the record er u sing t he su ppli ed remote. In sert two size AA (R6) batteries by matchi ng the 3 and # ends on the bat teries to the markings inside the battery c ompartment. When using t he remote, point it at the r emote senso r on th e re corder .

24 Conne cting the US B Device You can connect a USB memor y to the USB j ack on the re corder to play the MP 3 audio trac ks or JPEG image file s. 26 Insert ing an d Forma tting a Disc Whe n you firs t inse rt a new disc, th e reco rder wi ll ask you t o format th e disc. F ollow the steps be low to fo rmat the disc . You ca n also re forma t a DVD+RW or DVD-RW to create a blank disc. 1 Turn on the TV.

28 Viewi ng the Record ed Progr am (Titl e List) The t itl es of p rogr ams re corde d on a disc are displaye d in the Title List, which a lso displays disc in forma tion, suc h as disc name, rem aining time, et c. Follow t he steps belo w to play t he reco rded p rogr am.
29 Basic O peration To searc h for a specific po int of th e title Select [ Search ] and pres s ENTER in step 4. S elect [Time] an d press ENT ER. While watchin g the prev iew, press < / , to select th e start point. Each press moves the point forw ard or back ward one m inute (o r five min ute if you hold ).
30 Check ing th e Play back Inform ation an d Play ing Time You can check th e playback i nformat ion and remaining t ime displaye d on the TV scr een by pre ssing DISP LAY re peat edly . The i tems displaye d differ de pending on the disc ty pe or playi ng status.
31 Basic O peration Changi ng th e Name o f a Record ed Prog ram (Titl e Input) The ti tles re corded on a disc ar e named sequential ly ([Title 1], [Tit le 2], …) by default. You can ren ame titles using the d isplay fo r enter ing char acters, which als o appear s for renam ing a di sc.
32 • To insert a chara cter, move the cu rsor to the righ t of th e pos ition where you wa nt to i nsert the ch aract er. Sel ect th e charac ter fr om the character palette and p ress ENTER. 7 Repeat steps 5 and 6 to enter the remaining characters.
33 Basic O peration b Not e Label the dis c before you finaliz e it. Once a disc is finalized, you cannot change the disc name. You ca n protect a ll titles on the di sc to preve nt accide ntal reco rding, editing, or erasing. 1 Insert a disc. 2 Press SYSTEM MENU to t urn on th e System Menu.

37 Record ing Leave the cab le box/sate llite re ceiver turn ed on. Do not c hange the c han nel se lect ed on t he cable box/sa tellite receiv er during recordi ng. To stop recording during timer r ecording Switch the i nput sele ctor on your TV so that th e confi rmation appears on t he TV sc reen.
38 2 Select a tim er se tting an d pre ss EN TER. The Timer Record me nu in step 4 o f “Timer Reco rding From Connect ed Equipm ent” (page 36 ) appear s. The in put, dat e, start and stop times, r ecording mode, and c hannel for the sele cted timer settin g appear.
39 Record ing Record ing Withou t the Timer 1 Insert a recordable disc. 2 Press INPU T rep eatedly to select the connect ed input (L1). 3 Selec t the chann el on the ca ble box/ satellite r e ceive r’s side. 4 Press REC MODE re peated ly to s elect the recording mode.
40 To che ck the Q uick Ti mer Press z REC once while re cording. The remai nin g record ing time and other reco rding informa tion (chan nel, record ing mode, et c.) appear momenta rily on the TV screen. 41 Record ing Recor ding F rom a VC R or Simila r Device You can record from a connect ed VCR or similar device. To conn ect a VCR or simila r device, s ee “Connecting a VCR or Similar Devi ce” (page 21). Use the D V IN jack on the fro nt panel if the equipm ent has a D V output jack (i.

43 Playback To play VIDEO CD s with PB C functi ons PBC (P layback Con trol) allow s you to play VIDE O CDs i nteract ively us ing the menu on y our TV screen. When you start playing a VIDEO CD with PBC function s, the menu appears. Select an item usi ng the num ber button s and press ENTER.

48 Playi ng Music CDs and MP3 Audio Tracks The reco rder ca n play mu sic CD s and MP 3 audio tracks on DATA CDs/DATA DVDs and USB memo ry. For detai ls about MP 3 audio trac ks, see page 80. To play from the USB memory, see p age 43. 1 Insert a disc.
