Getting Started 4 Getting Started Step 1 Unpacking Check that you have received the following items with the VCR: Checking your model name The instructions in this manual are for the 2 models: SL V -E730EX and E730UX. Check your model number by looking at the r ear panel of your VCR.

Getting Started 18 Manual setup — Setting up VIDEO Plus+ VIDEO Plus+ is a featur e that simplifies pr ogramming the VCR to make timer recor dings. T o use VIDEO Plus+, each pr ogramme position needs to be matched with its VIDEO Plus+ guide channel.

Getting Started Getting Started 21 Setting up VIDEO Plus+ for satellite br oadcasts When your satellite tuner is connected via the AERIAL IN connector , first you have to set the programme position for each satellite channel using the TUNER menu. Then set the guide channel number for each satellite channel using the VIDEO PLUS+ menu.
Getting Started 22 Manual setup — Setting the clock Y ou must set the time and date on the VCR to use the timer r ecor ding features properly . If the VCR clock was not set in the Auto Set Up pr ocedure, you need to set it manually . The Auto Clock Set function works only if a station in your area is br oadcasting a time signal.

Getting Started 26 1 Hold down P P AUSE and ON/ST ANDBY on the VCR simultaneously for mor e than three seconds. Setting your personal code For identification, you can enter a personal code into the VCR. Once you enter your personal code, you can confirm it any time but can never change it.

43 Additional Operations Recording TV pr ogrammes using the quick timer After starting recor ding in the normal way , you can have the VCR stop recor ding automatically after a specified duration. 1 While recording, press QUICK TIMER once. The indicator appears in the display window .

49 Additional Operations Adjusting the picture Adjusting the tracking Although the VCR automatically adjusts the tracking when playing a tape (the indicator flashes in the display window , then goes off), distortion may occur if the tape was r ecor ded in poor condition.
Additional Operations 50 Tip • T o set tracking to the centr e position, press the TRACKING + and – buttons at the same time. Notes • Y ou can adjust the tracking for the NTSC-r ecorded tape but the tracking meter won’t be displayed. • W ith the Auto T ape Speed function on, the OPC function will work only in SP mode.

56 Additional Information T roubleshooting (continued) Symptom The picture rolls vertically during picture sear ch. The picture has no sound. The sound is unstable or has an echo. No TV programme appears on the TV scr een. TV r eception is poor . The tape starts playing as soon as it is inserted.
57 Additional Information Symptom A tape cannot be inserted. The remote commander does not function. The tracking meter does not appear on the TV screen. Y ou cannot contr ol other TVs. The VCR needs to be cleaned. The SECURITY FUNCTION menu doesn’t appear on the TV screen.
