14 Charging the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries • If the poles of the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are dirty , the batteries may not charge properly. Occasionally clean the poles of the batteries and the terminals of the char ger by wiping them wi th a dry cloth .

19 Gett ing starte d Turning on/off your camera , Slide the lens cover in t he direction of the arrow or pres s th e PO W ER bu tton. When y ou open t he lens cover or press the POWER button , the po wer is au tomatica lly on. The POWER lamp (gre en) light s up.
20 Setting the date and time , Slide the lens co ver in the direc tion of the arro w or pres s the POWE R but ton to turn on the power. The P OWER lamp ( green) l ights up and t he DATE NOTATION screen appears on the LCD screen. • This operation is av ailabl e no matter what position the mode switch is in.

25 Shooting still images Image size You can ch oose th e imag e size (numbe r of pixel s) accordi ng to the kind of i ma ge s you w a nt to shoo t. Larger image sizes result in a larg er data size, which means f ewer im ages that you can record i n a “Mem or y Stick.
26 Basic still image shooting (using auto adjustment mode) , Set the mode switch to STILL, and slide the lens co ver to tur n on th e pow er. • Still images are recorded in JPEG format . • The exposure and focus are adjusted automatically at the factory setting.

78 Troublesh ooting Troubleshooting If you experi en ce tro ubl e with yo ur camer a, try the following so lutions. 1 First check the items on th e tables below. If code displays “C: ss : ss ” ap pear on the LCD screen, the self-diagnostics display functio n is w orking (page 86) .
Troublesh ooting 79 Shooting images The battery life is short. • You are shooting/viewing images in an extremely cold location. • The batteries are not charged enough. • The batteries are dead (page 93). — p Charge the batter ies (page 1 6). p Replace the batteries with a new one.
80 Your camera cannot record images. • No “Memory S tick” is inserted. • The capacity of the “Memory Stick” is insufficie nt. • The write-protect switch on the “M emory Stick” is set to t he LOC K position. • You cannot s hoot while the flash is charging.
Troublesh ooting 81 Viewin g images Dele t in g im ag es Symptom Cause So lution Your camera cannot play back images. • The m ode switch is not se t to PLAY. • Your camera may not play back image files copied from the hard disk of your computer if the file na me or file si ze ha s been changed or t he image has been modified.
82 Computer s Sym pto m Cause Solution You do not know if the OS of your computer is compatible. — p Check “Recommended computer environment” (page 56). You cannot install the USB driver. — • You are attempting to insta ll the USB driver on a machine that is not running a supported OS.
Troublesh ooting 83 “Memory Sti ck ” You cannot turn on the camera during USB connection. • The camera and your computer are connected through a hub. p Connect the camera directly t o your computer, or use a hub with output of 500 mA. The image cannot be played back on a computer.
