8 Installing or removing the battery Your smartphone uses a replaceable ba ttery to provide power. It is packe d seperately from your smartphone and need s to be inserted and charged before you can use th e smartphon e. Installing the battery Insert yo ur finge rnail into th e cutout between the battery cover and th e phone.
9 Installing a SIM or microSD Card Installing a SIM or microSD Card To take full advantage of your smartp hone’s telephony ca pabilities, you must install a SIM card.
10 Chapter 2: Using your Smartphone Turning on for the first time To turn on your smartphone for the first time, press and hold the power button until the screen turn s on. You will then be aske d to configure some settings before you can us e your smartph one.
11 Using the touchscreen To wake your smartphone, press the power button. Your smartp hone will di spla y the locked screen; drag the padlock ic on to the right to enter the Home screen. For additional secu rity, you ma y set an unlock pattern, a set of dots that must be tapped in the correct or der to access the phone.
12 Text assistance The standard An droid keyboa rd has various fea tures that ass ist you to ent er correct text. Tap Menu > Se ttings > Language & keyboard > XT9 Text Input . From here you c an enable or di sable the followin g: The Android keyboard This is a standard QWERTY keyboard that al lows you to enter text.
13 The Home screen The Home screen After rebooting, your smartphone will display the Home screen. This screen gi ves you quic k, icon-bas ed access to many of the frequently-us ed features of your smartphone. The first time you start your smartphone, you will see som e icons on the screen.
14 (such as a new message). The icons on th e right side indicate signal strength, connection, battery status and the time . Drag the Notification area down the screen, or tap the a rea, to view mor e information about new events.
15 The Home screen Adding or removing s hortcuts or widgets To add shortcuts or widget s, tap an d hold anywhere on the Home screen to open the Add to Home screen menu. Tap Shortc uts to open a list of quic k links to applications and settings you ca n add to the Home screen.
16 Chapter 3: Managing contacts Managing your contacts Your smartphone features an address bo ok that allows you to save contacts to either the internal memory or onto your SIM card. Tap Con tacts from the Home screen or the Contacts tab from the Dialer to view your contacts.

20 Chapter 5: Messaging This cha pter show s you how to se t up and use the SMS an d MMS func tions of your smartphone. All SMS and MMS mes sages are accesse d via Mess aging. Messaging aut omatically arranges received and sent messages into threads. To access Messaging tap Me ss aging on the Home screen .
21 Replying to a message Replying to a message When a new text message arrives a messa ge icon appears in the Notification area and the message icon on the top of the phone lights up. Tap Messaging on the Home screen to view the message list or expand the Notification area to see a summary of the message .
22 Receiving MMS messages When a new MMS message arrives, a mess age icon appears at the top of the screen and a notification message is displayed. 1. Open Messaging to view a summar y of the message. 2. Tap Do wnload to download the message content. Note : Downloads can take a lon g time, depending on your conne ction quality.
23 Browsing the Interne t Chapter 6: Going online Browsing the Internet In order to browse the Internet with your smartphone, you must be connected to a data or wireless network. Using the browser Tap Browser on the Home screen to start brow sing. To open a new website, tap the address box at the top of the page .
24 Voice Search Note : Voice search is available only in some regions. You can search the Internet using your voice. Open Voice Search from the applications tab, or p ress and hold th e Search button. Stat e your query when you see the “Speak now” prompt.
25 Online applications • Facebook : View your Facebook profile an d keep up-to-da te with yo ur friends. • Ma ps : Get easy-to-follow di rections us ing Google Maps. • Yo uTube : View the Most viewed and Most discussed video clips on TouTube. 26 Chapter 7: Using the Camera Your smartphone features a 5-megapixel digital came ra moun ted o n the rear. This section will take yo u through all the steps in taking photos an d videos with your smartphone. Note : You need to have a mi croSD Ca rd insert ed into the microSD slot before using the camera.

28 Viewing photos and videos After you have taken you r photo or video, it is aut omaticall y saved. Once you have taken a phot o or video, you can view it in Ga llery by tappin g the thumbnail icon in the upper right corner. Alternati vely, open the Applications tab and tap Gallery .

31 Phone settings Selecting a network Your phone wil automaticall y detect y our carrier/network settings when you insert a new SIM card. However, you may prefer to manually select a net work. This may be a good idea when roaming. Tip : When you are traveling, manu ally selecting a network may help to redu ce your roaming charges.
32 urFooz urFooz is yo ur portab le profil e that lives where you live. • Fooz Creator lets you create a Fooz avatar, wh ich is your virtual look-a-like. • Fooz World lets you edit an d manage your Fooz avatar(s), create new avatars and share them on Facebook, MySpace, blo gs and more.
33 Connectin g to a PC Select Switch Avat ar to change your default avatar, modify existing avatars, or create a new avatar. Sharing your Fooz card and avatar urFooz lets you share your Fooz card with f riends by posting it to your socia l networks, blogs, and websites; or emaili ng it to friends.

35 Multimedia playback Exploring Spinlets widgets When you select an album, you will see a Spinlet. To play the featured song, select the red Play butt on. To play selected songs, sele ct the Music tab and choose which song s you wou ld like to pl ay.
36 Adjusting the volume Adjust the volume of your phone usin g the volume button on the side of the phone. Alternatively, you can se t the Ringer volume and Media volume by opening the Applic ations tab and going to Setti ngs > Soun d & display .
37 Resetting yo ur smartphone Resetting your smartphone You may have to perform a reset if yo ur smartphone fails to respond when buttons are pre ssed or the screen is tapped. Note : Before performing a reset, ensure that your smartphone is not locked.
