5 Setting up Unpacking your smartphone Y our new smartphone comes packed in a protective box. Carefully unpack the box and remove the contents. If any of the following items is missing or damaged, con.
6 Installing or removing the battery Y our smartphone u ses a replaceable b attery to provide power . It is packed separately from your smartphone and n eeds to be inserted and charged before you can use the smartphone . Installing the battery Insert your fingernail into the cutout between the battery cover and th e phone.
7 Align the tabs on the cover into the slots on the phone. Gently press the cover until it snaps in place. CAUTION: RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BA TTER Y IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT TYPE. DISPOSE OF USED BA TTERIES ACCO RDING T O THE INSTRUCTIONS ON p age 60.
8 Additionally , you may wish to increase your smartphone’s storage by inserting a microSD Card into the slot provide d. This is next to the SIM card slot. 1. T urn off the phone by pressing and holding th e power button. 2. Open the cover and remove the battery as described in "Removing the ba ttery" on p age 7 .
9 Using your smartphone T urning on for the first time T o turn on your smartphone for the first time, press a nd hold the power button until the screen turns on. Y ou will then be asked to configure some settings before you can use your smartphone . Follow the onscreen instructions to comp lete setup.
10 W aking your smartphone If the screen is off and the sm artpho ne does not react to any taps on the screen or front p anel button, then it has been locked and is in sleep mode. Press the power butt on to wa ke your smartphone. Unlock your smartphone by sliding your finger from one side of the screen to the other (it works both ways).
11 Using the touchscreen Y our smartphone uses a touchscre en for selecting items and entering information. Use your finger to tap the screen. Ta p : T ouch the screen once to open items and select op tions. Drag : Ho ld your finger on the screen and dr ag across the screen to select text and images.
12 Swype Swype is a fast way to enter text. It allows you to type with one continuous motion across the screen ke yboard; you create a word by drawing through letters. Put your finger on the first letter of the word and draw a path from letter to letter , lifting up only after the last letter .
13 The Home screen After rebooting, your smartphone will disp lay the ho me screen. This screen gives you quick access to informatio n and simple controls with widgets or shortcuts.
14 Note: In order to search or browse the Internet, you must be connected to a cellular data (if available) or wireless network. See “Going onlin e” on p age 30. V oice search If voice search is available, tap the microphone and speak your search request.
15 Adding and removing shortcuts and widget s To add shortcuts or widgets, ta p the Application menu icon in the bottom-center of the Home screen. Ta p APPS to see a list of shortcuts to applications you can drag to a Home screen.

19 Multitasking Y ou can have multiple applications op en at the same time. T o open a new application, tap the home button to return to the Home screen, then start the new application. Tip : T o prolong battery life, it is better to close an application when you’ve finished using it.
20 Managing cont act s Managing your contact s Your smartphone features an address book that allo ws you to save cont acts to either the internal memory or onto your SIM card. Open the Co nt acts application from the Application menu or tap from the Dialer to view your contact s.
21 Making calls This chapter shows you how to ma ke phone calls, and the various options avail able to you during your call. Before making a call Check that the phone function is on befo re you make a call. Y ou can confirm the phone status from the Notification area.
22 Viewing missed calls Missed call notifications are displ ayed in the following three areas: 1. The Notification area with the missed call icon. Open the Notification are a and tap the missed call notifica tion to display the missed call details. 2.
23 The voice call screen Y ou can minimize the call window to appe ar as a movable dialog instead of a who le screen by tapping the icon. Y ou can even set this "floating" dialog box as the default voice call scree n. T o do so, open th e Notification area and tap the Float caller button.
24 V oice call options • Add a second call • Record the co nversation. Saving a dialed number to contact s Y ou can save a number you have dialed to your contacts for future use. 1. Select the number from the Call lo g tab, and t ap Add to contact s .
25 Internet calling Y ou can place and receive Internet calls over wirele ss network. Adding an Internet calling account From the Applications menu, tap Settings , then tap More... under WIRELESS & NETWORKS . T ap Call settings > In ternet Call .
26 Important : Calling a phone number using Internet calling requ ires that your service provider supports it, and may incur additional charg es. Please contact your service provider if you have any questions.
27 Messaging This chapter shows you how to set up and use the Phone messages , Social messages and Social events functions of your smartphone. All SMS and MMS messages are accessed via Mes saging . Messaging automatically arranges received and sent messages into threads.
28 Replying to a message When a new text message arrives a message icon appears in the Notification ar ea and the message icon at the bottom of the phone displays the number o f unread text messages. Ta p Messaging on the Home screen to view the me ssage list or open the Notification area to see a summary of the message.
29 Note : Downloads can take a long time, depending on your conne ction quality . If you reply or open another applic ation, the download will be stopped. Important : Y ou may be charged to download message content, e specially if you are roaming. Please contact your provider if you have any questions.
30 Going online Browsing the Internet In order to browse the Internet with your smartphone, you must be connected to a data or wireless network. Using the browser T o start browsing, tap the Chrome icon on the Home screen, or open the Application menu and select Chrome .

35 AcerCloud setup AcerCloud is a personal cloud service that allows you to access your files over the Internet, and make sure you r most important files are always up to date. W ith your personal cloud all your devices (PC, ta blet, phone) with AcerCloud installed can access files on your main Cloud PC.
36 Install AcerCloud Double-click on the AcerCloud icon, then double-click on AcerCloudSetup . Follow the instructions to install AcerCloud. Sign in using your Acer ID S tart the AcerCloud program from the desktop or S tart Menu. If you already have an Acer ID, use your email address and password to sign in to yo ur AcerCloud account.
37 After entering the informati on, tap Next to apply for an Acer ID. Check your email account for an Acer ID activation message and click on the lin k in the email to activate your Acer ID device. AcerCloud options When you install AcerCloud, you have severa l options.

39 Using the Camera Y our smartphone features two digital ca meras mounted on the front and on the rear . This section will take you through all the st eps in taking photos and videos with your smartphone. T o activate the camera, tap Camer a on the Home screen, or open the Applications menu and tap Camera .
40 Settings menus General Y ou may adjust the follow ing: • T urn GPS info on or off: S tor es GPS information in the image information. • Exposure : Over- or under-exposes th e image. • Color effect : Applies a color effect to the image. • Scene mod e : Adjust photo parameters fo r a particular environment.
41 • T urn Face detection on or off: The camera automatically detects faces and focuses on them. • Set the Self timer : Op tions are Off, 2 seconds or 10 seconds. • Con tinuous s hot : Set the maximum number of ph otos taken in a si ngle burst. • Picture size : Set the picture resolution.
42 • A blue dot shows the center of the next image; move the camera so the dot is in the cen- ter of the screen; your smartphone will t hen automatically capture a n image and select the center of the next section of th e image. Repeat to captu re all images.
43 Advanced settings Putting your smartphone in Airplane mode You can enter Airplane mode (also known as fligh t mode) to turn off telephone and Bluetooth functions and use your smartphone as a handheld device during a flight. Ch eck with yo ur airline to make sure this is permitted onboa rd.
44 Important : If your phone is in Airplane mode, th e option to turn Bluetoo th on will be disabled. Please refer to "Putting your smartphone in Airp lane mode" on pa g e 4 3 for instructi ons on turning Airplane mode on or off.
45 Wi-Fi ho tsp ot Y ou can turn your smartphone into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot to share your mobile Internet connection with up to 8 clients. 1. Push the Menu button and th en tap Settings > More... > T e thering & portable hotspot . T urn Wi-Fi hotspot ON .

The device will commun icate with your provid er and automatically obtain all necessary settings, such as network name, voi ce mail and text message center numbers.
47 Connecting to a PC If you wish to transfer info rmation between the microSD Card in your phone and your computer, you can connect your phone to a PC using the supplied USB cable. Plug the USB sync cable into th e micro USB connector on yo ur smartphone.
48 FM radio The FM radio allo ws you to listen to your fa vorite st ations while on the move. Headphones must be inserted to the 3.5 mm jack as it functions as an antenna. Y ou can access the radio by tapping FM Radio from the Application menu. T ap the back icon to turn the radio of f.
49 Closing an application T o close an active application, in the Application menu tap Settings > App s . Swipe over to the Running tab, then t ap the program you wish to close. Select St op to close the program. Uninstalling an application Y ou can remove programs installed on your smartphone to free up extra storage memory .
50 Accessories and tip s This chapter shows you how to use accessories with your smartphone, as well as provide useful ti ps for when you are using you r smartphone. Using the headset Y our smartphone is compatible with hea dsets with built-in microphone fo r handsfree use when making calls.
51 Managing your SIM cards If your phone detects a new SIM card, you will be asked to confirm the preferred SIM to use for each action. It indicates the following information: 1. The color used for each SIM card and its network name. 2. The preferred SIM for ou tgoing calls.
52 Selecting which SIM to use when sending a text message If you have set Messaging to Always ask , you will be asked which SIM to use each time you send a text message. Enter the message and recipient information, then tap Send . A dialo g opens; tap the SIM to use and the message will be sent.
