4 Wher e Stu is At (The Lay out) Indicator LEDs The Atom HD c an ’t talk, so it’ s got these nif ty indicator LEDs to let y ou know what’ s up. Screw Thr ead Mount It ’ s the same size as the tripod mount on most camc orders and digital SLRs.
5 Slots , Ports and Batteries USB P or t F or charging, comput ers and composite video output. microSD Car d Slots F or inser ting microSD cards and nothing else. Opening the Battery Compartment Don ’t open the batter y case unless necessary or instructed to do so .
6 Pushing Butt ons (a.k .a. an “ Op er ating Guide ”) P ower Button Press and hold t o turn the camera ON or OFF . V ideo Record Initiates video recor ding. When in the menus , this button acts as the DOWN arrow . Light T urns the front light ON and OFF .
7 T aking it to the Depths ( W aterproof C ase) Locking Clasp Pretty impor tant - the case w on’ t work at all unless this is properly locked and secured . Seriously , we can ’t stress this enough. If you’v e got any concern about the integrity or the case or the locking clasp , don ’t use it.
8 Getting Star ted Right. So: you ’ve got the Atom HD . It ’ s F riday afternoon, and you’ re headed out skating on Saturday morning and you w ant to get the Atom HD setup and ready t o rock and/or roll.
9 A few things you really hav e to get right: Light F requenc y & Video S ystem The V ideo Syst em setting must be set correctly for y our location if you want the highest quality playback possible.
10 Choosing a microSD card: The Atom HD will ac cept a microSD card up to 32GB in capacity . Y ou can store between 7 ~ 30 minutes worth of video per gigabyte (GB).
11 Y ou Got the P ow er: Charging the Batt er y The LEDs are here... right her e. The Atom HD char ges via the mini USB socket on the rear panel. • Inser t the mini-USB plug on the USB cable into the USB socket on the rear of the At om HD. • Connect one end of the USB adapter or cable to a USB port or USB charger (up to 1000mA ).
12 Resolution: Choosing It The Atom HD can recor d at three dierent r esolutions: 720p ( 1280 x 720 ), 1080pS (anamorphic 1440 x 1080) and 1080p ( 1920 x 1080 ). Wh y would you w ant to record a t a lower resolution? Believe it or not, there ar e ac tually a few r eally good reasons to recor d at 720p .
13 Fr ame Rate The At om HD is capable of shooting at higher frame rates than standard video . Standard video frame rat es are 30fps for NTSC syst ems and 25fps for P AL/SECAM systems . 14 Showing y our Quality How much can I rec ord to a microSD card? Depends on a couple of things, r eally. The resolution, frame r ate and quality settings will all have prof ound eects on your data consumption. Check out the table for a quick rundown: Setting Resolution Appro x.
15 Seeing how cool y ou are (Pla yback) There ar e t wo w ays to playback videos fr om the Atom HD , depending on your needs and acc ess to equipment. The options are: Playback via a C omputer Pr ovided your computer meets the minimum specs to pla yback the Atom HD’ s videos (most modern computers will).
16 Y ou can transfer data from the micr oSD card onto a computer f or the highest quality playback possible. There are two options for downloading data to a comput er: USB Cable • T urn the Atom HD o . • Connect the Atom HD to your c omputer using the USB cable.
17 HDMI & C omposite V ideo Playback Y ou’ ll need A HD - T V or high resolution monitor with HDMI IN and a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable . • Remove the port cover from the At om HD . • Connect an HDMI cable to the mini-HDMI output on the side panel of the Atom HD .
18 A djusting the Lens The lens on the fron t of the camera can have its focus adjust ed. W e set the focus for typical use bef ore shipping the cameras out, so you shouldn ’t need to adjust an ything. The focus is set fr om approximately 1m to innity for non-underwater use.
19 Options, Options: The Onscr een M enus Photo Menu Photo Quality 3M 2592 x 1728 pixels . I mages require appr oxmimately 2MB each (500 or so per GB). 5M 2592 x 1944 pixels . I mages require appr oximately 2 - 2.5MB each (400 or so per GB). 8M 3200 x 2400 pixels (interpolat ed).
20 T ime Stamp On / O Stamps the time and date onto y our video images. Once the time stamp is applied , it ’ s a part of the video and cannot be removed. T ime L apse Rec O , 1fps, 1fpm, 2fpm, 6fpm Time lapse video will make everything seem like it’ s in super- dooper-mega-fast-forward.
21 Motion Detection O , Lo w , Medium, High When OFF , the camera will function normally. When enabled, the camera can aut omatically detect things moving about infront of it. There are three lev els of sensitivit y . If you want to use this function, experiment with the sensitivity a bit - that way y ou’ll know what to expect.
22 Mounting the Camer a Aiming the Camer a: The L CD screen on the rear of the camera will show y ou exac tly what the camera is looking at in real-time, so aiming is a br eeze. A couple of points to bear in mind: • Remember that the viewing angle will change if you change resolution - 720p has a signicantly wider viewing angle than 1080p .
23 Bar Mount The bar mount can be used to a ttach the camera to an y bar or pole thin enough to t into the mounting clasp . This is intended f or mounting the camera to the handlebars of a bicycle or motorbike, but can be used to attach the camera t o anything with the right shape (that is , round).
24 Shooting Y our T roubles Q: It won ’t turn on! A: T r y turning it on and o again. Has the camera been lef t on/recor ding for a while f or a while? Is the Atom HD charged? If not, check out “ Y ou Got the Po wer: Charging the Battery ” on page 11.
