TASCAM FW-1082 Owner’s Manual 7 1 – Introduction Overview Thank you for choosin g the T ASCAM FW -1082. W e hav e designed the FW -1082 to be an all-in-one solu- tion for your comput er-bas ed digital audio worksta- tion system.
1 – Introduction 8 TASCAM FW-1082 Owner’s Manual NO TE We strongly suggest that al though a “daisy-chain” con- nection is p r ovided , that the FW -1082 is the only unit connected to the FireWi re port. Always perform all FireWire connections and disconnec- tions with the power to both the FW-1082 and the com- puter turned off.

10 TASCAM FW-1082 Owner’s Manual 2 – Parts of the FW-1082 Front Panel The FW -1082 front panel may be con ven iently grouped into logical areas as shown in Fig ure 2.1. Note that the functions of some of these controls may change as the control mode changes.

REC indicators In COMPUTER mode, depending on the D A W application, these indicators light to indicate the track record status (armed or recording).

2 – Parts of the FW-1082 14 TASCAM FW-1 082 Owner’ s Manual Line inputs and inserts LINE IN jacks Balanced line le vel (+4 dBu) ¼" TRS (tip = hot, ring = cold, slee ve = ground) analog inputs. Inputs 1 through 4 are wired in parallel with their associated mic inputs.

16 TASCAM FW-1082 Owner’s Manual 3 – Functional Overview Contr ol Surface Modes The FW -1082 control surface is extremely versatile, and can be used to co ntrol a computer application, to control an audio input mo nitor mix, and to send MIDI messages to external de vices via its MIDI out- puts or to soft sy nthesizers, etc.
3 – Functional Overview TASCAM FW-1082 Own er’s Manual 17 connected to this jack, acti vating it wi ll always send a command to the host computer . Note that in MIDI CT RL mode these controls also send programmable MIDI messages to the FW -1082’ s physical and virtual MIDI outputs.
18 TASCAM FW-1082 Owner’s Manual 4 – Control Surface Modes and Operation As mentioned in “Functio nal Overvie w ” on page 16, the FW -1082’ s control surface functions in three dif- ferent control modes: computer control mode, MIDI controller mode or mo n itor mix mode.

T o display the pro- grammed message for a fa der, simpl y touch the fader and the Control Panel sho w s something like Figure 4.

T o open the Control P anel, press the CONTROL P ANEL shortcut k ey on the FW - 1082’ s control surface.
