TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Manua l 5 1 – Introduction The X-9 is a sophisticated DJ mixer which allo ws the connection of many devices, and allo w s you to mix in a creati ve way , adding ef fects, taking samples, et c.
6 TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Manual 2 – Getting acquainted with the X-9 Road map to fr ont panel functions These different sections of the X-9 are described more fully in other parts of the manual, b ut this sec- tion gi ves you a quick orientatio n to help you f ind your way around the mixer .
2 Getting acquainted with the X-9 TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Manual 7 Sampler section The sampler section pro vides the controls for two b uilt-in samplers. These are capable of accepting the input from a v ariety of sources (program, microphone or master mix), and recording eight seconds of sound (for each sampler).

If they look lik e either of the connectors shown here, they are XLR connectors and are probably balanc ed. Check the rear panel of th e amplifier , or the ampli- fier’ s manual, to make sure.

3 Connections TASCAM X-9 Owner’ s Manual 13 Exter nal effects The X-9 can send signals to and accept return signals from an external ef fects unit. Such a unit can be connected using the SEND (to the ef fects unit) and R ETURN (from the ef fects unit) jacks.

Y ou can set these to be any of the follo wing using the ASSIGN A and ASSIGN B controls below and to the right and left of the program f aders: Programs 1 through 4, a sam- pler ( SAMP 1 for A, and SAMP 2 for B) or THR U .

Y ou should read thro ugh the menu section (“Menu reference” on page 17) to f ind out exactly what is possible—the X-9 may possibly do more than you first thou ght, thanks to the menu system.

Their behavior can be changed so that their “curve” can f it your way of working, so that the y can be pulled or pushed to increase the le vel, and t hey can also start and stop other devices connected to the X-9.

7 Effects 24 TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Manual Some music may ha ve rather complex rh ythms, and it may be unable to determ ine the beat automatically . If the X-9 cannot determine the timing of the music automatica lly , you can use the TA P key to set the timing.
7 Effects TASCAM X-9 Owner’ s Manual 25 Recalling stored ef fect settings There are two procedures, depending on whether the EFFECT k ey is lit or not. If the EFFECT key is lit… 1 Press and hold the FUNCTION key for about two seconds. The display shows MEMO (MEMO).
26 TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Ma nual 8 – Samplers The two samplers can be used to record and play back samples of up to 8 seconds (each) in length. The sample data is lost wh en the po wer to the X-9 is turned off. Recor ding a sample 1 Select the source fr om which you will r ecord the sampler .

28 TASCAM X-9 Owner’s Ma nual 9 – EQ Each program has three bands of s weepable EQ with adjustable Q av ailable for changing the way that the signal sounds. Up to 100 settings can be stored, and recalled for later use. Even if th e settings were stored for one program, they can be recalled and used again with another pro- gram.
