This Operator ’s Manual describes th e following: • How to use the Multifunctional Digital Colour Systems. • How to inspect and carry out maintenance on the Multifunctional Digital Colour Systems.
10 Features of the e-STUDIO281c/351c/451c The e-STUDIO281c/351c/451c is a Mu lt ifunctional Digital Colour System that combines black-and-white and colour copy modes and is capable of using each function via networks. The e-STUDIO281c/351c/ 451c also has various optional paper handling de vices to meet the needs of your office.
11 General Precautions When inst alling or moving Wa r n i n g • This Multifunctional Digital Colour Systems requir es 220 to 240 V AC, 8 A 50/60 Hz electric power . Do not use a power supply with a voltage other than that specified. Avoid multiple connections in the sa me outlet.
12 General Precautions (Cont.) Caution • Avoid placing the Multifunctional Digital Colour S ystems in a place unsuitable for its weight and also make sure the surface is level. Remember that if th e Multifunctional Digital Colour Systems falls over , serious injuries could result.
13 Other point s • Make sure that there is enough space around the sys tem to facilitate changing of parts, maintenance and clearing paper jam. If there is insufficient space, some operations, such as bypass f eeding, will become dif ficult and the Multifunctional Digital Colour Systems could even break down.
14 General Precautions (Cont.) When using the Multifunction al Digit al Colour Systems Wa r n i n g • Do not take off the cover of the equipment; othe r wise you could be injured or get an electric shock. • Do not remove or connect the plug with wet hands, as this could give you an electric shock.

Y ou could cause a fire or get an electric shock. Always contact your Service representative for mainten ance or repair of the internal pa rts of the Multi- functional Digital Colour Systems.

25 1 Exp ansion Memo ry (GC-1 181, GC-1230) GC-1 181 is a page memory for storing data temporar ily when scanning or printing. GC-1230 is a main memory used for the equip ment programs or operations. Both of them are necessary for th e memory expansion.

33 1 Setting letters The following menu appears when any letter entry is r equired for the operations of scanning, e-Filing, tem- plate and In ternet F AX. Use the buttons on the touch panel for letter entry and us e the digital keys on the control panel for number entry .

T urning Power On / Shut down T urning power on Open the switch cover , and then turn the power switch on. • The equipment starts warming-up. “W ai t W arming Up” appears during warming-up. • While the equipment is warming up, you can use the auto job start function.
35 1 When dep a rtment or user management is used When the use of the equipment is managed under department mana gement or user management func- tion, each user needs to enter the department code or user information.

39 1 T urning power off (Shut down) When turning OFF the powe r of the equipment, be sure to shut it down following the procedure below . Make sure to check the following three points before shutdown. • No jobs should be left in the print job list. ( P .

41 1 2 Press the [SHUTDOWN] button on the touch p anel. • T o cancel the shutdown operation, press the [CANCEL] button. 3 “Shut down in progress” appears on the menu. After a while, the equipment is shut down and the power is turned OFF . • The power switch automatically returns to the OFF position.
42 1.BEFORE USING EQUIPMENT 1 3. Energy Saving Mode This equipment supports two energy saving modes; the Automatic Energy Save mode and the Sleep Mode. Automatic Energy Save The equipment enters the Auto matic Energy Save mode automatically after a specified period of time *1 since its last use.
43 1 4. Setting Copy Paper About the “width” and the “length” of the origin al and the copy paper Originals and copy paper whose size is A4/B5 can be set in both portrait and landscape directions.
44 1.BEFORE USING EQUIPMENT 4.Setting C opy Paper (C ont.) 1 Accept able copy p aper *1 Automatic duplex copying is not available. *2 Use Thick 3 mode for sticker labels. • Multiple paper sizes cannot be set in one drawer . • “Maximum sheet capacity” refers to the maximum number of sheets when T oshiba-recommended paper is set.
45 1 Recommended p aper T o make copies with a fine colour image , the following types of paper are recommended. If you wish to use copy paper other than the re commended types, consult your service technician. *1 Only T oshiba-recommend ed OHP film should be used .
46 1.BEFORE USING EQUIPMENT 4.Setting C opy Paper (C ont.) 1 Setting copy p aper (size change) When you set or add copy paper in the drawer , follow the procedure belo w . Placing p aper in the drawer 1 T urn the power on. 2 Pull out the drawer carefully until it comes to a stop.
47 1 5 While pushing the green lever of the side guide in the directi on of the arrow , set the side guide to th e desired p aper size. • Adjust the side guides with both hands. 6 Push the arrow p art (l ef t side) to lock the side guide. 7 Place p ap er in the drawer(s).

In this case, change the sett i ng of the paper size according to the following pro- cedure.
51 1 Placing p aper in the Large Ca pacity Feeder (optional) 3 Push the drawer of the Large Cap aci ty Feeder straight into the equip- ment until it comes to a stop. • Close the drawer completely . Th e elevator tray automatically moves up to the paper feeding position.
52 1.BEFORE USING EQUIPMENT 4.Setting C opy Paper (C ont.) 1 Drawer for special uses When you set paper for special uses other than normal copying (e.g. sheets for cover copying) in the drawer , you nee d to set this drawer for the spe cial use in advance.
53 1 3 Press the [USER] button on the touch p anel to enter the user setting menu, then press th e [DRA WER] button. 4 Press the desired drawer and pape r type button on the touch panel. E. g.: When “Cover she et” is set in the 1st drawer . Press the [RETURN] button twice or the [COPY] button on the control panel to return to the basic menu.

Setting Originals Accept able originals Acceptable originals are as follows. *1 Do not place any heavy objects (4 kg or over) on the glass. *2 Some originals cannot be used depending on th eir paper quality . *3 Be sure to place A5-size originals in the landscape directi on.
57 2 Maximum number of sheets for scanning A maximum of 1000 A4 sheets, or up until the memory becomes full can be accepted per 1 copy job. When the number of scanned sheets has exceeded the above limit, a message “The number of originals exceeds the limits.

61 2 Continuous feed mode When the number of originals is too large to be se t at one time, you can previously di vide the originals into sev- eral sets to copy them continuously . T o do so, place the first set of the originals and press the [CONTINUE] but- ton on the touch panel while the data of this set are being scanned.

63 2 2. Making Copies Initial (Default) settings When the power is turned on, when the energ y sa ving mode is cleared, and when the [FUNCTION CLEAR] button on the control panel is pressed, variou s setting items are automat ically se t. These items are called the initial (default) settings.

67 2 Stopping the copying operation Press the [STOP] button on the control pa nel to stop scanning or continuous copying. 2 When the following menu is disp layed, press the [MEMOR Y CLEAR] button on the touch p anel. • During scanning: The data scanned up to then are deleted.

71 2 3. Byp ass Copying Byp ass copying When you want to make copies on OHP film, sticker labels, or non-standard size paper , place the sheets of paper on the bypass tray . Bypass copying is also recommended for copying on standard size paper which is not in any of the drawe rs.

80 2.HOW TO MAKE COPIES 2 4. Proof Copy This function all ows you to check that the copy density , zoom and margin width, etc. are properly set by making only one set of copies. Y ou can preven t miscopying by usin g this func tion before committing yourself to mass-copying.
81 2 6 Change the settings as required. • The setting of the number of copy sets, time stamp, st apling (wh en the optional Fi nisher has been installed) and sort can be changed. • If you want to change the setting of the copy d ensity , original mode, zoom or simplex/duplex, press the [MEM- ORY CLEAR] button to clear the proof copy .

Paper Selection Automatic Paper Selection (APS) When you place standard size originals on the orig inal glas s or the Reversing Automatic Document Feeder (optional ), the size of the originals is auto ma tically detected, which he lps the equipment select pape r that is t he same size as the orig inals.

87 3 Copying mixed-size originals in one go (mixed original size) Y ou can copy a set of ori ginals w hose sizes are individually different, using the Reversing Automatic Do c- ument Feeder (optio nal), by pressing the [MIXED ORIGINAL SIZE] button. • This mixed original si ze setting is ava ilable only in the following combina tions.

89 3 2. Switching Colour Mode This function allows yo u to switch colour modes. There are three types of colour modes as follows: 1 Press the [FULL COLOUR], [BLACK] or [AUTO COLOUR] button.
