9 Introduction Identification of Controls (continued) The instructions in this manual describe the functions on the remote control. See the page in f or details. Remote control * MENU button Use the MENU button to display the menu included on many D VDs.
10 Introduction Open the cover . Insert batteries (R03/AAA size). Make sure to match the + and – on the batteries to the marks inside the battery compar tment. Caution Never throw batteries into a fire. Notes • Be sure to use R03/AAA size batteries.
11 Connections Connections Connecting to a TV (Using the phono type jacks) Notes • Refer to the owner’ s manual of the connected TV as well. • When you connect the D VD pla yer to your TV , be sure to tur n off the power and unplug both units from the wall outlet before making any connections.
12 Connections About HDMI HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) supports both video and audio on a single digital connection for use with D VD pla yers, DTV , set-top box es, and other A V de vices.
13 Connections Connections Notes • DO NOT connect the COAXIAL DIGIT AL AUDIO OUT jac k of the DVD pla yer to the A C-3 RF input of a Dolby Digital Receiver . This input on your A/V Receiver is reserved f or Laserdisc use only and is incompatib le with the COAXIAL DIGIT AL AUDIO OUT jac k of the D VD player .
14 Connections Dolby Surround Pr o Logic Y ou can enjoy the dynamic realistic sound of Dolby Surround Pro Logic b y connecting an amplifier and speaker system (right and left front speakers, a center speak er, and one or two rear speakers).
15 Connections Connections 2 channel digital stereo Y ou can enjoy the dynamic sound of 2 channel digital stereo by connecting an amplifier equipped with a digital audio input and speaker system (right and left front speakers). 75 Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω coaxial cable (not supplied) • Make the f ollowing setting.
16 Basic playback T o turn the power off Press ON/ST ANDBY on the front panel or POWER button on the remote control to turn the unit off. Notes • Do not move the D VD player during playbac k. Doing so ma y damage the disc. • Use the OPEN/CLOSE button to open and close the disc tra y .
17 Basic pla yback Playing in fast reverse or fast forward directions Press REV or FWD during playbac k. REV: Fast re verse playbac k FWD : Fast f orward playback Each time you press the REV or FWD button, the pla yback speed changes. T o resume normal playbac k Press PLA Y.
18 Basic playback Locating a specific chapter or track Press SKIP or repeatedly to access the chapter or track number y ou want. Playback starts from the selected chapter or track. T o locate succeeding chapters or tracks. Playback starts from the beginning of the current chapter or track.

20 Advanced playback Repeating a Specific Segment Y ou can specify a desired segment and repeat it. T o resume normal playbac k Press A-B RPT until RepAB Off is displayed . Notes • Some discs may not permit A-B repeat operation. • Y ou cannot set the A-B repeat function for a segment that includes multiple camera angles.
21 Advanced pla yback Playing in a Favourite Order Y ou can combine your fa vourite titles, chapters, or trac ks and pla y them in the order you determine. Y ou can program up to 12 selections into the memory . (Memory playback) Insert a disc and press MEMORY during stop.
22 Advanced playback Zooming a Picture Y ou can magnify areas within a picture. Press ZOOM during normal, slow or still playbac k. The centre part of the image will be zoomed in. Each time you press the ZOOM button, the magnification level changes as follows: Press the ZOOM button to select the magnification level.
23 Advanced pla yback Selecting the Picture Enhancement (E.P .M.*) Y ou can easily select a preferred picture enhancement. *E.P .M.: Enhanced Picture Mode 2 T o exit the picture enhancement selection Press E.P .M. again. Note Actual effect to picture ma y var y depending on the TV .
24 Advanced pla yback Selecting sound channels of VIDEO CDs Press A UDIO repeatedly during playback to hear a diff erent audio channel (Stereo, Left, Right or Mix). Selecting the Camera Angle If the scene was recorded from multiple angles, you can easily change the camera angle of the scene you are watching.
25 Advanced pla yback Viewing the operational status 1. Press DISPLA Y. The following display appears. : T o star t pla yback. : T o pause pla ybac k. : T o stop playback.
26 Advanced pla yback Playing MP3 Files Y ou can play MP3 files that hav e been recorded on a CD-R or CD-R W on the D VD play er . Preparations • Make sure that a disc you want to play is compatible with this D VD player . Place a CD that contains MP3 files on the disc tray .
27 Advanced pla yback T o quit the JPEG pla yback, press ST OP . • Pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray can also quit the playback. T o pause playbac k Press P A USE/STEP during playback T o resume normal playbac k, press PLA Y . T o change the image T o view the succeeding image, press SKIP .
28 Advanced playback Playing DivX ® /MPEG-4 Files Y ou can play DivX ® and MPEG-4 files that hav e been recorded on a CD-R or CD-R W on the D VD pla yer . Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray , after completion of reading, a list of folders in the disc will appear .
29 Advanced pla yback Playing USB Device Y ou can connect the USB flash dr ives (not included) to the USB jack on the front of D VD player . Y ou can play the files in MP3, DivX ® or JPEG format stored on a USB flash drive by connecting it to this pla y er.
30 Function setup Setting procedure Press / to select the setting you want to change, then press ENTER. Change the selection by / buttons, by referring to the corresponding pages, then press ENTER. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to change other settings. T o select another option, press b utton to go back to step 2.
31 Function setup Notes • Some D VDs may be set to display subtitles in a diff erent language other than you selected. A prior subtitle language may be programmed on the disc. • Some D VDs allow you to change subtitle selections only via the disc menu.

34 Function setup Customizing the Function Settings (continued) Setting details Night Mode Night mode is equivalent to Dynamic Range Compress. When it is On, it reduces the variations between loud and soft sounds in audio output. Y ou can still hear softer sounds and dialog even in very low volume.

38 Others Before Calling Service Personnel Check the following guide f or the possible cause of a problem before contacting service. Correction • Connect the power plug securely into the wall outlet. • Press the PLA Y button. • Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV so the picture from the D VD player appears on the TV screen.
