Installing the AA batteries 1) Press down on th e battery cover release and sli de the cover down un til it comes off. 2) Install the batteri es supplied with your phon e, observin g correct + - polarity . • Use only “ AA ” rechar geable Ni-MH batteries.

[ 22 ] System Reset Deregister the Handset 1) Enter the “ System Reset ” men u, then the “ Deregister HS ” submen u (see “ Enterin g the Men u ” on page 15). 2) Press / ▲ or ▼ to select the handset ID to be der egistered from th e list, then press th e OK so ft key .
[ 23 ] BASICS On the han dset, you may also use the speak erphone while talkin g to an outside call. Usin g the handset speak erphone is called “ han ds-free conversation ” . This feature allows you to easily communi cate while performing oth er tasks, such as cookin g.
[ 24 ] PLACING A CALL ON HOLD 1) During a call, press (or on the base). 2) T o talk to the caller , press or on a handset (or (talk) on the base). Th e phone will return back to th e call. Y ou can hold a call for 5 min utes, when 5 min utes has passed, th e call is disconnected and the ph one return s to the stan dby mode .
[ 25 ] Redialing from the Base 1) Pr ess (talk). 2) Pr ess on the base . The last number dialed fr om the base is redi aled. 3) T o hang up, press (talk). Deleting a Redial Record 1) In the standby m ode , recall the d esired n umber by following steps 1-3 in “ Redialin g from Standby M ode ” .
[ 26 ] ADJUSTING THE EARPIECE AND HANDSET SPEAKER VOLUME Y ou can select differen t volume levels for th e handset earpiece an d the handset speak er (4 levels: Low to Max). The volum e can only be adjusted during a call. Pr ess / ▲ or ▼ to select th e volume settings .
[ 27 ] TRA VELING OUT -OF-RANGE During a call, as you begin to m ove your handset too far fr om your base unit, noise may in crease . If you pass the ran ge limits of the base unit, you will h ear a beep and “ Out of Range ” appears, then th e handset return s to the stan dby mode .
[ 28 ] NEW MESSAGE LED The new message LED on the han dset is design ed to work with your answering system. The LED flash es when you have new m essages in your answerin g system. The LED stops flashin g when all new m essages are played back (see “ U sing your Answerin g System ” on page 49).
[ 29 ] PHONEBOOK Phon ebook allows you to dial a number usin g just a few key presses . Y our phon e stores nam es/numbers in the ph onebook memory locati on, and you can search n ames in alphabetical or der . Y ou have a total of 100 location s that can be used for th e phonebook (in cluding th e Speed dials) and Caller ID messag es.
[ 30 ] 3) Press the ST ORE soft key , “ Store/Edit Name ” appears. 4) Enter the n ame (up to 16 characters) by usin g the number k eypad (see the “ Steps for En tering Nam es and Special Char acters ” on page 31). If a nam e is not requir ed, go to step 5.
[ 31 ] STEPS FOR ENTERING NAMES AND SPECIAL CHARACTERS Refer to the letters on th e number keys to select th e desired char acters. With each press o f a number key ( - ), the displayed character appears in the f ollowing ord er: Upper case letters first, lower case letters next an d finally the n umber correspon ding to the k ey .
[ 32 ] If you mak e a mistake while entering a name Use or to move the cursor to th e incorrect char acter . Press th e DELETE soft key to er ase the wron g character , then enter th e correct character . T o delete all characters , press and hold th e DELETE soft key .

[ 34 ] MAKING CALLS USING THE PHONEBOOK From Standb y Mode 1) When the ph one is in the stan dby mode , view the phon ebook location to dial (see “ Vi ewing the Phon ebook ” on page 33). 2) Press or . The displayed n umber is dialed. 3) T o hang up press .

[ 36 ] CHAIN DIALING The m emory location s in the handset ar e not limited to phone n umbers. Y ou can also store a gr oup of numbers (up to 20 di gits), that you need to enter on ce your call connects . This is referred to as Chain Di aling. An ex ample of this is a bank account n umber .
[ 37 ] CALLER ID Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID service to use this feature . When th e telephone rin gs, the Caller ID featur e allows you to view the caller ’ s name and phon e number in the display bef ore you answer th e phone . Additi onally , you can dial the displayed number an d store the inf ormation f or memory dialin g.
[ 38 ] VIEWING THE CALLER ID LIST The Caller ID list stor es informati on for incomin g calls – even unanswer ed calls. Y ou can store 100 o f the Caller ID messag es and Phon ebook locations (inclu ding Speed Dials) in total. Y ou can view the Caller ID list d uring a call or when th e phone is in th e standby m ode .
[ 39 ] Deleting a Caller ID message 1) When the ph one is in the stan dby mode , view the Caller ID inform ation to be deleted (see “ Vi ewing the Caller ID List ” on page 38). 2) Press the DELETE so ft key . “ Delete Caller ID ” appears. 3) Press / ▲ or ▼ to choose “ Yes ” .

[ 41 ] THE INTEGRA TED ANSWERING DEVICE The ph one has a built-in answerin g system that answers and r ecords incoming calls . Y ou can also use your answerin g system to record a conversati on, leave a voice mem o messag e, or to ann ounce a special outg oing message to callers wh en you ’ re away from your phon e.
[ 42 ] • When th e answering system is full, “” appears on the base . Y ou should delete some m essages so that the system can recor d new messages . TURNING THE ANSWERING SYSTEM ON/OFF 1) T o turn the answerin g system On, press in the standby m ode .
[ 43 ] Choosing between the tw o outgoing messages When th e phone is in th e standby mod e, press . Pr ess again when the outg oing messag e is played. Each time is pressed , the outgoin g message is switched between th e pre-recor ded and th e personal outgoing m essage .

[ 45 ] Setting the Time Follow these steps to set th e clock on the answerin g system to the correct tim e. 1) Press . 2) Press /SELECT or /SELECT until the correct d ay is announced an d the correspon ding number (fr om “” Sund ay to “” Saturd ay) appears.
[ 46 ] Setting the ring time The rin g time setting allows you to set th e number of rin gs the caller hears befor e your answerin g system plays the outgoin g message .
[ 47 ] Announce only feature The Ann ounce only feature plays a pr e-record ed outgoing messag e “ Hello, no on e is available to take your call. Please call again. ” , an d it will not allow the caller to leave a m essage . T o set “ Announce only ” , f ollow the steps on page 46.
[ 48 ] Setting the call screen Y ou can screen calls wh en the Call Screen fun ction is set to On. 1) Press six times. The curr ent Call Screen settin g (On or Off) appears on the base . 2) Press /SELECT or /SELECT to choose “” or “” . 3) Press .
[ 49 ] USING YOUR ANSWERING SYSTEM The m essage counter displays th e number of m essages stored in mem ory . If the display flashes , then ther e are new m essages waiting for you. Th e answering system is d esigned to play your new m essages first. After you play all your new m essages, you can th en play your old messag es.
[ 50 ] Skipping a message 1) Press to review your m essages. Th e number of stor ed messages is ann ounced . 2) Press /SELECT at an ytime to skip to the n ext messag e. Each time /SELECT is pressed , the system scans f orward one m essage . If you have several m essages, pr ess /SELECT r epeatedly to find the m essage you want to play .
[ 51 ] • The voi ce memo messag es are recor ded as an incoming m essages. • When th e answering system is full, “” appears on the display an d recording is termin ated. • If an outsid e call is received during th e operation, th e operation is canceled .
[ 52 ] Y ou can operate your an swering system from a r emote location usin g any touch-tone telephon e or the handset. Remote access away fr om home Y ou can check, play , or delete messag es, even record a n ew greeting m essage when you are away fr om home .

[ 55 ] EXP ANDING YOUR PHONE CONNECTING THE CHARGER 1) Connect the A C adapter into th e charging cradle an d to a AC wall outlet. 2) Set the charg er on a desk or tabletop, and place the han dset in the charg er with the keypad f acing forwar d (see “ Installing the AA batteries ” on pag e iii to install the batteri es.
[ 56 ] REGISTER THE HANDSET If you pur chase an extra handset, y ou need to register the handset to the main base befor e use. Only one handset can be r egistered at a time . The han dset ID for the suppli ed handset(s) was assign ed at the factory , which has #1 (#1 and #2 f or DSS2465) in the display .
[ 57 ] T o use this feature , you must en ter the two handsets in to the DirectLink mod e first. T o enter the DirectLink mode e e See page 16 DirectLink call 1) When the ph one is in the Dir ectLink standby mode , press th e DirectLink soft k ey (example o f DirectLink from han dset #1).
[ 58 ] 4-W A Y CONFERENCING Fourth person, at either th e handset or the base , may be ad ded to the conferen ce call. For ex ample, to ad d a fourth party to an ong oing conference call at th e base or another handset, pr ess on the fourth party ’ s han dset (or (talk) on the base).
[ 59 ] Intercom From handset to handset or to the base 1) Press in the standby m ode . 2) Select the base or the han dset you want to talk with from th e selection list within 30 seconds . T o select the handset (or th e base), press / ▲ or ▼ , then press th e OK soft key .
[ 60 ] Call Tr ansfer Featur e From handset to handset or to the base 1) During a call, press on the han dset. 2) Select a handset or the base to tr ansfer the call to within 10 seconds (r efer to step 2 under “ Fr om handset to handset or to th e base ” in the inter com section).
[ 61 ] ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION The di gital security code is an id entificati on code used to connect the han dset and the base unit. Norm ally , setting th e code is not n ecessary . In the rar e situation that you suspect anoth er cordless telephon e is using the sam e security code, you can chan ge the code .
[ 62 ] NOTE ON POWER SOURCES Battery replacement and handling When th e operating tim e becomes short, even after a battery is r echarged, please r eplace the battery .
