INST ALLIN G 4 Befor e choosing a location for y our new phone, read the INSTALLATION CONSIDER ATIONS included in the PRECAUTIONS AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS brochure. Here ar e some important guidelines you should consider: l The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous pow er outlet.
5 1 . Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the top of the base as shown. 2. Plug the A C adapter cord into the 1 0V DC input jack on the back of the base. 3. W rap the A C adapter cord around the strain relief notch. 4. Plug the A C adapter into a standard 1 20V A C wall outlet.
DO NOT use an outlet controlled by a wall switch. t Standar d wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on any standar d telephone wall plate. 1 . Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the bottom of the base as shown. 2. Plug the A C adapter into the base.
6. Align the mounting slots on the base with the mounting posts on the wall. Push in and do wn until the phone is firmly seated. 7 . On the base, pull the handset retainer out of the slot. Rotate clockwise 1 80°. 8. Flip the retainer from fr ont to back.
1 . Insert two mounting screws (with the appropriate anchoring device) into the w all 3- 1 5/1 6 inches apart. Allow about 3/1 6 of an inch between the w all and screw heads f or mounting the phone. 2. Snap the desktop/wall mount adapter into the bottom of the base as shown.
9 6. Align the mounting slots on the base with the mounting screws on the wall. Push in and do wn until the phone is firmly seated. 7 . On the base, pull the handset retainer out of the slot. Rotate clockwise 1 80°. 8. Flip the retainer from fr ont to back.
1 . Press the battery cover r elease. Slide cov er off. 2. Install the nick el-cadmium batter y with the label down. 3. Slide the battery cover f or war d until it snaps into place. INST ALLING THE HANDSET BA TTERY P AC K 10 Use only Uniden Battery (model BT-990) supplied with your phone.
11 t Initial battery charging Befor e connecting your phone f or the first time, charge the recharg eable batter y pack for 1 5-20 hours without interruption.
Most phone systems use tone dialing. Check with your local phone company if y ou’re not sure whether y our system is tone or pulse. 12 t Low battery indicator When the battery pack is ver y low and needs to be charged, the phone is pr ogrammed to eliminate some functions to save po wer .
13 t Handset ringer volume Remo ve the handset fr om the base. Press the vo l s or t k ey on the handset to set the handset ringer v olume. There ar e two ring er v olume settings; high and low . T o select the high v olume setting, press v ol s . The f ollowing screen displays: T o select the low v olume setting, press vo l t .
t T o attach the beltclip 1 . Remo ve the slot co ver . 2. Insert the beltclip into the empty slot. Press do wn until it clicks. t T o remove the beltclip 1 . Pull back on the release tab. Lift the beltclip up. 2. Replace the slot co ver . Y ou can store either the beltclip, or the slot cov er , in the bottom of the base.
Y our phone may be used with an optional headset, the Uniden HS9 1 0. T o use this featur e, simply plug the headset plug into the headset jack. Y our phone is ready for hands-free conv ersation. T o prev ent other parties from making unauthorized calls on your phone line, a digital code was added to the EXS 9660.

17 When you hav e connected pow er and a telephone line to your EXS 9660, the phone is in “ Standby mode , ” ready to r eceive and mak e calls. F or clarity , the instructions in this Owner’s Manual designates line 1 unless the procedure r equires using line 2.
18 1 . The handset rings and the follo wing screen appears: 2. Press line 1 to answer y our call. 3. When you finish the call press line 1 on the handset, or return the handset to the base. 1 . Press line 1. 2. Dial the number on the k eypad, or , use the memory feature.
t On-Hook Dialing 1 . Pick up the handset. 2. Dial the number on the k eypad, or use one of the memor y features. (See USING MEMOR Y DIALING, pag e 34).
The redial k ey redials the last number dialed. The redialed number can be up to 32 digits long. T o redial from the handset: Press line 1 , then press redial . Or, press redial , then press line 1 . If any key is pressed bef ore redialing, the last number will not redial.
21 Y ou can mute your conversation fr om the base. This prevents the party you ar e speaking to from hearing what y ou, or someone else in the room, is saying. F or example, to use this priv acy feature while using line 1 . 1 . Press mute . The line 1 LED flashes red.
22 The handset and the base can be used on separate telephone lines at the same time. F or example, if the handset is on a call with line 1 , you can mak e, or receive calls, at the base on line 2 . The line 1 LED on the base blinks green to indicate line 1 is In Use at the handset.
23 This featur e lets you add a third party to your conv ersation from either the handset or the base. F or example, to add a party to the current call on line 1 at the base: 1 . Press hold to place the caller on hold. The line 1 LED turns from green to red.
24 A fourth person, at either the handset or the base, may be added to a confer ence call. F or example, to add a fourth party at the handset to an ongoing confer ence call at the base: 1 . Press hold . The line 1 and line 2 LEDs turn red. 2. Press page/int’com on the base to contact the handset.
25 t From the Base to the Handset 1 . Press page/int’com on the base. The handset beeps. (If no answer , press page/int’com again to disconnect.) 2. Press int’com on the handset. Speak into the mouthpiece to answer the page. T o hang up at the base: Press page/int’com.
t From Handset to Base 1 . T o transfer a call fr om the handset to the base, press hold. The line 1 LED turns red. 2. On the handset, press int’com. The status LED flashes on the base. The follo wing screen appears: 3. Answer at the base b y pressing page/int’com .
27 3. Answer at the handset b y pressing int’com . Y ou may then announce the call with the intercom. 4. On the handset, press line 1 to talk. If no one is available to take the call at the handset, return to the caller by pressing line 1 or p p a a g g e e / / i i n n t t ’ ’ c c o o m m on the base to take a message or com plete the call.
Y our EXS 9660 stores up to 30 name/numbers in the handset plus 1 0 numbers in the base. Memory locations are shared by both lines. t On the Handset 1 . Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2. Press and hold memory for two seconds. The follo wing screen appears: 3.
7 . Enter the phone number with the number k eypad (direct entry). Use the < and > keys to position the cursor . 8. When you hav e finished entering a name/number , press select . The handset beeps and and displays a confirmation screen. t On the Base 1 .
30 T o edit a number y ou have stored in the handset: 1 . Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2. Press and hold memory f o r two seconds. The display shows the Memory Store screen and an y saved name/numbers. 3. Use the s and t keys or number k eypad to select the memor y location you would lik e to edit.
Press del to r e m o v e an unwanted character . Press and hold del to clear the entire name. 7 . Press select . The follo wing screen appears: A cursor flashes indicating that the display is ready f or the number to be edited. 8. Enter the phone number with the number k eypad.
After erasing a number , you may add a new address to memory . t From the Handset 1 . Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2. Press and hold memory for two seconds. The handset shows the Memory Store scr een with saved name/ numbers displayed. 3. Use the s and t keys, or number k eypad, to select the memor y location you would lik e to delete.
9. The display then returns to the Memory Store screen. Y ou may select another number to delete (return to step 3) or you may pr ess exit to return to standby . t From the Base 1 . Press memory . The status LED blinks. 2. Press memory a second time. Enter the memory location (0-9) of the number you wish to delete.
F ollow the steps belo w to dial a number using a programmed memory location. t On-Hook Dialing from the Handset 1 . Press memory . The handset displays your pr ogrammed memory locations. 2. Use the s and t keys to select the memory location you would lik e to dial.
t Off-Hook Dialing from the Handset 1 . Press line 1 . 2. Press memory . Using the k eypad, enter the memory location number (0 1-30). The number dials. t Dialing from the Base 1 . Press line 1 . The line 1 LED lights. 2. Press memory . Using the k eypad, enter the memory location number (0-9).
36 USIN G Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID from y our phone compan y to use this feature. t Setting up Caller ID options There are thr ee Caller ID options available; they ar e AutoT alk, CIDCW , and Area Code. AutoT alk allows you to answ er the phone without pressing line 1 or line 2 .
37 4. If you w ant to set CIDCW , use the s and t k eys to mo ve the cursor to 2 CIDCW . Press the select k ey to toggle between On and Off . t Programming Y our Area Code 1 . Press and hold caller id f o r t w o seconds. The follo wing screen appears: 2.
38 t Reviewing Caller ID name/numbers T o review y our Caller ID name/numbers, follo w the steps below: 1 . Press caller id . The follo wing screen appears: 2. Use s or t to select line 1 or line 2 . Press select . 3. Press t to scan through the name/numbers.

40 t Storing a Caller ID number in a memor y location 1 . Press caller id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new calls and total number of callers. 2. Use s or t to select line 1 or line 2 . Press select . 3. Press s or t to find the name/ number that you w ould lik e to store.
t Deleting a Caller ID message T o delete a single Caller ID messag e, follo w the steps below . 1 . Press caller id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new callers and total number of calls. 2. Use s or t to select line 1 or line 2 . Press select .

Or , press exit to return to standb y . t Deleting all Caller ID name/numbers T o delete all of y our Caller ID locations, follo w the steps below: 1 . Press caller id . The Caller ID summary screen shows the number of new callers and total number of calls.
t Using CIDCW (Caller ID with Call W aiting) 1 . During a call, when you hear the Call W aiting tone, check the handset display for the name and number of incoming calls. 2. Press flash to accept the incoming call. (See FL ASH AND C ALL W AITING, page 1 9 for additional information.
