Introduction WELCOME Congratulations on your pur chase of the Uniden EXS9600 cordless telephone. This phone is designed for r eliability , long life, and outstanding performance utilizing the latest in 900 MHz Spread Spectrum technology .

Installing and Adjusting YourPhone DESK/TABLETOP INST ALL ATION 1) Plug the A C adapter cord into the 9 VDC input jack on the back of the base. 2) Wrap the A C adapter cord around the strain r elief notch. 3) Plug the AC adapter into a standard 1 20 V A C wall outlet.
7) Attach the desktop stand to the base. 8) Set the base on a desk or tabletop and place the handset into the base. Then, raise the antenna to a vertical position. W ALL INSTALL ATION ▼ Standard wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on any standard A T&T or GTE wall plate.
3) Plug the A C adapter cord into the 9 VDC input jack on the back of the base. 4 ) Put the A C adapter cord inside the molded wiring channel, then wrap it around the strain relief notch.
7) On the base unit, pull the handset retainer out of the slot and rotate it clockwise 1 80 ° . 8) Flip the retainer from front to back, then slide it back into the slot so that the lip of the retainer f aces up a n dt h eo v a li sa tt h eb o t t o mo ft h e retainer .
▼ Direct wall mounting If you don't hav e a standard wall plate, y ou can mount your phone directly to the w all. Before doing this, consider the f ollowing: • Select a location away fr om electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location.
3) Rotate the mounting adapter 1 80 ° and snap it into place at the bottom of the base. 4) Plug the A C adapter cord into the 9 VDC in put jack on the back of the base. 5 ) Put the A C adapter cord inside the molded wiring channel, then wrap it around the strain relief notch.
7) Line up the mounting slots on the base with the mounting screws on the w all, then push in and down until the phone is firmly seated. 8) On the base unit, pull the handset retainer out of the slot and r otate it clockwise 1 80 ° .
INSTALLIN G THE HANDSET BATTER Y P A CK 1) Press in on the battery cover r elease and slide the cov er down until it comes off. 2) Install the nickel-cadmium battery with the label facing do wn. 3) Slide the battery cover on until it snaps into place.
CHARGIN G THE BATTER Y P A CK ▼ Initial batter y charging Befor e plugging the phone line into your new phone f or the f irst time, fully charg e the batter y pack for 1 5-20 hours without interruption. 1) Place the handset on the base. 2) Mak e sure that status LED lights.
▼ Low batter y indicator When the batter y pack is very low and needs to be charged, the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in order to sav e pow er . If t he phone is not in use, Low Battery f lashes. If the phone is in use, Low Battery flashes and the handset beeps.
ADJUSTING THE HANDSET V OLUME CONTR OLS ▼ Handset ringer volume When the phone is in standby mode, pr essing the vol ▲ or ▼ ke y o n the handset selects the handset ringer v olume. There are tw o ringer volume settings; high and lo w . T o select the high volume setting, press vol ▲ .
INSTALLIN G THE BEL TCLIP ▼ T o attach the beltclip 1) Rem ove t he s l ot c ove r . 2) Insert the beltclip into the empty slot and press do wn until it clicks. ▼ T o remove the beltclip 1) Pull back on the release tab and pull the beltclip up. 2) Replace the slot co ver .
HEADSET INSTALLATION Y our phone may be used with an optional headset, the Uniden HS9 1 0. T o use this feature, sim ply inser t the headset plug into the headset jack.
Using YourNew Phone MAKING AND RECEIVIN G C ALLS Handset On Base Handset Off Base T o answer ac a l l 1) Pick up the handset. 2) If not in Autotalk Mode, press talk . 1) Press any k ey . 2) If not in Autotalk Mode, press talk . To m a ke ac a l l 1) Pick up the handset.
STORING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y 1) Remo ve the handset from the base. 2) Press and hold memory for tw o seconds. The follo wing screen appears. 3) Use the : and ; keys or number k eypad to choose the memor y location where y ou would lik e to enter a number .
EDITING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y F ollow these steps to edit a phone number that you hav e already programmed into memory . 1) Remo ve the handset from the base. 2) Press and hold memory for tw o seconds. The display shows the Memory Store screen and any sav ed numbers.
8) Press select. The handset beeps and displays a confirmation screen. For example, if y ou store a name and number into memor y location number one, then the handset shows Memory 1 Stored .
8) Press select . There is a confirmation tone, and the handset displays Memory 1 Deleted . 9) The display then returns to the Memory Store screen. Y ou may select another number to delete (return to step 3) or y ou may press memory to return to standb y .
USING CALLER ID Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID from y our phone company in order to use this feature . ▼ Setting up Caller ID options There are three Caller ID setup options av ailable; they are Autotalk, CIDCW , and Area Code. AutoT alk allo ws you to answ er the phone without pressing the talk button.
▼ Screening your calls Caller ID allows y ou to review caller information bef ore you answ er your phone. After the f irst ring, the display shows the date, time, call count, name, and phone number of the caller . If your Caller ID service is number only , then the name does not appear on the second line.
▼ Calling a Caller ID number 1) Press call id , and the Caller ID summar y screen appears. The screen sho ws the number of new messag es and total messag es. 2) Select the number that you w ould like to dial. Press ; to scan f or ward thr ough the messag es and : to scan backwar ds through the list.
▼ Deleting a Caller ID message T o delete a single Caller ID message, f ollow the steps belo w . 1) Press call id , and the Caller ID summar y screen appears. The screen sho ws the number of new messag es and total messag es. 2) Select the number that you w ould like to delete.
4) A confirmation tone sounds, and the follo wing screen appears. 5) Press call id to return to standb y . USING REDIAL The redial k ey redials the last number dialed. The redialed number can be up to 32 digits long. USING THE TONE FEA TURE If you ar e dialing in the pulse mode and need to enter tone digits, press tone to enter the digits.
USING THE P A GE FEATURE T o locate the handset (while its off the base), press page on the base. The handset beeps for 60 seconds and displays Paging . Press talk on the handset to end paging. Press talk again to return to standby . 26 Paging C:LaDonnaExs9600EXS9600.

PROBLEM SUGGESTION The handset doesnt ring or receiv e a page. • The Nick el-Cadmium batter y pack may be weak. Charg e the batter y on the base unit for 1 5-20 hours. • The handset may be too far aw ay from the base unit. • Place the base unit away fr om appliances or metal objects.
