A utoT alk allows you to answer a call by just r emoving th e handset fr om the base so you don ’ t have to waste tim e pushing button s. AutoStan dby allows you to hang up by simply r eturning the han dset to the base .

Do not use an y other AC ad apter . • Connect th e AC adapter to a con tinuous power supply .
GETTING ST ARTED [ 1 5 ] GETTING ST ARTED D. Choose the dialing mode Most ph one systems use ton e dialin g, which sends D TMF tones thr ough the phon e lines. However som e phone system s still use pulse dialin g such as in rural ar eas. The d efault setting is ton e dialing.
[ 16 ] GETTING ST ARTED Mounting the Base Unit on a W all Setting the handset retainer clip f or wall mounting 1) On th e base unit, pull the han dset retainer out o f the slot. Rotate it clockwise 180 degr ees. 2) Flip th e retain er from fron t to back.
GETTING ST ARTED [ 1 7 ] GETTING ST ARTED Standard w all plate mounting This phon e can be mounted on an y stand ard telephon e wall plate . 1) Sn ap the wall m ount adapter in to the notch es on the base . 2) Plug the A C adapter into th e DC IN 9V jack.
GETTING ST ARTED [ 18 ] Direct w all plate mounting If you don ’ t have a stan dard wall plate , you can mount your ph one directly to the wall. Bef ore doin g this, consi der th e following: • Avoi d electrical cables, pipes , or other items behin d the m ounting location that could cause a hazar d when insertin g screws into th e wall.
T o chang e your Caller ID option s: 1) Wh en the ph one is in the stan dby mode , press menu/mute . 2) Pr ess + or -/ to move the poin ter to “ Caller ID Setup ” , then press select/chan . 3) Pr ess + or -/ to choose “ Auto Talk ” or “ CIDCW ” , then pr ess select/chan .
GETTING ST ARTED [ 20 ] Entering Y our Area Code If you enter a 3-di git area code n umber in the “ Area Code ” option, your local ar ea code d oes not appear in Caller ID messag es. For calls r eceived from outsid e your local area cod e, you will see a full 10-di git number .
[ 21 ] GETTING ST ARTED Langu age option can be used to ch oose the lan guage o f your display . Y ou can select English, Fr ench, or Spanish. 1) Wh en the ph one is in the stan dby mode , press menu/mute . 2) Pr ess -/ to m ove the pointer to “ Language “ , then pr ess select/chan .
BASICS [ 22 ] Making and Receiving Calls Refer to page 19 “ Setting Caller ID Op tions ” to turn th e AutoT alk feature On if desir ed. Any k ey answer can be used only when A utoT alk is set to On.
[ 23 ] BASICS BASICS Redialing a Call The last thr ee phone n umbers dialed can be qui ckly redialed . Redialing from Standb y Mode 1) Pr ess r edial/pause . The phon e number that was last dialed appears on the display . 2) Pr ess r edial/pause again.
1) Wh en the ph one is in the stan dby mode , press menu/mute . 2) Pr ess -/ to m ove the pointer to “ Ringer Volume ” , then press select/chan . 3) Pr ess + or -/ to move the poin ter through the rin ger settings (Rin ger Off, Ring er Low , or Ringer Hi gh).
“ Distinctive Rin ger ” allows you to preset m emory location s with a desi gnated ring ton e. When an in coming call is received an d the Caller ID inform ation m atches the inf ormation in one o f the mem ory location s, the Distin ctive Ring that has been stored f or that particular caller will soun d.
BASICS [ 26 ] Mute Microphone • The ton e feature only applies wh en the di al mode is set to pulse . • This special n umber can be stored in a mem ory location. This is referr ed to as Chain Dialin g. (See page 36.) Y ou can temporarily turn Off th e micr ophone so that th e person you are talkin g with cannot hear you.
[ 27 ] BASICS Find Handset Flash and Call W aiting BASICS Selecting a Different Channel If you encoun ter interferen ce while using your ph one , you can manu ally change th e phone ’ s channel f or clear operation. This fun ction works only wh en the phon e is in use.
BASICS [ 28 ] Using One T ouch V oice Mail Access If you subscribe to voice m ail service , you can use your phon e to access your voice mailbo x. The messag e light on th e handset an d base of your phon e flashes when ever you have messag es waiting in your voice m ailbox.
BASICS [ 2 9 ] BASICS V oice Mail Access The voi ce mail LED on the han dset and base ar e design ed to work with your voice m ail service provi ded by your local teleph one company . The LED flash es when you have new in coming m essages in the voi ce mail servi ce.
• If you press end or don ’ t pr ess a key within 30 seconds while in the storin g operati on mode , the phon e will return to the stan dby mode . • When th e memory is full, you will hear a beep and “ Memory Full ” appears. Y ou cannot stor e names and n umbers.

PHONEBOOK [ 36 ] Chain Dialing The m emory location s in the han dset are not limited to ph one numbers . Y ou can also store a group o f numbers (up to 20 digits), that you n eed to enter on ce your call connects. This is referr ed to as Chain Dialing.
Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID service to use this feature . When th e telephone rin gs, the Caller ID featur e allows you to view th e caller ’ s name and phon e number on the display bef ore you an swer the phon e. A ddition ally , you can dial the displayed number an d store the inf ormati on for mem ory dialing.
CALLER ID [ 38 ] V iewing the Caller ID List • The n umber of calls from th e same Caller ID appears ne xt to the r eceived time . Once you have revi ewed the new messag e, th e number will be cleared and disappears .
Deleting a Caller ID message 1) While th e incomin g Caller ID informati on is displayed, press delete/tr ansfer . “ Delete Message? ” appears. 2) Pr ess + or -/ to choose “ Yes ” or “ No ” .
Calling a party from the Caller ID list From Standb y mode 1) Pr ess cid/>> . Th e summary screen appears . The screen sh ows the n umber of new m essages and th e total number o f messages . 2) U se the n umber keypad ( 2 - 9 and 0 ), + , or -/ to view the Caller ID m essage list.

EXP ANDING YOUR PHONE [ 46 ] How to Distinguish the Original Handset and the Second Handset The ori ginal handset an d the secon d handset are i denti cal in appearance . T o distinguish the ori ginal and th e second han dset, place the handset in th e base charger .
T o transfer a call (to the second handset) 1) Pr ess delete/tr ansfer during a call. Th e call will automatically be placed on hold an d the tran sfer tone soun ds. 2) Wh en the oth er handset receives th e call, the tran sfer tone stops. T o cancel th e transfer , press delete/transfer or talk/call w ait on the handset.
EXP ANDING YOUR PHONE [ 48 ] Setting up Charging • Charg e the second han dset for 15-20 h ours before usin g. • When you char ge the secon d handset, th e display shows the n ame of th e handset, HS2 . Dialing mode Dialin g mode is a universal settin g.

ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION [ 50 ] The di gital security code is an id entifi cation code used to conn ect the handset an d the base unit. Norm ally , setting the cod e is not necessary . The first time you char ge your handset, th e security code is automati cally set.
