GETTING ST ARTED [ 4 ] Read This First This cordless teleph one m ust be set up befor e use . Follow these steps: Base unit About the digital security code This cordless teleph one uses a digital security cod e to preven t unauth orized access to your base unit.

GETTING ST ARTED [ 7 ] GETTING ST ARTED B . Installing the Battery Pack Charg e the battery pack f or at least 15-20 hours bef ore plugging th e telephon e jack and start usin g your phon e . 1 Press in on th e battery cover release an d slid e the cover down un til it comes o ff.
GETTING ST ARTED [ 8 ] • Even when th e battery pack is not bein g used, it will grad ually discharg e over a long period o f time . For optimum perf ormance , be sure to r eturn the handset to th e base unit after a telephon e call.
[ 9 ] GETTING ST ARTED C. Connect the base unit 1 Connect th e AC ad apter to the DC IN 9V jack and to a stan dar d 120V AC wall outlet. 2 Set the base on a d esk or tabletop, and place the han dset on the base unit as shown. Rem ove the beltclip, if attach ed, for f ace up chargin g.

GETTING ST ARTED [ 12 ] Direct w all plate mounting If you don’t have a stan dar d wall plate , you can moun t your phon e directly to th e wall. [ 13 ] GETTING ST ARTED Ther e are thr ee Caller ID setup option s available: AutoT alk, CIDCW (Caller ID on Call W aiting), an d Area Cod e . (See page 14 f or Area Cod e setup instru ction s.) AutoT alk™ allows you to answer the ph one with out pressin g the button.
GETTING ST ARTED [ 14 ] Entering Y our Area Code If you enter a 3-di git area cod e number in th e Area Cod e option, your local area cod e does n ot appear in Caller ID messag es. Do n ot progr am this option, if your calling ar ea requir es 10-digit di aling.

BASICS [ 20 ] T raveling Out-of-Range During a call, as you begin to m ove your handset too f ar from your base unit, noise in creases . If you pass the r ang e limits of th e base unit, your call will terminate within 30 secon ds.
BASICS [ 21 ] BASICS Flash and Call W aiting If you have “Call W aiting” servi ce and a call waitin g tone sounds while you ar e on a call, press to accept the waiting call. Th ere is a sh ort pause , then you will h ear the new caller . T o return to th e origin al caller , press again.
[ 22 ] • In memory dialin g operati on, you must press a k ey within 20 seconds or th e phone will return to stan dby . If you return th e handset to th e base, the ph one will return to standby also. MEMOR Y DIALING Storing Phone Numbers and Names Mem ory Dialin g allows you to dial a n umber using just a few k ey presses .
MEMOR Y DIALING [ 23 ] MEMOR Y DIALING • The pause feature is useful for lon g distance callin g, credit card di aling, or sequences that r equire a pause between digits . • The pause key counts as one di git. Pressing mor e than once in creases the length o f pause between numbers .
[ 24 ] MEMOR Y DIALING Steps for Entering Names and Special Characters Refer to the letters on th e number k eys to select the d esired char acters. With each press o f a num eric k ey , the displayed character appears in th e followin g ord er: Upper case letters first, lower case letters ne xt and fin ally the n umber correspon ding to th e key .

The incomin g call inform ation is stor ed in the Caller ID recor d. If th e Caller ID service in clud es the caller’s n ame , the caller’s nam e appears on the display (up to 15 letters).

Using the Caller ID List Calling a party from the Caller ID list Y ou can place a call from th e Caller ID list.

A t the tou ch of a button, you can ask the caller to h old or conferen ce them in to your curren t call. The m essage coun ter displays the n umber of m essages stor ed in mem ory . If the display flashes , then th ere ar e new m essages waitin g for you.

[ 40 ] Selecting the message recor d time Y ou can set your answerin g system to recor d messag es up to one or four min utes long. One min ute option: move th e REC TIME switch to 1 .
[ 41 ] THE INTEGRA TED ANSWERING DEVICE Setting ring time switch The rin g time/toll saver switch allows you to set the n umber of rin gs the caller h ears befor e the answerin g system plays the outg oing m essage . Y ou can set the switch to an swer after two rings or after four rin gs.
