4 W elcome Thank you for purchasing a Uniden Multi-Handset phone. Note: Illustrations in this manual are used for explanation purposes. Some illustrations in this manual may differ from the actual unit.
5 T erminology used in this Manual Standby The handset and the base are not in use. If the handset is on the cradle or [ /ash ] or [ ] on the handset or [ ] on the base is not pressed, no line has been activated. No dial tone is present. CID Caller ID is available from your T elephone provider and is of fered to users on a subscription basis.

9 Using the Interface Reading the Handset Display The handset display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Icon Status Description T alk The privacy icon appears when Privacy mode is turned on.
10 Reading the Base Display The base display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Icon Status Description T alk The talk icon appears while on a call. T alk The privacy icon appears when Privacy mode is turned on.
1 1 The Standby Screen When the phone is in standby , the handset and base display shows the following items: Handset Ringer off icon (when the ringer is of f)/ day of the week and time / battery icon Handset ID and Banner Number of new Caller ID calls received (If there are no new Caller ID messages, the Handset ID appears here.
12 Using the Four-way Function Key Y our handset and the base have a four-way function key that allows you to move the cursor (or highlighted area) on the display and ac- cess the most commonly used features at the touch of a button. By moving this key to the left, you open the Phonebook.
13 Entering T ext from your Phone Y ou can use the number keypad on your handset or base to enter text by referring to the letters printed on each number key . When you press the number key in a text entry eld, the phone displays the rst letter printed on the number key .
14 Installing the Phone Choosing the Best Location When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider: The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous power outlet (one which is not connected to a switch).
15 W all Mounting the Base This phone can be mounted on any standard wall plate. Snap the wall mount adapter into the notches on the base top. Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN 9V jack. Wrap the AC adapter cord inside the molded wiring channel as shown.
16 Direct W all Mounting If you don’t have a standard wall plate, you can mount your phone directly to the wall. Before doing this, consider the following: Avoid electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that could cause a hazard when inserting screws into the wall.
17 Installing the Rechargeable Battery Use only the Uniden BT -446 rechargeable battery pack supplied with your cordless telephone. Follow the steps below to install a battery: Press in on the handset battery case cover (use the nger indention for a better grip) and slide the cover downward to remove.
18 Connecting the Base and Charging the Handset Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack. Connect the AC adapter to a continuous power supply (i.e., an outlet that is not controlled by a switch). Close the handset and place it in the base with the LCD screen facing forward.
19 Installing the Belt Clip Line up the holes on each side of the handset. T o attach the belt clip, insert into the holes on each side of the handset. Press down until it clicks. T o remove the belt clip, pull either side of the belt clip to release the tabs from the holes.
20 Changing the Dial Mode Y our phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dial- ing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing.
21 Basic Setup Selecting a Language Y our phone supports three languages: English, French and Spanish. Once you select a language, the menus on the phone will display in that language. The default language is English. Press the MENU soft key . Select the HANDSET SETUP or BASE SETUP menu, and then the HANDSET LANGUAGE or BASE LANGUAGE submenu.
22 Activating Caller ID on Call W aiting and Call Waiting Deluxe Y our phone supports Caller ID on Call Waiting (CIDCW), so you can see the name and number of someone who calls when you’re already on the line. Y our phone also supports Call W aiting Deluxe (CWDX), which gives you a choice of how you want to handle a wait- ing call.
23 Activating the Key T ouch T one Key T ouch T one is the tone your keypad makes when keys are pressed. Y ou can turn this tone on or off. Press the MENU soft key . Select the HANDSET SETUP or BASE SETUP menu, and then the KEY TOUCH TONE submenu. Move the cursor to select ON or OFF .
24 Adding Accessory Handsets Y our phone supports up to ten (10) handsets, including any handsets supplied with your phone. Accessory handsets do not need to be connected to a phone jack. Y ou can now place a fully-featured cordless handset anywhere AC power is available to connect the handset charger .
25 Registering TCX905 Accessory or Extra Handsets If you purchase an accessory handset, you need to register the handset before use. Only one handset can be reg- istered at a time. Handsets supplied with the phone are registered to the base by the factory .
26 Resetting the Handsets If you want to register a handset to a different base or replace a handset with another one, you must rst clear the existing registration data. T o clear , please follow these steps: Press the MENU soft key . Select the DEREGISTERA TION submenu.
27 Setting up the Phonebook Y our phone allows you to store up to 2 numbers per name and up to 100 names in your handset and base phone- book. Y our phone shares memory between your phonebook and CID with a total of 100 entries which are not used up by the 2 phone numbers that can be stored per 1 name entry .
28 Assign a personal ring tone for this entry (Personal Ring) (Handset only). Y ou can attach a personalized ring tone to each phonebook entry; the phone will use this ring tone when this person calls. Move the cursor to highlight one of the 20 different ring tone options.
29 Editing Phonebook Entries Press [ ] to open. Use [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key to scroll through the phonebook entries. When you come to the entry you want to edit, press the OPTIONS soft key . Move the cursor to select EDIT SELECTION submenu.
30 Erasing Phonebook Entries Y ou can erase individual phonebook entries or erase all the phonebook entries at once. When the phone is in standby , press [ ] . Use [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key or the number keypad to select de- sired phonebook entry , then press the OPTIONS soft key .
31 Copying all the phonebook entries at once: When the phone is in standby , press [ ] . Press the OPTIONS soft key . Move the cursor to select COPY ALL. Press the OK soft key . T O WHICH UNIT? will appear . Scroll through the list until the station you wish to copy listings to is highlighted.
32 Customizing Y our Phone Changing the Handset Banner Each handset will display a banner name once it is registered to the base. The default banner is Handset #1, Handset #2, etc. Y ou can change the name your phone displays by changing the banner display .
33 Selecting a Ring T one (Handset only) Y ou may choose from 10 melodies or 10 tones for your phone’s primary ring tone. Each station can use a different ring tone or melody .
34 Activating AutoT alk (Handset only) AutoT alk allows you to answer the phone simply by removing the handset from the cra- dle. Y ou do not have to press any keys to answer the call. Press the MENU soft key Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the AUTOT ALK submenu.

36 Making a call from the Phonebook When the phone is in standby , press [ ] to open the phonebook. Scroll through the list with the [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function keys until you nd the phonebook entry you want to call. (See Finding a Phonebook Entry on page 28).
37 Using Caller ID, Call W aiting and Redial Lists If you subscribe to Caller ID from your phone company , your phone will show you the caller ’s phone number and name (if available) whenever a call comes in.
38 Making a call from a Caller ID Record When the phone is in standby , press [ ] (on the right side of the four-way key) to open the Caller ID list. Use [ ] or [ ] to nd the Caller ID record you want to dial. T o add (or delete) a “1” at the beginning of the displayed phone number , press [ tone ] .
39 Using Call W aiting and Call W aiting Deluxe If you have Call W aiting service and a second call comes in when you are on the phone, a call waiting tone will sound. Press [ /ash ] on the handset or [ash/nd handset] on the base to accept the waiting call.
40 Redialing a Number Y ou can quickly redial the last 3 numbers dialed on each handset and the base. With the phone in standby , press the REDIAL soft key on the handset or base or [redial/pause] on the hand- set to open the redial list. Use [ / ] to scroll through the redial list.
41 Adjusting the Ringer , Earpiece and Speaker V olume Adjusting the Ringer V olume Y ou can choose from three ringer volume settings on the handset and base (off, low , and high). With the phone in standby , use [ / ] on the four-way function keys to ad- just the ringer volume.
42 Finding a Lost Handset T o locate a misplaced handset, press [ash/nd handset] key on the base when the phone is in standby . All regis- tered handsets will beep for 60 seconds, and P AGING appears on the handset display . T o cancel paging, press any key on the found handset or press [ash/nd handset] key on the base.
43 T ransferring a Call Y ou can transfer a call from one station to another . During a call, press [int’com/hold] . Use [ ] or [ ] to select the station you want to transfer the call to, then press the OK soft key . The call will automatically be placed on hold, and a paging tone sounds.
44 Using Special Features Do Not Disturb (All Calls) DND allows you to mute the ringer of all registered handsets and the base. With the phone in standby , press and hold [dnd] on the base. Y ou will hear a conrmation tone and the dnd LED illuminates.
45 PRIV ACY MODE ON will appear in the display for 2 seconds, but the icon will appear and remain in the dis- play until the feature is turned off. Other stations will not be able to make a call and their display will list UN- A V AILABLE. T o turn Privacy off, press the PRIV ACY soft key again.
46 Making a DirectLink Call T o call another handset with DirectLink, press the DirectLink soft key . Move the pointer to select the handset you want to call, and press the OK soft key . If the handset is out of range or not in DirectLink operation, the display shows OUT OF RANGE.
47 Answering an Intercom Page When the intercom page tone sounds, the display will show the ID of the station that is paging. Press [ /ash ] , [int’com/hold] , or the ANSWER soft key (or [int'com/hold] , [ ] or the ANSWER soft key on the base).
48 Press the OK soft key . MONITOR appears on the handset or the base, and MONITORING appears on the base or the handset, and you hear sounds in the room where the handset or base is installed. T o turn off the Room Monitor , press the END soft key or [ ] on either handset or return the handset to the cradle.
49 Installing the Optional Headset Y our phone may be used with an optional headset. T o use this feature, insert the head- set plug into the headset jack. Y our phone is ready for hands-free conversations. Headsets may be purchased by calling the Uniden Parts Department.
50 Setting Up the Answering Machine Y our phone has a built-in answering machine that answers and records incoming calls. Y ou can also use your answering machine to record a conversation or leave a voice memo.
51 Using the Answering Machine Interface Using Handset and Base Menus Y ou can set up your answering machine's primary features from the base or handset. The menu options of the base have voice prompt. When the phone is in standby , press the MENU soft key and then scroll down and select ANSW .
52 Selecting the Language Y ou can select the language (English, French, and Spanish) of your answering machine announcements. The de- fault answering machine language is English. From the base or handset: Press the MENU soft key . Select the ANSW . SETUP menu option, then the ANSW LANGUAGE submenu and press the OK soft key .
53 From the base From the handset T o Record a Per- sonal Greeting Press the MENU soft key . Select the ANSW . SETUP menu option, then the RECORD GREETING submenu and press the OK soft key . Press the ST ART soft key . The answering machine announces, "Record Greeting", begin recording after the announcement.
54 From the base From the handset T o Select a pre-recorded Greeting With the phone in standby , press the MENU soft key . Select ANSW . SETUP menu option, then the GREETINGOPTIONS submenu and press the OK soft key . The answering machine plays the current greeting.
55 Setting the Number of Rings The ring time setting allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before your answering machine plays the outgoing message.
56 Activating the Message Alert The Message Alert feature sounds a short alert tone every 15 seconds whenever you have a new message. T o turn on the message alert: From the base or handset: Press the MENU soft key . Select the ANSW . SETUP menu, and then the MESSAGE ALERT submenu.
57 Using the Answering Machine The message counter on the LCD displays the number of messages stored in memory . If the display ashes, then there are new messages waiting for you that you have not yet listened to. The answering machine plays your new messages rst.
58 From the base From the handset T urning Off With the phone in standby , press [ ] . The phone announces "Answering System is off." appears.
59 From the base From the handset Repeating a mes- sage Press [ ] or the soft key once to go to the beginning of the current message. Press [ ] or the soft key repeatedly to go back to a previous message. Press and hold to rewind through the current message.
60 Screening Calls Y our phone allows you to listen to callers leaving a message without answering the phone. Y ou can always hear call- ers from the base speaker .
61 Recording a Conversation Y ou can record a conversation between 2 seconds and 10 minutes long from the handset or the base. These record- ed conversations are treated just like regular messages. When the answering machine is full, will appear on the base LCD and recording will be terminated.
62 Note: Every state has different regulations governing the recording of conversations over the telephone. Make sure to check your local, state and federal laws before using this product to record any telephone conversation in order to determine that your use is in compliance with such laws or guidelines.

64 Remotely Operating Y our Answering Machine Y ou can access your answering machine while you are away from home to check, play , delete messages, or even record a new greeting message or to turn your answering machine on and off.

67 Battery Replacement and Handling With average use, your phone’s battery should last approximately one year . T o order replacement batteries, please contact Uniden’s Parts Department.
68 Low Battery Alert When the battery pack is very low , the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in or- der to save power . When Low Battery appears in the display and the phone is in standby , none of the keys will operate.
69 T roubleshooting Resetting the Handset Y ou may need to reset your handset in the following instances: Y ou lose a handset and purchase a new one. When you try and register to your existing base you get regis- tration failure. Y ou are unable to register any handsets to the base.
70 Resetting the Handset without the Base If your original base is not available for some reason (for example, it is lost or somehow incapacitated), you can still reset the handset and use it with another base. Press and hold [ ] and [#] for more than 5 seconds.
71 Common Issues If your phone is not performing to your expectations, please try these simple steps rst. If these steps do not solve your problem, please call our Customer Hotline. See back cover page for contact information. Symptom Suggestion The charge LED won’t illuminate when the handset is placed in the cradle.
72 Symptom Suggestion The Caller ID does not display . The call was placed through a switchboard. Call your telephone provider to verify your Caller ID service is current. There may be a problem with your Caller ID service. • • Y ou cannot register the handset at the base.
73 Symptom Suggestion Cannot access remote fea- tures from another touchtone phone. Make sure you are using the correct PIN number . Make sure that the touch-tone phone you are using can transmit the tone for at least two seconds. If it cannot, you may have to use another phone to access your phone.
74 Liquid Damage Moisture and liquid can damage your cordless phone. Follow the suggestions below if your phone gets wet. Exterior If the handset or base is exposed to moisture or liquid, but only the exterior plastic housing is af fected, wipe of f the liquid, and use as normal.
