2 THE BATTERY AND SI M CARD If your Vertu phone was purchased at a Vertu store, the battery and SIM card sho uld have been installed already. Otherwi se, fo llow the procedure below to install your SIM card and battery. The SIM card and its c ontacts are easily damaged.
3 > Insert the battery ( 07 ) top end first. Ensure that the contacts on the top end of the battery align wi th the contact points ( 08 ) inside the battery compartment. > Ensure that the battery and S I M card are seated correctly before replacing the bac k cover .
4 If your battery requires charging, a Battery low message is displayed wh en you first switch on your Vertu phone. Refer to “Charging your battery” on page 57 for more information. Contact with the antenna af fects call quality an d may cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than otherwise need ed.
5 To set th e date: You can enable your Vertu phone to automatically adjust your date and ti me settings. MENU NAVIGATION Your Vertu phone offers an extensive range o f functions that are accese d through a series of menus. The most commonly used features are assinged to the shortcuts menu to enable rapid access to the function.
6 The shortcut li st can be customised to sui t your particular requirements. DISPLAY ICONS AND INDICAT ORS The display shows the cu rrent st at us o f y ou r Ve rt u phone. ST A TUS ICONS One or more of the fo llowing icons may appear on the stand-by display below the battery c harge and signal strength indicators.
7 Active function icons Active function icons appear on the top of the display and indicate the fun ctions that are currently enabled. Message icons Message icons a ppear on the top-l eft of the disp lay and indicate that you have received a text, multimedia or voicemail mes sage.
8 Where more than one type is associated with a contact, the defa ult number is highligh ted in the list. Additional detail ic ons are used for the other information attached to a contact.
9 LAST NUMBER REDIAL IN CALL FUNCTIONS While you are in a call, several functions are available from the Options submenu: SPEAKER PHONE The speaker phone u ses the internal spe aker in your Vertu pho ne to allow you to have a hands-free phone call or allow peopl e around you to particip ate in con versati on.
10 T o set up a conference call: T o have a private conversation with one of th e participan ts: T o end the conference call and disconnect all participan ts: > Press the END key. For more information on conference calling, contact your service provid er.
11 KEYPAD LO CK You can lock the keypad on your Vertu phone to prevent the keys being operated accidentally, f or example when it is in your pocket or bag. LOCKING THE KEYP AD RECEIVING A CALL Your Vertu phone keypad lock is automati cally suspended when you receive an incoming call.
12 TEXT ENTR Y In addition to standard numeric entry, your Vertu phone supports two metho d s for entring text and number s. > B asic T ex t Input (Dictionary off) – T his method is used to enter te xt based on multipl key presses to generating a correspond ing letter .
13 Basic T ext Input Ex ample To write the word ‘Vertu ’ using b asic text in put in a text message: PREDICTIVE TEXT INPUT Predictive text re duces the number of key presses required to key in a word. As you key in characters, predictive text attempts to match the characters to a word in the built-in dic tionary.
14 Predictive T ex t Input Ex ample The example b elow descri bes how to ke y in “ Vertu” . SPECIAL CHARACTER INPUT Though most common special characte rs such as punctuation sysmbols c an be inserted by p ressing the 1 key, other special ch aracters can be inserted in your text at any time usi ng the special characters input.
15 THE SCREEN SA VER DISPLA Y > 01 Clock – s hows the current time. For this compo nent to display properly , the correct local time must be set. > 02 Signal strength gauge – shows the signal strength at your curre nt location. T he coloured fill level shows the percentage of maximum signal.
16 02 SECURITY The security features on your Vertu phone help prevent unauthorised use of your phone and SIM card. SECURITY FEATURES You can activate and change some security features yourself – these are “User codes”. A user code is a pre- defined number you have to key in at specified times, for example after switching on your Vertu phone.
17 CALL BARRING Call barring is a networ k service that allows you to restrict the incoming and outgoing calls that you make and receive. Contact your service provide r for more information about using this function.
18 To modify your fi xed dialling li st: > From the st and-by display , press Menu . > Scroll to Settings and press Select . > Scroll to Security settings and press Sel ect . > Scroll to Fixed dialling and press Select . > Scroll to Number list and press Select .
19 > Call barring password (4 digits) – This code is stored in your SI M card but can b e chang ed by the user . The defult code is supplied by your service provider . Avoid using codes similar to emergency numbers such as 112 or 9 11 to prev ent accidental di aling of the emergency number when en tering your code.
20 CHANGING THE PIN2 CODE Your PIN code is used to protect th e advanced user functions of your SIM card suc h as fixed dialling lists. T o change your PI N2 code: > From the st and-by display , press Menu . > Scroll to Settings and press Select .
21 03 MESSAGES Your Vertu phone provides extensive messaging functionality to al low you to send and receive messages of many types: > Te x t m e s s a g e s , > M ultimed ia messa ges, > E-mail messages, > Voice messages. To send and receive me ssages you will need to be subscribed to a message ne twork service.
22 WRITING AND SENDING TEXT MESSAGES The Create message opti on allows you to write and send text messages. Refer to “T ext Entry” on page 12 more information about enteri ng text using your phone keypad. To write a new messag e: > From the st and-by display , press Menu .
23 Delete to delete the mess age you are viewing. Reply to reply to the sender of the message. Y ou can choose to start your reply with Empty screen for a blank mess a ge, Original text to repeat the original messag e, or one of the many other reply response templates.
24 > If there are no distribu tion lists defined, press Add , or if there are existing distribution l ists, press Optio ns then scroll to Add list then press Select . > Use the keypad to enter a name for your new distribution li st, and press OK .
25 > If more than one message profile set is supported by your SI M card, select the set you want to change and press Select . Y ou can modify the follow ing mess ag ing opti ons: Message centre number to store the phone number of the message centre, used for sending text messages.
26 Multimedia messaging supports a wide range of standards for each of the following formats: > Picture: J PEG, G I F , animated G I F , W B M P , BMP , an d P NG > Soun d: SP -MIDI a nd A M R au di o > Video: clips in H.
27 Default slide timing to set the default time in mm:ss format f or each slide (equival ent of a page) in an MM S to displayed on the screen . Allow multimedia r eception to control when multimedia messages can be received.
28 It takes more time to send a multimedia message than to send a text message. While the mult imedia m essage is being s ent, the animated indicator is displayed and you can us e other functions on the phone . If there is an interruption while the message is being sent, the phone tries to resend it a f ew times.
29 Saved items — The store for multimedia messages that have been read and s aved or partially co mposed and save d. ERASING MUL TIPLE MU L TIMEDIA MESSAGES You can erase all multimedia messages from any o f the MMS folders at once. To delete multi ple multimedia message s at once: > From the st and-by display , press Menu .
30 Include signature to define a signature that is automatically added to the end of eac h e-mail, when you write your message. Use S MTP authorisation to specify if your e-mail service provider requires authentication for sending e-mails. S MTP user name to enter the user name used for sending outgo ing mails.
31 > Press Options , scroll to Send to send the message immediatel y , Send later to place the mail in your outbo x for future sending or Save draft msg. to store the message for later , then press Select . DOWNLOADING AND READING E-MAIL To download your e-mail messages: > From the st and-by display , press Menu .
32 Confirm the deleti on when prompted. You cannot recover deleted messages. Del eting an e-mail message from the phone does not delete it fr om the e-mail server. VOICE MESSAGES If you subscribe to voice mail, yo ur service provider will furnish you wi th a voice mailb ox number.
33 04 CALL REGISTER The call register feature allows you to view informatio n about calls tha t you h ave misse d, received and made. You can also view information about the duration and da ta transfer of your GPRS data transfer and quanti ty of messages sent and received.
34 T o reset the call duration timers: > From the st and-by display , press Menu . > Scroll to the Call register menu then press Select . > Scroll to Call duration then press Select . > Scroll to Clear timers then press Select . > Enter your security co de when prompted then press OK .
35 05 PROFILES AND SETTINGS You can use the profiles and settings menus to change your personal sho rtcuts, time and date settings, call settings, phone settings, di splay settings, tone setting s, enhancement settings , security settings, and to restore factory setti ngs.
36 Key pa d to ne s to set the volume of your keypad tone s (off=silent , 1=low, 3=high). Wa r n i n g t o n e s to set whether your V ertu phone uses an audible alert for giving you warnings, for example when the battery is low .
37 Date separator to change the separator used to display the date. Highlight your new date separator then press Select . Automatic update of date and time This is a network service. You can set your Vertu phone to update the date and time from the network when you turn the phone on.
38 Contact your service provider for more information about supported d ata connections and tariffs. When you have selected GPRS as a data bearer, the phone automatically uses EDGE instead of GPRS if this is availab le in t he netw ork. To define when a GPRS connection is e stablished: > From the st and-by display , press Menu .
39 > Scroll to Anykey answer , the current setting is shown, press Select . > Highlight On to enable anykey answer , or Off to disable it, then press Select . Automatic redial Occasionally, your network may experience heavy traffic and your ca ll may not be establ ished.

42 06 CONTACTS Your Vertu phone Contacts directory has poten tial capacity for up to 1, 000 entries. CONTACTS MEMORY Contact names and numbers can be stored in the phone memory or on the SIM card, or bot h, but only one memory can be used at a time. Your Vertu phone def aults to the phone me mory.
43 COPYING OPTIONS The following copyin g options are displayed: COPYING INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS You can also copy individual di rectory numbers between the phone memory and SIM card memory directly from the list of names in your directory. To copy individual numbers : > From the stand-by display, press a SCROLL key.
44 ACCESSING CONT ACTS There are several ways to access a contact, giving you flexibility to use your Vertu phone in the way that suits you best. DELETING CONTACTS To delete a contact: > From the stand-by display, press a SCROLL key. > If the contact name is not visible, press the first letter of the contact name.
45 A message confirms that the details have b een saved to the phone memory. To add a text item to a contact: > From the stand-by display, press a SCROLL key. > If the contact name is not visible, press the first letter of the contact name. The first name starting w ith that letter is highlighted.
46 > Scroll to the required number and pres s Options . > Scroll to Send message and press Select . > With T ext message highlighted, press Select . > Key in the message and press Options . > With Send highlighte d, press Select . > With the phone number d isplayed, press OK .

48 U SING VOICE TAG S To make a voice tag call: > Press and hold the down VOL UM E key on the right side of the phone. > Speak the voice tag clea rly into the microphone. > The contact is displayed briefly givi ng you a chance to Quit if it is incorrect.
49 > Key in the name for the new caller group and press OK . A message confirms that the caller g roup has been renamed. ADDING CONT ACTS TO AN EMPTY CALLER GROUP To open a caller group and link contac ts to it. > From the stand-by display, press Menu .
50 EDITING CONTACTS To edit contact details: > From the stand-by display, press a SCROLL key. > If the contact name is not visible, press the first letter of the contact name. The first name starting w ith that letter is highlighted. > Scroll to the desired name and press Details .
51 07 ADDITIONS GALLERY You can save images, video cl ips, graphics, ringing tones and rec ordings to f olders in the gallery, and add new folders to the ones already there. You can download images and tones usi ng MMS, mobile Internet sites, or Vertu PC Suite.
52 F OLDER F ILES To use the files i n your folders: > From the st and-by display , press Menu . > Scroll to Additions and press Select . > Gallery is highlighted, press Select . > Scroll through your folders to locate your file by pressing Options then Open as necessary .
53 V OICE RECORDER You can use the voice reco rder function to make a short (up to 3 mi nutes) voice recording. By default, recordings are saved to the Recordings fold er. You can also record your phone calls. To make a voice recording: > From the st and-by display , press Menu .
54 APPLICATIONS Your phone supports Java applica tions. You will find some Java applications a pre-installed on your phone. A lso, you c an manag e and dow nload ne w applications f rom your service provider. Running some applications may consume the battery faster.

56 08 ACCESSORIES This section shows how to use the individual accessories with your Ve rtu phone. > Headset (available separately) > Charger and battery > Vehicle Charger (availabl e separat.
57 CHARGER The charger recharges your Vertu phone battery quickly and safe ly by means of a powered A C outlet. The charger suppli ed with your Vertu phone should be appropriate for yo ur region. However, you should always check that electri cal rating of the AC outlet is approp riate for the charger before you attempt to plug it in.
58 > With the bac k of your V ertu phone facing you, position the bac k cover release key ( 01 ) very carefully into the slot of the loc king screw ( 02 ).
59 > Pivot and slide the back cover into posi tion until it clicks into place. T he cover should close tightly using only light pressure – do not force it closed! If the cover does not close easily , remove it and chec k the battery is correctly inserted.
60 Some cigarette lighter sockets are only powered when the vehicle i gnition is switch ed on. The vibrating alert is disabled whil e the charger is connected to your Vertu phone. When the battery is full y c harged, the battery charge indicator stops animating.
61 Bluetooth Enabled PC Requirements To pair your Vertu ph one and your computer via a Bluetooth connection, your computer must have the appropriate Bluetoot h technol ogy equipment and software installed prior to installing Vert u PC Suite.

63 09 ORGANISER Your Vertu phone Organi ser has the following functions: > Alarm clock > Calendar > To - d o l i s t > Notes > Synchronisation ALARM CLOCK You can set your Vertu phone to sound an alarm at a desired time. The a larm will sound even if your Vertu phone is switched off.

71 10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SAFETY INFORMATION T RAFFIC SA FETY Do not use a hand-held telephone while driving a vehicle. If usi ng a hand-held phone park the vehi cle before conversing. Do not place the phone o n the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop.
72 Do not store or carry f lammable liquids, ga ses or explosive materials in the same compartment as the phone, its parts or accessories. For vehicles equipped with an air b ag, remember that an air bag inflate s with great force.
73 CARE AND MAINTE NANCE Your Vertu products have been crafted from some of the finest materials and care should be taken to keep them in g ood condition. CERAMICS AND SAPPHIRE Ceramics and sapphir e are very hard material s but are also brittle and can be scratched by harder materials or objects.
