5 INTR ODUCTION Ov er view Y our new digital video camera is a miniature camcor der that will captur e motion video as well as 2 megapixel still images. Using the 1.5" TFT color image LCD monitor , you can record images and then r eview them in detail.

13 GETTING ST ARTED Y ou can use 2 AA size batteries (Alkaline, Ni-MH), one CR-V3 or an AC power adapter (optional accessory) to power your DV camera. Battery power is convenient for capturing images or video clips while an AC power adapter is useful when transferring images to your computer.
14 Using an A C pow er ada pter (optional accessor y) 1. Connect one end of the AC power adapter to the jack labeled “DC IN”. 2. Connect the other end to an electrical outlet. Note: Make sure to use only the AC power adapter specified for the camera.
15 Inser ting an SD memor y car d (optional accessor y) The camera comes with 64MB of internal memor y , allowing you to recor d video clips and captured images. However , you may expand the memory capacity by using an optional Secure Digital (SD) memory card so you can store mor e images and video clips.
16 Tu r ning on your digital video camera 1. Swing the LCD panel away from the camera body . 2. Press and hold the power/menu button on the top to turn on your camera. Hold the power button for about two seconds. T o tur n off your digital video camera, pr ess again power/menu button.
17 CAPTURING STILL IMAGES Basic settings Digital zoom (Pr eview) Using the digital zoom, the image in the LCD display can be enlarged by pr essing the ( T ) telephoto button so that the subject appears closer or appears further away by pressing the ( W ) wide-angle button.
18 Self-timer Use the self-timer when taking group shots.The self-timer duration is 10 seconds. After the self-timer is set, the shutter automatically releases after 10 seconds. The self-timer LED starts blinking slowly for 7 seconds and then rapidly for the last 3 seconds.
19 flash The flash is designed to function automatically when lighting conditions warrant the use of flash. Y ou can capture an image using a suitable flash mode to your cir cumstances.The flash works only with still images and is disabled when capturing a video.
20 Image resolution and quality Y ou can select resolution and compr ession settings for your still images. Y ou may select still image r esolution of either 1600x1200 and 800x600. Use 1600 x 1200 higher r esolution if you pr efer a larger print. However , this will also pr oduce a larger file size.
21 Number of recor dable images The frame counter indicates the approximate number of images that can be stor ed in the inter nal memory (or SD memory card ) at the current image quality and r esolution settings. The number of recordable images will vary depending on the recor ded subject (scene complexity) and the capacity of the memory card.

23 Vi ewing video c lips To view a recor ded video clip, follow these steps: 1. T ur n on your camera. 2. Pr ess the playback/ pause button. 3. Select the video clip you want to view by using the or buttons. To pause playback at any time, pr ess the playback/ pause button again.
24 PLA YBA CK MODE In the playback mode, you can view , magnify , pr otect, and delete images. Y ou can even run a slide show . Playback mode also provides a thumbnail image display , allowing you quickly search for the image or movie you want. Vi ewing ima ges 1.
25 Zoom playback While reviewing your still-images, you may enlarge (zoom -in) a selected portion of the image. This magnification allows you to view fine details. 1. T ur n on your camera. 2. Pr ess the playback/ pause button. The last image frame appears on the LCD monitor.
26 Displaying thumbnail images This function allows you to view up to nine thumbnail images on the LCD monitor simultaneously so that you can quickly scan for a particular image. 1. T urn on your camera. 2. Press the playback/ pause button. The last image frame appears on the LCD monitor.
27 Slide show display The slide show function enables you to play your images back automatically in sequential order as a slide show . This is a ver y useful and entertaining feature reviewing r ecor ded images and for presentations. 1. T urn on your camera.
28 Deleting video c lips and images Y our still-images and video clips ar e stored in either internal memory , or on an SD memory card. Whenever a memory card is inserted, the camera will automatically use the card, exclusively , in prefer ence to internal memory .
29 Delete all video clips/images at once 1. Pr ess the playback/ pause button to view the recorded video clips/ images. 2. Pr ess the menu button. 3. Select Playback menu by using the or buttons. 4. Select “Delete all” by using the or buttons, and then press the button.
30 Protecting video clips/images Y ou can protect video clips or images fr om accidental erasure by selecting the pr otection function in the Playback menu. T o protect an image or video follow the steps: Protecting one video clip/image 2. T urn on your camera.
31 SY STEM CONNECTIONS Installing the USB Driv er on a W indows PC The USB driver on the CD-ROM is exclusively for Windows 98 Second Edition. Windows 2000, Me, XP computers do not need to install the USB driver. 1. Inser t the pr oduct CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
32 Open the “removable disk” and subsequent folders by double clicking on them. Double click on the folder . Y our images ar e inside these folder(s). Select the images that you want, then choose “Copy” from the “Edit” menu. Open the destination location (folder) and choose “Paste” fr om the “Edit” menu.
33 Installing PhotoVista PhotoVista is an easy-to-use pr ogram that lets you cr eate spectacular 360 0 panoramic images in a snap. When you view these panoramas, you get the experience of being totally immersed in a realistic envir onment.
34 Installing W inD VD Creator SV CD W inDVD Cr eator is an easy-use softwar e to help you to edit recor ded video clips and make your own DVDs. WinDVD Cr eator lets you easily transfer your recor ded videos fr om a camcor der , add picture, music, titles, transitions between scenes, special ef fects or edit the length you prefer .
35 Menu Options R ecor d Menu Y ou can use the Record menu to select istill-mage size(r esolution), image quality or video quality . Y ou can also adjust exposure, white balance or ISO speed.
36 Image size Set the desir ed image size. 1600 x 1200 800 x 600 Image quality Set the still-image quality (compr ession ratio) at which the image is saved. Super fine Fine Normal V ideo quality Set the video quality (compr ession ratio) at which the video clip is saved.
37 Exposure Y our DV camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically . However , if the subject is very dark, or very bright, you may override the DV camera automatic exposur e determination to make the subject brighter or darker . This is called EV compensation.
38 White balance The human eye adapts to changes in light so that white objects still appear white even when the light changes. With DV camera, however, the color of the subject is influenced by the color of the light surr ounding it. This color adjustment is called “white balance adjustment”.
39 ISO Y ou may specify the ISO to be used when an image is taken. A higher ISO sensitivity value increases the camera’ s sensitivity to light. However , higher ISO also intr oduces more noise (speckles) into the image. With a higher sen- sitivity selected, images can be taken with less light.
40 Setup Menu Y ou can select your preferences and DV camera settings in Setup mode. Press the power button and navigate to the option you wish to configur e by using the or buttons. Setup menu items: Format, Beep, Speaker , LCD brightness, Power off, Reset to default, Date type, Date setup, Date imprint, Video out, Light freq.
41 Format This option formats the internal memor y (or SD memor y card) and erases all stor ed images and data. To per for m the format function, first press the button. Then select [No] or [Y es] by using the or buttons, then pr ess OK button to confirm.
42 Speaker V olume Y ou may adjust the volume of the speaker - used when movies are played back. To set the sound level, first press the button. Then increase or decr ease the sound using the or buttons, then pr ess OK button to confirm. The volume level can be adjusted from 0 to 5.
43 Power off If your DV camera is unused for a certain period of time while the camera is powered on, the DV camera will switch to an idle mode, and eventually turn itself off to conserve power .
44 Date type Y ou can select the date type that is imprinted on your image. To set the date type, first press the button. Then select the date t ype you prefer by using the or buttons and then press OK button to confirm.
45 Light freq. Y ou may set the fr equency of the camera sensor to work optimally with local lighting. To set this option, first pr ess the button. Then using the or button to select [50Hz] or [60Hz] and then pr ess OK button to confirm.
46 Playback menu Use the Playback menu to transfer your r ecorded video clips/captur ed images to a memory card or to cr eate an on-camera slide show displaying. Y ou may also use the Playback menu to pr otect or delete all images fr om the camera’ s memory card or an internal memor y .
