Dear Par ent, At VTech ® , we know that every year , childr en ar e asking to play video games at younger and younger ages. At the same time, we understand the hesitation of most parents to expose their childr en to the inappr opriate content of many popular video games.
2 INTRODUCTION I NTRODUCTION The Backyardigans have the whole wide world in their yard to explore! Join them on a Viking adventure, as they brave steamy jungles, stormy seas, and sandy deserts in sear.
3 Quick Play In this mode , yo u ca n ch oos e an y of the 4 adv en tur e locations individually. T o choose a game, use the joystick and press E NTE R . In this play mode, you can play alone, or with a friend. Note : For game details, please see the “ Activities – Learning Adventure” section.
4 FE A TUR ES 2-Player Mode In the Learning Adventure and Learning Zone modes you can play alone, or with a friend. Choose o ne-player or two-player mode in the small selection menu at the bottom of the screen. In Learning Adventur e mode, Player 1 and Player 2 will take turns to play .
5 HE LP Button When you press the HE LP button during a game, you will hear the activity instructions or a hint. EX IT Button When you press the E X IT button, the game will pause.
6 Learning Adventure Adventure 1 - Jungle Island Game Play Vikings Pablo, T yrone, and Uniqua are setting out to discover a land that no one has discover ed yet, but first, they must stop at a nearby jungle island to gather food for their long voyage.
7 Mini Game: Going Fishing Game Play Vikings love to eat fish, so help Viking Pablo catch some for the long voyage ahead! Help the Vikings catch fish that match the size of Pablo’s bucket.
8 And watch out for that whirlpool! T o help the Viking ship escape, press ENTE R over and over to fill the power bar full of energy . Curriculum: Counting, Hand-eye Coordination E asy level : 1 -5 an.
9 Adventure 3 – Sandland Game Play The Vikings land on an island that nobody has discovered yet and decide to name it Sandland. T hey want to explore the new land, but a sudden sandstorm stops them. It seems that strange statues are causing the sandstorm.
10 AC TIVITIES Adventure 4 – Secret T emple Game Play Deep inside Sandland, the Vikings find a secret temple. T hey want to explore the temple and search for Viking plunder, but there are many locked doors and other challenges. Key Puzzle : Help Viking Uniqua find the key that matches the shape of the keyhole.
11 Controls Walk left / move arr ow left Walk right / move arr ow right Move arrow down Move arrow up ENTE R Button Jump / use skill (Easy level), Enter choice (Difficult level) Color buttons Use skill Learning Z one Zone 1: Sand Slide Race Game Play The Vikings are racing down the sand slide to reach the Secret T emple of Sandland.
1 2 Zone 2: Rain Dance Game Play T o make it rain in Sandland, the Vikings have to do the rain dance shown on a mysterious stone tablet. Choose a Viking to play with. Player 1 is on the left side; Player 2 is on the right side. Th e middle Viking is a “lead er , ” who will show you how to do the dan ce.
13 CAR E & MAI NTE NANCE 1. Keep your V .Smile™ clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth. Never use solvents or abrasives. 2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away fr om direct sour ces of heat. 3. Remove the batteries when not using it for an extended period of time.
